Also,

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2012/03/how-the-f1-teams-will-approach-the-malaysian-grand-prix/

Aerodynamic setup – Medium/high downforce. Top speed 312km/h (with Drag Reduction System on rear wing) – 300km/h without.

Full throttle – 70% of the lap. Total fuel needed for race distance: 153 kilos.

Time spent braking: 15% of the lap. 8 braking zones. Brake wear: Medium.

Loss time for a Pit stop = 16.5 seconds
Total time needed for pit stop: 22.5 seconds.

The pit lane speed limit in Sepang is 100km/h, which means faster pit stops than Melbourne.

Fuel effect (cost in lap time per 10kg of fuel carried): 0.36 seconds (average/high)

And there should be lots of overtaking not only at T15, even if its dry.

Oh and this http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/race-strategy-calculator/
is fun

I just hope Charlie lets them race instead of these bullshit SC starts we seem to always have now when it rains in the slightest.

well, it will make overtaking bit harder but there were overtakes before DRS and KERS in F1
also this track is much more forgiving if one failed to overtake than Oz. Higher tyre dagradation and less rear grip (no EBD)
will result in more driver errors - overtaking possibilities gonna be awesome i hope

F1 Press conference pre Sepang race;
I'll focus on Ferrari's Alonso.

Fernando Alonso has warned that Ferrari won't be able to deliver a 'miracle' cure to fix the F2012's flaws and that their form could deteriorate further in Malaysia this weekend.
Asked whether the characteristics of the high-speed Sepang circuit might signal a change in Ferrari's level of competiveness, Alonso's answer was bleak and brutally honest:
"Hopefully yes but I don't think so, to be honest. We have been testing at different circuits: Jerez, Barcelona and then in Australia with more or less the same car with the same problems on it. We don't expect any big miracles from Australia to Malaysia because the cars are identical.
"In Australia, no one thought that we could finish fifth. There were a lot of people quicker than us. In the race, there were some incidents that helped us finish fifth. Here, with a normal race, maybe we will finish further behind, maybe with a more crazy race or rain or something, we can finish in front, so we have to play before we see what we can do."
"I think at every race we will try to make improvements as we did over the last few years. New parts will slowly come at every race and hopefully they work, but there's not one magic race or one magic moment when we think things can change. I think we will work day and night and as I said before; the team is very focused on that and I see great reaction from everybody, so I expect a strong Ferrari soon.
"We need to stay focused and work more than the others knowing that we are a little bit behind now. But the championship is long. We stay calm, we stay focused, because we see a lot of determination in the team. We see the team with a very good atmosphere, (we) trust each other in the team, we are very united, so the time will come to us very soon.
"We just need to wait and see but I have 100 per cent trust in the team."

Was an extremely interesting conference, not just because of his answers but of his body language.
http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/12474/7617126/Alonso-Don-t-expect-Ferrari-miracles

Just have a look at some of his pictures, doesn't look a happy Alonso. But like i said to my dad when watching the race, you have to take your hat off to him, he is an excellent driver all be it his attitude can be rather annoying.

although Alonso is probably most complete driver on the grid if not the best, i dont really like him. Theres is always shit going on wherever he goes. Either it was renault (with trulli), mclaren (with Hamilton), renault (piquet jr), ferrari (he was mad whenever Felippe was in front of him, now its rare so his calm...). He is a great racer with an ass personality unfortunately.

On the other hand he switched renault (lotus now) with ferrari to fight for WDC, and its 3rd year he cant compete at the top with this car. bit frustrating

It's funny how everyone was exited for the duck nose on every formulaone, and in the end, the best car is the one without it.

Very hyped for this weekend, I'm hoping for a stronger Mercedes going on Sunday, and I wouldn't mind at all another Button win.

Hoping Perez has another good performance so they can push Masa out of Ferrari and then can have 2 talented racing drivers in Ferrari instead of just Alonso!

Mercedes definitely looking good with their DRS/F-duct thingy majingy. Let's hope they can get a decent race setup and that they have the reliability to see Michael through to the end.

Also looking forward to seeing Kimi start from a better grid spot as long as they don't try to get too damn greedy in Qualifying. Saving a set of tyres isn't worth starting 18th - Fact.

Hoping for 8 cars that can challenge for the win, that would be epic!!

well its just practice but they still have some work to do with race setup since their longer stints does not look good compared to Kimi, Button or Red Bull guys. 1 sec slower

Kimi has just been given a 5 place Grid penalty for Malaysian Grand Prix;

Kimi Raikkonen has been hit with a five-place grid penalty for Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix.

The punishment was dished out after Lotus had to replace the gearbox in his car, with regulations stating a driver should use the same one for five successive races.

A team member tweeted on Friday: "A bit more work for Kimi's crew this evening. An issue with Kimi's gearbox so we're changing it now."

yeah, sigh...

Its probably best for him to qualify 6, and start on fresh set of primes from 11. If its dry off course.
Anyway, would love to have more sleep today between MLG and the qualies :/

McLaren pull off the 1-2 start again with a nice lap from Button in the end. It seems that the McClarens quite a marginal edge over the other teams at the moment.

McLaren Mercedes Lotus Red Bull all within 2 tenths

Good news for Caterham: Only 0.3 of a second away from Vergne.
Bad news for Caterham: Still 1.3 seconds away from Sauber and Q2.

McLaren looks like the fastest car indeed at the moment. At least over one lap.
I feel Lotus cars could have done better in q3 since kimis q2 time was crazy, indicating the car was capable of more
