So, I just downloaded the game, and I'm not really sure what I should do first, hope you guys willl be able to enlighten me a bit, since I didnt play much Diablo2/3 before.
-What exactly are those league I can choose at the start? Are they just some kind of increased difficulty mode or is there something more to them? -Should I start in one of them or should I start with a standard/softcore playthrough first to get a hang for the game?
-Regarding builds, should I stick to some kind of standard or can I make my own and not end up with a completely worthless character? When looking a bit at streams every single one of them seems to play some kind of spectral throw build :<

So I am not 100% sure on this, but I think the different targets I hit with Melee Splash count for the Cast on Crit Gem, so when I crit 3 Targets instead of 1 with my Frenzy, the chance of my Cast on Crit Trigger is 3 times as high. Tried it with Multistrike before, but I think only the initial hit counts, so the extra attacks from multistrike do nothing for my build.

Hardcore and Nemesis leagues are "Hardcore", in that if you die, your char gets moved out of that league and into Standard. Therefore, you won't lose the progress on that char, but won't be able to play in the HC leagues with that character anymore.
Standard and Hardcore are the "permanent" leagues which have been around for nearly a year now. Domination and Nemesis are new leagues with added mechanics; this adds some difficulty, but makes the game more fun and interesting for sure. Domination is a "Softcore" league; if you die here, you will still be in Domination, while if you play Nemesis, deaths will send you to Standard. These 2 new leagues were just released, so there are a lot of people playing still in the low levels and low-mid level gear should not be too hard to find. The majority of the TL guild is also within these two leagues. You should probably start in Domination or Nemesis for these reasons. If you'd like a challenge, Nemesis can be a lot of fun, but Domination might be better if you want to learn the ropes first.
Your first character will probably suck; the game is not easy and there are a lot of small and big things to learn over time. A lot of the fun in the game is building new chars and perfecting builds, so don't get discouraged; borking one char a bit means your next one will be much better. I can point you to some good beginner builds if you let me know if you would rather play a Melee char, Ranger type, or spell caster; these builds should help you get going. Also, there's some good information in this thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/1p20l6/new_to_path_of_exile_or_have_no_idea_what_it_is/

Do you get 3 Frenzy charges from one Multistrike hit? I feel like Multistrike would be more suitable if it did work with cast on crit.
seems like your build would be really great for party play; conduit, shocks, and freezing everywhere. I'd love to see it in action.

Only the first hit of Multistrike gives me a Frenzy Charge thats the reason I swapped it out, since it doesnt give me any advantage at all. Another idea would be using GMP Frenzy with a wand instead of using a dagger, but i would lose a bunch of critchance to trigger the discharges
|
I think you need to conclusively figure out if melee splash triggers Cast on Crit; if it does, then when you melee splash a mob, you'd hit anywhere from 3-8 mobs, which is a respectable amount of hits. If it doesn't then GMP Frenzy with a wand would be way more hits, and therefore more crits overall. Wands would also be safer cus you wouldn't have to be as close.
Though whirling blading in and whacking the monsters in melee sounds pretty manly.

Pretty sure that if you die in domination your character stays in domination. It only gets moved after the league is complete ie after 4 months. Spot on for nemesis tho.

Hi, just found out that there is a PoE section on TL, cool ^^ Is there by any chance a Guild you guys host where one could join? (playing Nemesis but just ripped in Merc TT, rerolling EK scion)

Thanks for the explanations on the leagues !
And yeah, good thing for the builds. Experimenting with builds and the huge number of possibilities was kinda the thing that spiked my interest in the game so I was a bit afraid of being forced to go into a specific optimal build after seeing every single streamer using a spectral throw build :<

Why don't you join the TL Guild then? :O

Where is the TL guild. Would love to join.

I have a few questions. I played the beta in spring. I liked many game concepts and the game's complexity. However, there were a few issues which killed the fun for me:
- Many dull or monotonous areas without any visual highlights, generally a bleak, grey-ish graphics style. - A hard to read minimap made of a wireframe and huge dungeons, so I got lost easily. - The worst story presentation I've ever seen in a video game. I never knew or cared what I was actually doing. - Orbs instead of an actual currency, resulting in difficulty of estimating an item's value and lots of inventory clutter.
Are these points still part of the game or has it changed a lot since I played?

are guilds league specific? I have some map quality/level hardcore characters but I think hardcore league is dead? Sucks because I'm pretty rich in hardcore. ~_~
I think Nemesis is the new 'hardcore' league, right?

Just died in Nemesis. Empty stash now, damn!

Are these points still part of the game or has it changed a lot since I played? -The art direction hasn't seriously changed. It is meant to invoke a bleak atmosphere. -The minimap hasn't changed. -The story presentation has been SIGNIFICANTLY developed. -The currency system (One of the best designed elements of the game and a key draw) remains in place.

Nemesis is the most active hardcore yes but players will trickle back into regular hardcore as they die on nemesis and want to play their high-level hardcore characters or whatever.

It's an indie, F2P game, so the visuals and story presentation are going to be on that level. But, they've vastly improved a lot the visuals of many zones. Fetid pool for example was very ugly initially, but it's got dark lightning and some smoke effect that makes it pretty cool now.
Minimap/map are functional, so getting lost is your fault and not the game's. The currency is by design and will never change.

The TL guild is not league specific. You will probably have a hard time finding people to play old leagues with.
Yes, Nemesis is the new hardcore league.
