Messi 2 games without Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas just 1 = 6 goals.

![]() Socrates' remarkable celebration. The balled fist represented his political position against the military dictatorship + Show Spoiler [tribute] + ![]() Socrates is dead. He's one of the greatest brazilian midfielders of all time and was a part of our 1982 national team. He was truly a unique character in the football scene as he was known for being a great person. Socrates focused on studies and finished med school before becoming a professional player when he was 23yo. He was a very technical and elegant player. Unfortunately I can't find any decent video about him, but here is a video of the brazilian 1982 team, which is considered to be our best ever despite not winning the world cup. Socrates donned the number 8 and was easily recognized by his epic beard. In the video below he scores a sick goal at 2:50.

Denmark Just looking at the names you're absolutly right, but somehow they didn't play as well as in their clubs when they played with the national team in the past. There is a reason why they had to play the qualifiers for the last two big events and if they don't pick up their game, it don't see them advancing. Mind you, they only finished second behind Denmark in their group. Because of the great players they do have they are of course capable of doing so and if they do, they will be a scary team to play. Btw another example of a national team with great individualists that somehow play way worse than at the clubs is Argentina. They have Messi and all those other great players, but still they don't really perform well. Portugal always suffers a lot from the lack of rythm that the qualifiers imply. They always up their game when they're concentrated on the finals of a Euro/World Cup. It's gonna be a tough group, no doubt about it, but also with great games between all of the teams. Personally I think we can go second in the group, Denmark doesn't really hold up together and the Netherlands for some reason always chokes against Portugal. But it's gonna be hard, that's for sure.

Great games, all of them, granted. But it's going to be really hard for Portugal. They have a few extremely good players, but the overall quality, especially in midfield, doesn't seem enough to cope with Germany or Netherlands. Current Netherlands are very strong on wingers and central midfield, both regions where Portugal lack in defense (Coentrao can take up the pace on a good day, but that is not a given). The main striker won't get any chances, but Sneijder will have enough chances to force a wonderstrike home. Ronaldo and Nani can make the difference on a good day of course, but if you lose the midfield battle, there won't be many chances for them to get in position. For Germany in the current form, on the other hand, they are too one-dimensional. Lahm is one of the few players in the world that can pick up Ronaldo in a straight up challenge and has done before, and Loew would be stupid to not set up that pair. And without Ronaldo, Portugal are not very dangerous. The weakest region in Germany's defense is centre backs, and there is no threat from Portugal in that region. On the other hand, the strongest region of Portugal in defense, the centre backs Pepe and Carvalho, are likely to be dragged out of positions against Özil and Klose due to their unconventional front up play, where both the defenders cannot profit from their main strength. If Germany fields Gomez in that game as the central striker though, Portugal are likely to keep a clean sheep. And then they are better than Denmark on paper of course, but they lost to them in qualifiers aswell, so this isn't a walkover either. That team has such a good chemistry, and in any other group they would be the dark horse of the tournament I guess. Overall, its an exciting group of which you can blog about for every single day until the tournament starts, I guess. Cannot wait until it takes off.

Watching Chelsea vs Valencia was brilliant tho. Thinking Valencia is 3rd in Primera division, premier league is just alot faster play than (la liga) Valencia who didn't move much, it's more about having the ball for a long time. Really depressing considering they're 3rd

No. They are resting their core line-up for the big upcoming El Clasico this week. If anything, they actually made BATE a favor, since Borisov needed a win to qualify for Europa League.
