Alright so I'm gonna ask this here since I have a hard time getting around SRK.

I'm picking up SSF4AE in a short while here and I've never really played any Fighting games other then some MK9, in your opinion what is the best character to start off with, like if I just wanna get my mechanicals and general game skill up.

Right now I'm leaning on someone like Ryu or Ken since from what I've seen and read those two are very easy to start off with.

Ryu or Ken have all basic commands you need to learn for this game.

practice hadoukens, shoryukens and ultras in both directions, you should spend 70% of your time in training mode practicing combos and mechanics and the rest online bashing noobs for fun.
Also theres some good tutorials on youtube i recomment watching, you will learn the mechanice there.

Ryu is definitely the character that you can play to go through the fundamentals.

Ken, when played correctly, is quite complicated and learning him as a regular fundamental fireball character is not very good imo.

ryu is like the most basic character, his commands apply to most characters and its a good character to get through fundamentals, unlike say viper who is very specific and dosnt really help you with other characters.

I'd say start with Ken, he's a little stronger in AE than ryu.

Just mash f+mk to victory :p Or do as others have said.

Yeah but as you advance and learn more about tricks and inputs and stuff, then you can move from Ryu to Ken. Ryu is the best as a basic character to start with.

I'm not saying you're talking complete and utter shit ( again ), but in what way is Ryu an easier character to learn than Ken?

Kara throws and step kick zoning, I suppose. Not really "advanced" techniques, but integral to Ken's game plan (and severely underused by newbie Kens).

Because Ryu has basic zoning fireballs, basic cancels, basic use of fadc's for a player with zero experience. With ken you're not really using the fireball game in the same way and there are other techniques like kara throwing that you don't deal with, using Ryu.

Why are you trying to argue it you can ask any normal human being and they'll all say Ryu is the basic character for a guy with zero knowledge.

Thats funny that you call that talking complete and utter shit when I can go to a thousand people who know this game way better than you ever will and they'll say the same thing.
