I think the checkpoints look a bit like this: + Show Spoiler +2 in Mud Flats. 4 before Ledge. 9 before Brutus. 11 by the end of Cove. 12 before Merveil 15 before Sins 1 Farm as little as possible as long as you don't get an XP penalty. Kill rare/blue packs, and juicy packs and you'll usually be fine. Then it's all about knowing dungeon layouts, tricks for your particular class, and what/when to craft. Note: I suck at 2h races and haven't done regular races in a long time, but the idea stays the same. Its not really a checkpoint but more like a minimum.
3 and 50% by ledge. (Usually get there between 3 and 50% and 4 and 50% depending on how trolly Submerged has been.) I like to be 8 by brutus, but if you feel like you can take him you can do it at 7. (happens very rarely, but worth noting.) 11 by merveil so you can use sapphires. (I never actually hit the min though. Usually 12-13.) 15 before sins. (so you dont get massive xp penalties.)

Most skip as much as possible in prisoners as well, I personally think it's pretty decent farming zone as long as you have something to help you run past the big bad flame dog. (quicksilver, leap slam, movespeed boots, harrier + take off armor as scion) You don't actually need that much to kill merveil with no mods. Usually want 1 item with cold res (usually sapphire ring), but if you have some from gear + at least as scion you get 10 allres by the time you're there depending on spec then you can kill her with 2x iron ring + rustic as long as you tp out to heal 1-3 times depending on freeze rng/medium pots.
For 1 hour you always end up in sins1, except maybe party races were you can go church in the end I think. For 90 min you should usually end up in church near the end.
For longer races, I've actually only started doing this recently, but get the blackwood wp before you go into sins, and as a result you will be much stronger when you enter, which will make the whole sins2 and especially 3 much smoother.
For 90 min races with no mods your goal is generally sarns unless you're Witch, or have really terrible rng/run. I think even the 105 min signature witch record was done by farming Western Forest.
Anything longer (except easy mods 3hour party) is farming docks. Remember in these kind of races to pick up as many portals as possible, that way you can play greedy in docks and only clear 1 direction and don't have to run back to fullclear. If you run out, you usually sell everything and buy more (3 id scrolls per port) or simply log out every reset. The log out method kind of sucks though if you have an aura.

Walked up to Piety, a few seconds later, I was dead. Never saw it coming. Had killed Piety a few times already. Is this desync?

Piety lightning can instagib you even at 79% resist and 3.5k health if you're unlucky with the damage rolls. Standing next to her isn't a good idea.

I guess that is possible. I wasn't really standing next to her.
Going to start leveling again later today.
Not exactly sure what to play though.

Lvl 82 Nemesis Shockwave Rauder got put into Standard because I lost Internet connection and I play solo
guess the rare mob I was dealing with had enough burst before GGG server considered me DCed
got a Lvl 60 Double Strike / ST Duelist though so I'll continue my Nemesis play there
should be far far better than playing a Shockwave character in Nemesis, but I enjoyed playing with Shockwave and didn't mine dealing with its deficiencies (low DPS 3.7K totems & desync)

Yeah, I've got 5K hp on my Templar and I occasionally RIP'd to Piety when the rolls are really bad. Now I just bring a Topaz and pop it when the lightning starts, haven't had a problem since.
Trying to put together a culler, any good builds? Should I stick with the old dual sporker or is there something better out there? Don't really care what league its on either, I've got a decent amount of $$$ stashed on everything except HC.

I guess with OP Throw you can do that, but duelists need lvl 10 anyway for leap slam, which lets you jump down the ledges/skip firedog in prisoner's gate and save tons of time. Also, at lvl 9 you get the juicy dex + attack speed node for some much needed double strike DPS. Plus, you need lvl 8 for Longsword, 9 for axe, and 9 for strapped leather. Anyway, iirc, it's actually hard not to have lvl 9 by then.
But either way, anyone remotely new will have a hard time being "only" 12 by Merveil.

anyone know how Corrupting Blood damage is calculated?
20 stacks against a Blackguard Mage and my HP regen is enough to keep even
20 stacks against a Fire Golem and my HP is getting burned through in a few seconds
is it based off of mob HP?

The mobs attack damage. That is why mages don't hurt at all.

The same holds true for things like Volatile mobs.

I stopped playing like 6 month ago after dying to vaal on last difficulty. Typed the command to resync after dead, saw my body ported through half the room standing right next to him, should have become suspicous once he rose his melee arm when I thought I was standing at the other side of the room. Maybe it is teim to give this game another shot.

I think I have a new hobby: sniping item with high value at a very low price on xyz. And I'm getting better at it too.
Recently, the main focus is on IIR stuff. You see, dps, arm, es, ev, +life, res, it's very intuitive. Ppl usually know that their item worth a lot if it has a combination of these in high roll. On the other hand, not many are familiar with MF.
I have sniped a 54 IIR amu for 2c and a 9 + 37 gold ring for 4alc ( which ofc can be blessed to 50+ IIR) so far. The amu can be resell for at least 1ex and the ring should be at least 15c, but I'm using them. A few more of these trade and I'm gonna be rich in no time muhaha
I'm a terrible person

Could be. On the other hand you might just be getting some profit out of all the hours spent watching the economy (trade chat). I've played a decent amount so far and still I'm mostly clueless when it comes to pricing items.

All these deaths stories scare me a bit :O
Im running piety with 4k hp and 75 lightning res and never got close to dieing ( started at 70 now im 83 ) so you must be REALLY unlucky to get instagibbed. My guess would be lag/desync while standing in her lightning storm but /oos macro solves that problem for me I know for many ppl including me desync was the number one problem with this game, i probably would not be playing poe if i didnt find how to setup the macro. After some time using it you even start to recognize situtation where desync will occur and prevent them leading to even less desync. Disconnects are a different thing tho, nothing you can do if your provider/pc sucks :/

A few more of these trade and I'm gonna be rich in no time muhaha I'm a terrible person I've been doing this a lot recently. Weapons (especially physical ones) are usually very easy to price within one or two searches on poe.xyz.is then you just need to find one that you can buy for cheap enough. Especially more in regards to wands and daggers, people don't understand just how rare (and valueable) good rolls are on them since they can roll like 3 different ways. I think people assume wands are just for spellcasting. I've been researching jewelery a bit and I might start doing what you're doing soon too. lol. So far I've gotten a 2H 410 dps for 4 chaos that I think I can sell for 2-3 ex. a wand that I payed 6 chaos for that I think I can get 2-5 ex for. another wand for a few chaos that I think I can get 1-2 ex for. Also sold a ring I payed 1 ex for, for 2 ex the other day.
This is why I always research my big ticket items before I sell them. lol

Still desync issues I see lol. Never had a HC death due to any server problems while playing, but boy o boy did I have some close ones :p

Most of the times you die if you feel too save and don't play 100% carefully because of that. Happens if you have high life pool and high defenses and nothing does shit to you and then some wackamole combo insta-gimps you in 1 second.^^ Or desync, but often times that seem to be an excuse. I never died to desync and while I certainly desync quite often I learned how to deal with it. I think you can avoid 99% of desync-death's by playing accordingly.
