Just hit act 2 cruel with my LA ranger, trying to decide when i should swap out my death's harp for something else, the 2 arrows are just so nice Act 3 is making the 3 and 4 hour races very brutal! So many players are dieing left and right there. The few getting to crual act 1 can cruise it, but getting there seems very difficult in a 4 hour race (3 hour races it is likely impossible.). The docks farming is not as dangerous as progressing and I suspect that it will be the most effective way to deal with 4 hour races.
I suspect the racers will improve their chance to survive in act 3 considerably over the next period, but I must say that act 3 seems to be so dangerous that the short duration races where people get there has become a lot more fun to follow!

Decided to run some maps solo (74 witch with around 2k ES and 1 hp).
I had just dinged 74 so wasn't too concerned about dieing, but I had never done maps solo. Did about 7 level 66-68 maps in a row solo, ended up with no leveling progress but had a ton of fun and got a lot of loot. Best thing I found was a Rathpith Titanium GLobe Spirit Shield with 3 link blue (someone offer 4 ex already).
I just want to mention how amazingly brilliant the end game in this game is. Random maps, that im using currency (orbs) on to make stronger. WIthin these higher Ilvl maps you get even higher level ones. The cycle goes on and its nearly limitless variety to such a fun end game... (Can't even compare it to monster power or whatever shit other games have).
Might use the spirit shield... it gives me up to 2500 ES from 2100. And it says 40 percent block applied to spells, gota figure out how that works now lol.

Ya I died to stupidity anyways, I had taken iron reflexes and point blank with my Ranger so I could facetank and kill faster, had found a good elemental bow for level 20, ran into broken bridge and took 5 explosive arrows from 'deadly sniper' whatever in the face, took me to 15% then the 2nd round finished me.
Had done the rest of the stuff, was just getting the last waypoint before doing bandits -> Vaal. Next time i think ill go for the %life nodes -> reflexes instead of getting point blank though haha.
I watched nugiyen on my 2nd monitor as he progressed, gave me some ideas...
As for the mass deaths in act 3, ya for sure, watched nugi get away with sub 5% life more than once in the act, got fairly lucky to not die.
The docks guy well, he had 4 uniques including a silverbranch, and he probably woulda lost if the guy in first didn't die in lunaris level 3 late in the race. Although safer, some others died from multi proj dogs there as well

The damage is pitiful, the range is not enough, the cast speed is dangerously low, mana cost is high, but it is somewhat viable, due solely to the strength of the decoy totem and high life. As long as you stay ahead of the curve (i.e. your ice nova deals enough damage to interrupt targets), it is stupidly easy. But A3 was hard because you don't have your good support gems yet, lots of elemental resist around, and smaller packs of harder monsters. Freezing Pulse is simply in another league. Shotgunning on an AoE spell with fast cast and low cost is stupidly effective. You setup one spell and you have AoE, Crowd Control, Single Target and sustainability. Is there somewhere I can farm this stuff or would I have to buy it if I want anything better? use orbs Don't. Trading is a lot more effective. Keep your orbs for high level items. I agree on the item drought in Cruel. It's always been this way. You'd get ok gear in normal, then very few upgrades in cruel/ruthless. I remember one ranger using the same bow to kill normal, cruel and Ruthless Vaal in CB. You either have to play in a party that shares loot, so everyone gets a lot of upgrades, or when you hit a wall, you roll a new character that levels fast with your twink gear, and will eventually find upgrades for your main character (mostly rings/belts/amulets). alterations aren't worth anything, so you can just alteration a few decent whites in hopes of getting a good mod
edit: whops you're right i meant augmentation lol
|
Alterations trade for fusing/alchs at about 8:1. I think you mean transmute/augmentation =) But blue items really don't cut it for a weapon, as you need at least two prefixes. It's simpler to grab a new bow with decent sockets for ~1 chaos around level 40, and hope you can use it until you start crafting thickets.
On another note, anyone has any idea what these gems are worth? I don't want to give up on my Ice Nova Templar just yet, and this is the next step: Added Chaos Damage, Concentrated Effect, Quality Ice Nova My guess is 2 chaos, gcp, gcp for ~10%.
Seems awfully expensive for a skill that would be weaker than Freezing Pulse + Faster + LMP. Just looked at the numbers, and FP is ~90% stronger than Ice Nova even before shotgunning. ~44% faster cast speed, 20% more crits, ~40% more base damage, more range, ~45% lower cost.
So sad right now =(

I really do hope they buff a lot of the spells, right now most just suck compared to others.

Arc could use a buff but I'd be more happy with a real money graphic alternative :D

Has anyone ever encountered computer crashes while running this game ? Just about every day when I'm playing poe my game freezes and my computer just restarts. It's happening a lot atm. I cant be in game for longer than 10minutes without my computer freezing and causing a restart. I don't know if it has to do with my computer or the game ?? This is the first time it's really ever happened with any game and it started about 2weeks ago. I havent been running any other games lately because i've been purely focus on PoE but im beginning to think that It might be my computer ??? I used to get some icon in the lower right saying something about my display driver.
I have a pretty powerful computer so I don't think its a performance issue ??? I'm beginning to worry something may be wrong with my computer or at least the graphics card.. been thinking about taking it to a shop or something..
Also this only happens in the evening.. im guessing because i leave my computer on for most of the day??? I usually play in the mornings and its fine then once evening comes it happens a few times then stops eventually

Restarting like that sounds like an overheating issue Obstikal. I would suggest getting some temperature monitoring program and see how hot your card/comp is running. But before that, have you cleaned it out lately? A good air dusting can ail a lot of heating problems. Also, if you want to play with much less graphical load you can turn down the AA and antitropic filtering.

Yeah i've been thinking along the same lines.. I guess its time to do some trail and error to figure out what it is.. I will clean it out tomorrow. If it persist i'll look into DLing that program you mentioned
One would think It wouldnt be a heating issue since I have two fans >.> lol

I think you'd find few people agreeing that Arc needs a buff, to be honest >_>

I'm at 3600 ES on my 70 witch, good to know I'm still in the ballpark of other players. I have almost all the ES nodes since I'm a summoner.
The maps were pretty cool until I started getting nothing but 66's from my 68's. I had hoped it would've been kind of easy to ramp up in levels but I still only have 1 68 that I need to get more chisel's for. That and outdoor maps SUCK SO MUCH for a summoner it's not even funny.

I've definitely had overheating issues with PoE. I know that my laptop's model has a history of overheating issues, but I've never personally had any problems with D3, or Dota 2, so I do think it's probably a bit more stressful on some piece of the hardware than you might expect. I'd imagine if I was using a properly cooled machine I'd be fine, but it seems like if there's a chance that your machine will overheat, PoE will do it.

Is there a faster way to buy things from npc shops in bulk than dragging one at a time? I'm trying to mass buy jeweler's for alts and it's incredibly tedious. I can't even drag onto another jeweler in my inventory, so I just end up with a screen full of 1 jeweler stacks.
|
@Obstikal & eluv, Try enabling V-sync. That usually takes care of the overheating problem. I also find it much easier on the eye. Screen tearing is really distracting.
@Southlight, I'd be in the camp to give Arc a buff. Arc is only fine in groups because of how OP Shock is. When (not if) they change shock, Arc will be miles behind Spork. Spork is already a better offense in general.
I wouldn't be surprised if Arc had its base damage modifier changed from 50% to 70% in the not-so-distant future. About the same time they'll change shock, shotgunning, LA, FP, which is hopefully with the batch of dagger/claw/melee skills that are on their way.

Arc is much stronger in a dedicated spell totem because of the range and because of how much it jumps -- I find people use Spork more often for leveling but not as much in the end-game...

Half a year ago I had this problem on my medium quality lappy. The problem for me at that time was overheating. There are 3 things you can do to reduce the overheating without much effort:
1. Clean your cooling: This one is the absolute most needed improvement of the temperature management. Besides, if you do it right you end up with a better system no matter if this is the problem. 2. Path of Exile has had several problems with overtaxing videocards. The primary problem is too high FPS. To alleviate that, you can turn on Vsync. 3. Vsync is not a guarantee that your system will work correctly: Several people (myself included) have seen the game crank out insane FPS and ignoring Vsync which causes the heating problems to increse. I use a third party fps-limiter. I use FPS_limiter_0.2 with the game.
Now, other video card problems can happen, but I am pretty sure this one has been what the 99% has happen. Find out if you can update your graphical driver. That is another top-dog.
Use F1 to see stats in game like FPS and latency in the game. Use third party tools to confirm temperature.
