After seeing a decent turnout in the tl.net channel on Azeroth a couple of us are finally trying to set up the tournament we've been thinking about. At the bottom of the post the tournament format is shown. This is something that can change depending on the amount of people who participate.

To sign up you can simply PM me stating your azeroth account and an e-mail address where you can be contacted. Remember to check your PM's and this thread to keep up to date on the tournament and scheduling.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:

-The tournament begins by creating divisions. How many players in total sign up will effect how many players are in one division and how many divisions are created.

-Each division will have a single round robin. This means that everyone in the division will play everyone else in the divsion in one series (bo3). There are time limits for these matches. They must be reported within 7 days of the divisions being posted. You must contact your opponent through TL.net's PM system or Battle.net(on Azeroth). If you have problems contacting your opponent please PM a tournament organizer.

-After all matches are finished the top of each division will advance. The number of players advancing per division depends on how many players sign up in total.

-Players on top of their division will advance to a final playoff tournament.

-Tournament matches will be best two out of three until the finals which will be best three out of five.

VARIOUS:

-This tournament is based largely on trust. BUT you must save all replays of matches played in the the competition until it is over. This is incase of challenges.

-Participants will be told how to report games when the tournament begins.

Alright we've already got an OK amount. We can handle more, though.

I think the way it's going to work is, once the divisions are posted, you contact your own opponents for when you want to play. And you have a week to do so. So, everyone should be able to find flexible enough time to play during the week. I'm guessing there will be maybe 3-4 people per division, so that's 3-4 best of 3's in a week. Fairly doable I would think, as long as something doesn't come up for someone.
We cant give up just because things arent the way we want them to be.

Any word on what maps will be used? Obviously standard ladder would be the safest, but do we want to allow any of the Korean league maps?

I assume you'll fill us in later on map picking procedures etc.

hmmm I cant say I've really played any of the kor league maps but regular solo ladder maps seems to be the safest bet to me

Perhaps let's go for most balanced maps only? (twisted meadows, roc gnoll wood etc.) I mean no maps that favor certain races. Would be a lot more fair for weaker players especially and the games could prove more interesting. But that's just my thoughts.

I wanna hear from others about how balanced certain maps are because before I quit playing 1v1 ladder, Twisted Meadows seemed pretty imbalanced. Maybe its because I was scrubby UD player

Sidenote: I will probably play if times are flexible.

Twisted Meadows is pretty balanced I feel (compared to the other ladder maps). There is a tavern, but the fighting arena and other aspects make it much easier for other races than NE as opposed to Turtle Rock where there is always massive creeping done.

I think Twisted Meadows, Gnoll Wood, Plunder Isle, Lost Temple, and Turtle Rock are all good, but as far as Turtle goes, NE vs UD would be difficult there, Plunder has a couple of difficult matchups but nothing major, and anything vs Human on Temple would be difficult. On the other hand those are specific matchups and without meaning to offend anyone, I don't think the majority of the players would know how to fully take advantage of those situations anyway.

Aside from those maps, Maelstrom is pretty good if people wanted to use that, but I dunno. I think there should definitely be a majority of ladder maps though. Ice Forge and Whirlwind aren't a good choice though, those aren't played often outside of ladder, if that.

gnoll wood?
cant be twisted some items are pretty unfair, and lost temple people will complain of fast expos, the mana fountain in gnoll might get some complaining actually also...

TT. I'd love to join, but I dont have a cd key any longer. But I used to play ladder, and I believe gnoll wood is okay. The one with a mana fountain is okay, better than a health fountain. Ice Forge, if it is the frozen map with X like starting positions is fine too. LT is absolute nono. It is horribly imbalanced for HU and NE, but of course NE can fast expand on any map so it is less of an advantage.

Gnollwood and Twisted Meadows are the most balanced maps imo. As to the rest:
Plunder Isles - favors orc slightly
Lost Temple - HU and NE fast expos :/
Turtle Rock - definitely favors NE, easy tavern, pretty small, heavy creeping

We could also play on some 2v2 maps. Some of them are pretty fine for 1v1 imo (Wetlands, Avalanche).
