Right lets start a new topic of discussion after the whole "which league is the best" got a bit out of hand! lol.
So FIFA, in general pretty bad organisation? Seems really corrupt and has some weird rules and crazy ranking system. So the discussion i want to bring to the thread is.
1 Spain 2 Germany 3 Netherlands 4 Uruguay 5 England 6 Portugal 7 Brazil 8 Italy 9 Croatia 10 Denmark
Is this really the top 10 teams in the world? I mean seriosuly FIFA? Denmark and Croatia in the top 10? I for one am always baffled at the Rankings when they come out and this is the latest batch. Even Germany being the 2nd best team in the world confuses me no end, i mean Holland and Spain where fighting it out for the previous world cup in the final, and Holland hardly lose a game since, won all Euro qualifiers in group and Germany go past them? What is going on!
Discuss below and add your Top 10 to your post. Heres mine.
Spain Holland Germany Uruguay England Italy Brazil (Due to sheer Talent) Argentina Portugal (been in terrible form) Sweeden (always perform well never an easy game)

Friendly matches also count for the ranking system iirc. Germany beat nl in a friendly and thus got a lot of points for that. Germany is better than us atm though so them being placed 2nd isnt off.

Germany lost to Spain in semi finals and Netherlands lost in the Finals. Both Netherlands and Germany went 10-0 in their Euro qualifiers groups. Germany has overall performed slightly better in tha last 48 months, I don't understand what should be wierd about that even in the slightest.

keep overlooking france, just the way it was unti 98 theres a germany-france friendly wednesday,i sure do not expect to win,as blanc is once again trying new players, but well see if we got a shot in three months. I do believe that given the right circonstances.,and most importantly if the players selected are the one deserving it,youre in for a surprise. ps:france over england anyday, and thats putting my bias aside

Agree, Germany beat Netherlands convincingly in the friendly. Granted, it was not the best XI possible for the Dutch, but they never take friendlies against Germany easy, yet still got outplayed. Germany have been Top 4 in the last 2 big championships. Usually I am very critical about our national side, but this German team is on paper only weaker than one team, Spain.
Apart from that, the Ranking is computed by results. It's not an arbitrary list generated by a handful of old men sitting in a room at a cup of tea rolling dice.

Denmark was in the same qualifier groups with Portugal for this EM and the last WM and they finished first both times. If anything, they are underrated. Croatia has some good players and more importantly they are a good unit/team and are hard to play. People only look on the individual players in order to judge the team strength, but that's not how it works. For example Argentina has Messi and other great players, but the national team hasn't performed well in years. Messi plays 3 classes worse when he puts that jersey on. England e.g. is way overrated, every big tournament the English media hypes them up to be a title contender, when in reality they haven't been in many many years.
As for Top10 it's nearly impossible to come up with a decent one. I think everyone can agree with Spain on #1 spot. Holland and Germany maybe on a shared #2. Behind those three I would put Uruguay and Italy right now. Then you have a large quantity of good European and South American teams. Just look at the South American qualifiers, they have like 6-7 really strong teams that can beat nearly everyone on a good day.

FIFA list looks quite fine to me. I would probably switch spots between England and Italy and add Argentina on 9th or 10th spot. That's it.

My impressions from Marseille - Inter: it was like watching blind leading the blind all across the surface of dark side of the Moon carrying ony a flashlight with exhausted batteries and a depleted air supply backpack. Well, at least the result was right.

With Laporta Cruyff was "Honorific President" and Barça had UNICEF sponsor, but they lost a lot of money (ibrahimovic, for example).

Personally I think that the Cruyff setion is the right one: All that Barça has got come come from: Rinus Michel > Ajax Academy > Cruyff > Barcelona Academy > Guardiola and "La masia".

Cruijff probably had nothing to do with financial decissions though. With Ajax he only wants to advice too, he wants to take care of the technical part not the financial.

Yes, It is just the evolution of Barcelona assosiates. Normally the anti-cruyff assosiates are more financial (This come from Laporta excess that did the team waste a lot of money, who was a pro-cruyff/nederlands style man).
Democratics teams with lot of assosiates are crazy, Madrid is a world too.

if you ask me i dont know why england is 5th, england didn't even qualify for euro 2008
and: forgot 4:1 against england and 4:0 against argentina at World Cup 2010? i cant think of one single game in a big tournament between two big countries that ended like that.

Germany are no way better than Holland. Basing anything on "Friendlies" is not a good idea in my opinion. No one takes Friendlies majorly important. England for the era under Sven never took Friendlies properly they always made the 10/11 substitutions every game, thus FIFA eventually brought in the rule of your only allowed to use 5 or 7 subs? Cant remember. But in the group stages where Germany went 10-0 they played the likes of Turkey Belgium Austria Azerbajen and Kazakhstan. These are no way any of them good teams, Turkey has lost all its good players they used to have and played really poorly under Gus Hiddink which i was extremely suprised about. Belgium are eventually going to be an AMAZING team the talent they have produced are awesome, but they have 0 experience at the moment and need to build it through to eventually become the great team (maybe even top 10 in the world achievable). Then the rest are the usual spanking teams. Netherlands group was alot harder, for example they went 9-1 and only lost to Sweden i beleive in an intesnse game at Sweden. They had already qualified when that game was played too. Rest of there group was harder than Germanys but still easy apart from Sweden. I guess we will find out this Euros to see who goes futher, but Holland have always had great great players, where Germany just turn up so well into Championships and do well. Holland like spain where under achivers for how good there squad was/is and will be a good force to beat in Euros. But i think Holland deserve ranking above Germany, due to getting to world cup final comfertably and looking good all through the tournament and WC qualification. Undefeated in WC qualification won every game, got to Finals winning every game in WC then losing to spain, went 9-1 in Euros group and now in Euro 2012. Can understand the comments about Argentina but they have not had a decent manager in years! I mean Maradonna seriously? Guy is crazy due to his drugs and alcohol abuse, and yes Messi doesnt play that well when he plays for Argentina but they still did ok in the WC. Denmark being better than Portugal due to beating them to 1st in both WC and Euro qualifiers is not all that good, for years since Scolari left and them hiring Carlos Quieros from Man Utd they have been shit, really shit, so bad i think even England could beat them now. But they still have the players to turn it on and solid across the whole pitch, Denmark only have one star for me who can open teams up and thats Erikkson but to put everything on his shoulders at such a young age is a bad idea imo. Croatia are not good, since there famous beating of England during the Euro 2008 qualification groups they have been going down hill ever since, didn't qualify for the WC in Germany and nor have they Qualified for Euro 2012 they look a shadow of there former self. England comfertably beat them in Euro 2012 qualification games having tougher games vs Montengero than Croatia, they do not deserve top 10 ranking in WORLD FOOTBALL.

I hope you realise the way the ranking system works with all the games that have been played since 2006 and 8 that those achievements as far as ranking is concerned are effectively meaningless ? They matter certainly especially when deciding pots for qualifying groups but the bearing on the rankings themselves is very little (to the tune of basically you survive in the top 10 if you are that good historically and havent been absolutey shit recently) And were almost at the euros now alot of footballs been played since the World Cup, get over it.
That having been said the rankings dont appear to bad to me. It is completely result oriented with some weights to the quality (in terms of rank) of the opposition. I dont see whats wrong with it. Its reasonably accurate as far as the top 10 are concerned. You can make arguments for alot of intangibles and qualities within teams themselves but you cant qualify them so theres no point really.
On February 24 2012 20:36 Pandemona wrote: Croatia are not good, since there famous beating of England during the Euro 2008 qualification groups they have been going down hill ever since, didn't qualify for the WC in Germany and nor have they Qualified for Euro 2012 they look a shadow of there former self. Pointlessly unnecessary rant in the rest of your post aside, you are just pointing out intangibles that I mentioned which are just an opinion. Has nothing to do with how ranks are taken into account sadly. Only stuff like College Football (American) has that kind of convoluted hard to figure out system.
Im just going to point out where you are flat out wrong.
Croatia is playing Euro 2012 albiet they slipped the group to a pretty solid Greece and then beat a not so strong turkey in the playoffs. Additionally they are a pot 1 team like England so why would you ever think they were in the same qualifying group ? England did not play them for Euro qualifying. So your opinion is worthless if thats what you are basing it of off.
I dont know how you magically managed to have England beat Croatia in a qualifier that has never been played but the word "butthurt" comes to mind. I dont see why though its not thatttt famous. Maybe for England supporters but the rest of the world doesnt really care as much. The dutch failed to get to WC 2002 that was a bigger deal to me.

Germany is better than NL. Only team that's better than Germans is Spain. Germany will be #1 when Xavi retires, they have amazing youth, I know it's the same for Spain but there will never be another Xavi.

Ok.
1. Germany lost and drew more friendlies than they won as well, That is normal, every team tests new players.
2. If you degrade germany's opponents during the qualifiers for Euro 2012, I can do the same with Holland's opponents during the World Cup 2010 Knock out stage:
Germany had to face England (4:1), then Argentina (4:1), and then Spain (0:1) in the semis. Holland had to face Slovakia (wtff??) (2:1), then Brasil (2:1), and then Uruguay (3:2) in the semis.
If Germany had to play these opponents, they would have reached the final as well.
If you look at it objectively and not with your english genetically predisposed anti Germany attitude, you have to admit that I am right, even though my argument at Point 2. is hypothetical.

btw: I think Italy will win Euro 2012, and i really mean it.
