. They can't help but lose the ball and they are distinctly mediocre at tactical defending. Anyway, if we can keep within 1 goal of Napoli, at least we have an away goal to take to the Bridge...

There was a small phase after Chelski's goal where Napoli didn't look that good, apart from that they played a lot better than Chelski so far imo. Aside from the goal Chelsea had only 1 good chance, the header of Sideshow Luiz.

That's Gary Neville, famous Manchester Utd defender. And he has a point, the Napoli defence is not great. Just like the Chelsea defence. Difference is they have a sick attack and ours is pretty unreliable.

Today, they felt completely sterile, a shadow of their former selves; even their sole goal was because of a major defensive error by Napoli, Mata having to complete a simple formality. Other than that, i can't recall any major oportunity for them to score in 96 minutes, and this against a team with quite a weak back line. But is AVB really the one to blame for this on his first season coaching a super team? Torres was a huge cash sink that lead to no results, as he's completely out of shape for a very long time now. Essien, the man who scored that brilliant goal against Barcelona, now seems like isn't the same man as he was before his long injury spell. Drogba, aged, looked very sloppy today, especially regarding his passes. Terry, out. Lampard, still good, but his age starts to show. And honestly, with the exceptions of Cech, Mata and a couple of others, the team looks rather mediocre. Perhaps it's time for Abramovich to shell out more of that oil money and improve the squad, especially in the central defense and midfield department.

The players simply lack the quality that they used to - many of the players are simply shadows of their former selves. That is why there was such a sharp dip in form last year - I don't think Ancellotti was doing anything different from the year that Chelsea won the double - yet the team had alot of trouble breaking down opposing defenses when they were scoring at will the year before. As to the game itself, Cavani and Lavezzi were immense and caused so much trouble with the Chelsea defense. I'm not optimistic at all for the second leg, but I'm hopeful that we can pull something out.
