It was only a matter of time, smart business in the end only gets you a team like the one Wenger makes and we all know those dont win trophies.

Although why anyone would be "disgusted" by it is beyond me. Those players arent leaving those clubs for lesser fees. The market is just really inflated. Paris has money they want to spend it let them spend it.

The inflated transfer tags started a while ago, but yes keeping the trend going doesnt help.

The thing is Man City, Chelsea and Malaga (which is a mini Man City of sorts) all play in top leagues.

PSG play in the 5th best league in the world and the biggest stars will in most cases (Thiago Silva exempting) be unwilling to go there no matter the money. Now obviously it helps that A) France produces a lot of great players they will essentially now have a monopoly on and B) Paris is a beautiful and desirable city far more so than Manchester is.

But I still don't see the likes of Gotze, Falcao, Modric and the other best players in the world not already playing for a big club moving to play for PSG over Barcelona, Real, Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea.

PSG will destroy the French league from now until the money runs out of that I have no doubt, but they'll always be handicapped by the inferior league they play in. Which is why to me they're a really odd investment over the likes of Milan/Inter/Juventus/Roma/Lazio/Arsenal/Tottenham who would surely all have been better buys for the owners.

I'd say its the best outside the big 3.

England, Italy, Germany and Spain all have far, far better leagues than France with a lot more strength in depth.

France's woeful performances in the Champions League and Uefa Cup show there's a lack of quality there.

Oh sorry I dont know why I said it was better than Germany that was stupid.

Regardless making a league attractive has to start somewhere and if PSG getting money helps do that I dont see the problem.

Additionally Uniteds "history" is about 2 decades old as far as being a major club is concerned. Otherwise and this ofcourse a big otherwise is no better than an Everton or a Liverpool.

Outside of the Busby and Fergie era I dont see to much in terms of being a great club. Every club has a history some more so than others but suggesting United have been all that for the greater part of the last century isnt particularly accurate.

What? Although the club might not have been consistently at the top of English football since Busby (which was a lot longer than two decades ago), the same thing can be said about any top club in English football. The English league isn't like Spain, where the same 2 teams have been near or at the top since it started.

Yea it can that was my point. You can call the other leagues whatever you want but the teams he was comparing them to have been at the top or near the top of their leagues consistently. I dont see why the league quality arguement has to get dragged in we arent discussing that. They have been at the top or near the top of their leagues so they have a greater history end of discussion. The Juve's the Barcelona's the Real Madrid's and the Milan's have a far richer "history" if your into that sort of thing. I dont think it matters much personally other than lousy brag points.

And again the relative parity back in the day across all of them wasnt really that different. Atleast not like it is now.

The debt is the fault of our owners. Manchester United football club is a profitable business, we do not ever spend more than we have.

Lol, this has to be a joke. Bundesliga's 6-18th teams are so much ahead of the comparable teams in England and Spain.

And yes that is a joke, just like Englands national team

oo nooo heee dddidddnntttttttt :p.

Playing in non-competitive leagues =/= greater history. By that logic, Rangers and Celtic have the best histories in world football =P

yea they actually do have some of the best histories in the world. And you seem to assume those other leagues werent competitive in the larger scheme of things maybe they were, maybe the teams that won were just that good.

point being get off the imaginary pedestal. Your not as good as you think you are and everyone else is not as bad so you think they are. Everytime an international tournament comes around its a pretty heavy handed reminder, its almost a slap to the face and still its seems hard to grasp.

Rangers and Celtic have some of the greatest histories in the world? Now you're just trolling. Then again, whether or not one finds the history of a club interesting is completely subjective - I personally find clubs that have gone through great tragedies and multiple relegations/promotions etc. more interesting than clubs who've never had any valid competition since their national league began and have never truly had their ideals challenged. As I say, this is completely subjective

And I don't know why you're talking about national sides. I never mentioned them and I certainly never said that the English national team were good, nor would I even begin to make that argument because we haven't been good for a long time. Consistently inconsistent is all England are.

Well the pedestal point wasnt about the National team it was about the league as a whole. I actually think the national team is pretty good, and Ive said it. Sure its a top 2 league but its not as far ahead as people are making out to be. And thats where international tournaments come in. Lots of players who dont play in the top leagues and do really well because theres a wealth of talent all over the world and theres alot of good teams around. I didnt say national team now did I..

Again with the subjectivity. Alright dont care anymore.

I dont even know what you guys are all arguing about. Just cool off and watch the Euros. I understand if you want to feel passionately for a team you support, but NO ONE has enough knowledge on politics/economics/history of all the clubs and big leagues in Europe to be presenting some of the arguments I've read in the past three pages.

Particularly Rebs, stop being such a douchebag in your posts.

Sorry for sticking a pin in the arrogance. Guess that counts for douchebaggery. And actually people do, its called research and I dont mean Wikipedia. Hell theres even books on it. Dismissing arguements on this sort of logic alone is pretty silly. "You cant know because no one knows". Its can at times be barebones but you can find out enough to form educated opinions.

Again Ill have you note the England comment was not supposed to be taken seriously and most people know that.

As for the Euro's I know Im enjoying them more than you are and certainly will do when Ukraine knocks you out tomorow (yeah +1 for douchebaggery)

Oh yeah that barça vs barça game for the marathon for the poor :D So awesome.

In case someone doesn't get it, the guy in the green shirt (Valdés in the first half, some other goalkeeper on the second) plays for the team in possesion of the ball, so he always attacks

It's a well known fact that Everton get better the longer the season goes on. Ergo, playing them on the first day can only be a good thing :D

since when is a core a whole team ? The guy said united is an exception with Rooney only.

Terry and Lampard have been there since the ranieri days, and have been the spine of the team for years, backed up by Cech and Drogba.

Chelsea Core: Basing on the time they have been there since the revolution. Cech(8seasons) Terry(14seasons) Ferreria(8seasons) Lampard(12Seasons) Drogba(8seasons) are (Drogba's case were) the core of Chelsea for nearly a decade.

Everyone forgets old Paulo! But he is a Chelsea legend too, mr consistant i won't forget him, a nice man too never a foot wrong on or off the field. Drogba spent 8 great seasons with Chelsea with the core, arriving with Cech and Paulo, fantastic assist he was as everyone knows. Cech, is the greatest keeper in the world, on his day. He still hasn't quite recovered from his head injury but he is still keeping Chelsea in games they should of lost (take this season as prime example). Then you have Lampard who arrived in Raneari's first season in 2001 and was a steal too! He has become the greatest goal scoring midfielder to grace the premiership to date with over 150 goals! Then you have JT, Mr Chelsea, 14 seasons at the club dating back to playing alongside current managers across the world in DiMatteo Zola Pretrescu Poyet Hughes Clarke and many more who might be in lower league jobs, he started his career in a fantastic time at Chelsea when it had real good pro's running its ranks, the reason JT is the man he is today imo. Those are the core of Chelsea.

No its true Chelsea and United post fledglings for a few years aswell did have English/British cores theres no denying that. Yes they had other great players who have contributed immensely but the consistent factors have always been the likes of Terry Cole and Lampard.. everyone else is either leaving or gone. You could probably add Czech and Drogba to that yeah..

Sure Cole came later but his impact has been more than sayyy a Paulo Ferreira.. whos been around since the start of Mou no one thinks hes a core player.(nevermind seems like people do)

Mata, David Luiz, Mereiles are not core players, Maybe later. Not now.

You can't say Paulo wasn't core member of the squad though, he played under Mourinho won 2 championships carling cup x2 and FA cup under mourinho before Jose came in to replace him, which didn't happen for a long time as Jose got injured for a whole season and then another 6months after that. Paulo skippers the team in Carling Cup games and FA Cup ties sometimes too. His brain is the reason he is a core player now, helping Portugese based players settle into the team in the likes of Bosingwa when he came Luiz Raul Ramires, and the older players we had back a few years Maniche Quaresma Deco, all helped and coached into by Paulo. He is a core member of the squad and as far as i am aware he is still contracted by the club and hasn't been released yet.

Well yeah if your talking about intangibles sure, thats something I wouldnt know but hes got fewer first team appearances and probably even fewer starts, than people who showed up 4-5 years ago. If someone isnt playing football for you on the pitch hes not someone you can build your team around and thats what core players are, people you can build teams around and actually play the game. They are the ones who ultimately impact what happens on the pitch.

136 appearances for Chelsea. 4 seasons worth of our starting right back easily. He is a core member of the team for the sheer time he has spent at the club. He is a Chelsea man now, spent the time here at Chelsea with and without Mourinho and i think he has shown he is a core member. He is 33 and played vs Benfica this year, and to be honest his defensive work with second to none, kept gaiten and co out of the game for a full 90minutes in the stadium of light, pretty good if u ask me
