Just in case anyone's interested, I just made a Marauder guide and posted it under blogs. He uses endurance charges and life gain on hit with very fast attack speed. It's a pretty fun build - except for Lightning Thorns, which consistently ruins my day.

This map was so sketchy lol. 6.1k hp and white monkeys took off 1/4 of my hp if I didn't granite. Got a cells (73) and coves (70) so it was worth it. Never would have been able to do it without blinding totem + kiting. I am explosive arrow.

So I'm finally able to stay in maps it seems. Been going for two days and I'm still up a few. However I still haven't really found any currency or anything worth selling which is the main reason I'm doing them atm. So I figured, maybe it would be worth it to sell some of the maps I find, since that's pretty much currency that people want, too.

So my question is, how much is the ballpark worth of say, lvl 68, 69 and 70 maps? Then I would only do the 66s and 67s myself.

You probably want to do 68 maps because you have a much higher chance of getting kaom's to drop.

If the idea of those skills fails, just switch to EK. Really good skill once its leveled. Furthermore I'd pick up the duelist 1percent regen +12 +8 instead of the 30 str and 3x8 nodes.

Furthermore, I assume you will have to use bloodmagic on your mainskill and you run 4 auras on your mana. If that is the case switch to marauder. You save 2 nodes that are not needed for your build.

I only intend to run Purity (mainly for the + max resists as I can get a ton of resists from passives, so I would like to start using it towards the end of Merciless), Determination (massive armor bonus) and Grace (but I can easily cast it with BM by the time I get IR).

Marauder would not really work due to gem quest rewards. Molten Shell (MS from now on) has HUGE standalone damage. I want to add Increased Burning, Chance to Ignite and Elemental Proliferation for massive AoE damage. Mana cost should not be an issue as I do not expect to chain-cast it (same reason I believe cast speed will not be required). Last 2 links are open, can consider Concentrated Effect (especially for single targets), Life Leech or Fire Penetration (for those really special snowflakes like hexproof + resist + resist aura).

Elemental Reflect can be countered by Ruby Flasks or EK on a secondary weapon set.

The essence of the build is to just pop MS and run around like a headless chicken, recasting MS (and Shock Nova due to EE reasons) when it explodes. Being really tanky will be essential. Stone of Lazhwar for the spell block chance would also be of big benefit.

A marauder can get all the gems you would ever need. So many quest rewards with BM or reduced mana. Verry easy to trade for anything in the race.

You can also mule some characters to act2 normal to get the other gems you might want. Just make 4 other accounts and run 5 clients. You can safely get lvl1s to halfway act2 for gems

Ah, alright. I actually dreamt that I found a kaom's tonight before I read this. :p I'll probably sell the 69-70s then. How much do they go for? Seems 66 is 1 chisel, 67 is 2, 68 is 4. Does it keep doubling?

Doing 68s so you can get kaoms from white mobs is a waste of effort. You might do 68s because they're easy enough that you think it's profitable to get the higher maps, but doing them for kaoms is not worthwhile. Farming items from maps with no quantity/rarity bonuses is a waste of time.

Shock nova is pretty bad for spreading EE, because of how its AoE works (damage only a ring, not the whole area)
Ice nova would be better, but no shock stacks. On totem it's really good at procing EE everywhere though. I'd say to forget about shock and go for that.
To keep the shock stacking, you could try a totem with spark or chain lightning.

You obviously want MS to proc as much as possible, so you want as much mitigation as possible. You have access to the 3 endurance charge that do just that on your tree, and you'll have time to cast enduring cry as you don't really fight.

That's the build I did with molten shell in mind. Less life than yours, but much more mitigation through endurance charges and increased evasion/armor nodes. Starts as marauder though.

Ah, so where do you farm currency? Grind HC and sell lowbie rares instead?

Also, been trying to find out exactly what happens when you increase quality of a map, but having trouble. Whats the diff between 0 and 5% quality?

i just came back to poe after a long break (map rng made me quit :D) and am back at level 77 with my new la ranger (sc). i am currently building my map pool and looking for other (good) people to do maps with, so shoot me a pm or contact me ingame @Songspire if you are up for it.

@shabby: each % qual increases global item quantity by 1% - which is quite important since this also affects new map drops.

I made almost all my money from merchanting when I was still active. You can farm maps for profit, you just need the gear to make it worth your time. Map drops are not increased by IIQ/IIR so they are probably the best thing to farm if you don't have gear. Not sure how big the market is for them though as I haven't played in a few weeks now.

Superior maps get an additional quantity roll (1:1); people don't normally chisel low level maps though. Once you're at the point where you're alching maps you want to chisel them as well is a good starting point. The quantity rolls on the map itself do affect map drops so it is important to run higher quantity maps if you want to maintain a supply of maps.

You probably want to do 68 maps because you have a much higher chance of getting kaom's to drop.


Ah, alright. I actually dreamt that I found a kaom's tonight before I read this. :p I'll probably sell the 69-70s then. How much do they go for? Seems 66 is 1 chisel, 67 is 2, 68 is 4. Does it keep doubling?


Doing 68s so you can get kaoms from white mobs is a waste of effort. You might do 68s because they're easy enough that you think it's profitable to get the higher maps, but doing them for kaoms is not worthwhile. Farming items from maps with no quantity/rarity bonuses is a waste of time.


Ah, so where do you farm currency? Grind HC and sell lowbie rares instead?

Also, been trying to find out exactly what happens when you increase quality of a map, but having trouble. Whats the diff between 0 and 5% quality?


% quality is just like item quantity on gear. However, item quantity on gear does not increase map drops while quantity on maps does increase map drops. Maps past level 70 are really hard to find. This is because the game first decides that a map drops, then it rolls between 66 and the max. If players want to keep mapping they need to max out their quantity so that they get many maps.

Whats the difference between % increased maximum life and +xx maximum life?
Im wondering whats better, 16% increased maximum life or 30 strenght and +30 maximum life?
