Where you can normally choose between "Hardcore" and "Default" a new option turns up.
You choose the new option, a class and a charater name and when you start the character you will be in the race-league.
You cannot move before the league starts, but you can accidentally use all your flask charges to put yourself at a major disadvantage (some people do it)! You can also log out and log in again to have your character stand up. He is still unresponsive, but you have saved the ~10 seconds it usually takes for him ingame! As soon as the countdown hits 0, your character becomes responsive and you can begin teh race!

would say what brutus 25 min to be on par 30 if you get really bad map rng someone is going to get lucky and get the unique bow, honestly I have found in races that + melee, bow w/e gem to be the most helpful if you can kite and dot like a poison arrow build with move speed and 2x quicksilver you can blaze act 1 and 2 but that is drop dependant

Thanks for the tips guys. I've yet to do a race, I guess because I think I have absolutely no chance. I've only even made 1 character so far so I barely even remember what the beginning was like (on normal difficulty) and it took me forever to get to level 20 and 30, while it seems like the 'pros' get there lickity split like it's nothing.
|
honestly you can be over 30 and into cruel act 1 in under 4 hours but closer to 4 than 3:30 if you get really really lucky it seems
|
Today I found out Perpetus hits hard. Like oneshot hard. Watch out in start of act 3 :p

Here's some things I've gathered:
A) You skip a lot of zones so that you can exp on mobs several levels higher (make better use of your time) B) Typically focus on one strong AOE skill that can clear shit quickly C) Spend your time in zones with big clusters of not-too-dangerous mobs (Ledge, Fellshrine, Western Forest). If they happen to be linear as well (no backtracking) then that's all the better. You skip a lot of stragglers along the way.

How are people getting hacked??
|
Same way people always get hacked.
they download 'cheats' they click stupid links they have the same pw for everything they have keyloggers on their system they join shady 'community' forums and use the same pw
There is nothing inherently broken in PoE that will make you get hacked. It's 100% user being careless, stupid or just unlucky.
|
All the above is true, usually.
But if you watched kripp's stream yesterday and paid a little attention you could figure it out and im a little sad that GGG is handling it the way they are :/

I got on last night and had been hacked :/ First game I've ever played in my life where I got hacked. It seems they have little to no safeguards set up to protect against account probing. I'm pretty sure I know how I was hacked, though. Since there are no safeguards, I was just brute-forced. I didn't think I'd be playing much/trust the game yet, so I put on a crappy password that was too easy to crack and lost all my orbs. That was my stupidity. I was hardly rich, though.
This is the email I got from a tech who responded in 59 minutes! I was quite surprised by the fast response.
"I'm really sorry, but we're not able to recover any items stolen by other players. Chris wrote up a long post about this which explains common ways players have items stolen, how they can keep safe and what we're going to do to make it safer for them. It also explains why we have a policy of no item restoration. I recommend checking it out: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/115464/
We are currently working on a system where accounts become locked if people log in to them from a different location. You will be able to unlock the account by typing in a code that is emailed to you. This system should be deployed by the end of February."
So, ya, a week too late for me, since I'm sure they have a long list of local IP's that have logged in to my account and 1 outlier from some other state or perhaps across the world that jacked all my orbs. I have to take a break now. Can't play that game for a couple days, sadface

The fact that they let you have so many login attempts in quick succession is broken, though. I got hacked through my own fault, but they aren't completely out of blame, either.

Just because we could have prevented it on our end does not mean that they shouldn't reasonably be expected to work on this.
That said, not too surprised that an indie company in open beta for a f2p game doesn't have a sophisticated system set up yet. At least there isn't evidence (yet) of a breach on their end. I imagine there are loads of issues they're still trying to keep up with due to the recent switch to open beta, probably a big headache to have to consider this too...

How do they get your email? Do they just pick random emails to brute force and hope they have a PoE account?

Phishing can get pretty clever, by the way. There's plenty of awful/blatant scams (you've won $1000). It's pretty obvious that someone isn't going to give away something for free, so those are fairly easy to spot.
There's a few out there that can catch you if you're not aware of them. This one time I received an email, apparently from Amazon.com, which appeared to be an order confirmation for some expensive necklace or something which I of course had no memory of buying. Let me just say that it was a pretty good imitation of the typical email Amazon sends. My first worry was that my account had been compromised, so that I might have missed that the email itself was intended to get the info for my account. Gmail had flagged the email in my spam box, so I checked the plausible-looking link and found that it did not lead where it claimed.
However, I idly wonder if I would have clicked through in confusion/worry if Gmail had not alerted me... I'd like to think I would have checked the url/verified that it was a secure connection straight to Amazon.com, but there's a nagging doubt.
It could be that this sort of phishing is common in D3/WoW/etc., but it was the first time I'd encountered it directly...

What I dislike so far : - Inventory too small come on ! - Some ennemies are to click on, sometimes I just run around without being able to hit, especially small ennemies. But maybe it's because I'm bad That's all, overall the game is very good, skill system is awesome too bad we can't refund points easily !

Could you tell me how I was careless? Any tips appreciated, since none of the points are true for me(afaik) and I still got hacked
Edit: also first time ever I was hacked

1. A dev has posted on that before
Right now the inventory space is working as intended. If it were made any larger, then there would be more magic items and rares to sell, increasing the number of orbs of alteration you'd get, or increasing the number of rares on the trade market. This would create problems with the way the economy is designed.
2. Sometimes targeting is hard so it's not you ^^
|
Targeting for melee characters is such a pain... that's half the reason why I've only been putting serious effort into my witch/bowranger (other half is these rumors of Melee sucking endgame).
I also think that there's some monsters that the game considers 'short' (e.g. the weird spitter crabs) - if you don't mouse over them directly your ranged attacks will fly right over them. Might be making that up, but it sure feels like that's how it works.

guys i'm joining the race tomorrow. it's my first time. do you have any tips so i can level up fast. i want to at least get some reward points. thanks

They got your login credentials from somewhere. Even if they're brute forcing passwords they still need to get your email address.

Practice. Start a new character and do the run a few times so you know what you're doing.

If you shift click behind them then they're easier to hit. Their hitboxes leave something to be desired definitely.
