There's no way to say for sure he'd be great, look at Shump he's been terrible. Plus if he's playing only 5 minutes you're only getting him there to get him on the floor and at this point that'd be detrimental to the team. And Kobe and Lebron never had to deal with a torn ACL, so comparing Rose to them is stupid. As a Bulls fan I'd much rather have him take his time and take the season off if it means that he gets the extra time to gain confidence in his knee so he doesn't try to "protect" it, land awkwardly, and injure something else. It's about the next 10 years, not this 1 playoffs. Thanks for the explanation, makes sense I suppose. But will Kobe sit out the entire next season or will he play as soon as he's medically cleared? From the looks of it Kobe will try to recover and play by the start of next season. But with your explanation I can see why Rose isn't playing and I think it's pretty wise somewhat. I'm impressed that he hasn't been pressured by fans into playing thus far. I just feel that if he is an intense competitor as people make him out to be, he wouldn't be sitting on the sidelines watching his team in the playoffs. Jamal Crawford ooowning. edit: I don't dislike Rose or anything, just questioning his drive and competitive spirit. He still has a long career ahead of him and I can understand what he means by not being ready to play. Kobe's "competitive drive" also caused him to miss the playoffs by continuing to play despite injuring his leg/knee twice in THE SAME GAME before injuring his leg a third time. In this case I'd say Kobe's competitiveness was more detrimental than helpful. That's pretty results oriented. You might say that Derrick Rose's caution caused him to miss an entire season. Maybe Kobe didn't have to miss the playoffs (you'll never be able to prove it, either way,) but maybe Derrick Rose didn't have to miss the season. You'll never really know. And the majority of things I've read have said that an Achilles tear is not the result of fatigue or previous injury. I'm not defending Kobe or blaming Rose - but almost all players in the NBA play injured. When you watched Tim Duncan limp around in 2008-2011, it was brutal but no one said he hurt his team. I think when they say "previous injury" they don't mean "currently limping due to knee and foot injuries sustained less than 10 minutes ago yet still trying to play professional basketball", they mean previous injury. I think it would be hard to argue that chances of sustaining an injury aren't affected at all after JUST sustaining injuries. It's similar to the thing I was talking about with DRose- if you hurt your foot and knee you're going to limp/move differently to put less stress on those body parts, which put more on others- in this case, his achilles. He didn't suffer an injury during the Warrior's games did he? I never saw him leave the game. He hurt his leg twice and refused to come out of the game. I'll download the game but I saw it live and don't remember anything like "he had to come out of the game." He was noticably limping and the casters specifically mentioned he hurt himself twice previously before tearing his achilles. Haven't downloaded the game, but are you insinuating that he tore his Achilles Tendon because he was limping and hurt? Yes. He was visibly injured before his final injury.

Yeah but that's not a logical conclusion right? Players are always injured and they run the floor hard, they leap and fall and get hit really hard. But we see maybe 2 tendon tears a season? So you're drawing a conclusion off a single data point. It might feel like it makes sense but I doubt it's true.

I always find it odd when people say that since all the top tier NBA superstars are half court monsters.

His life bar has gotten that low?
I don't think you can actually blow up tanks by hitting them with a sword enough times.
