If you are curious as to how the game plays I suggest watching a stream (This post is taking me too long to write as is). When you do get bored, it will be because you basically did everything. The game currently is an ocean wide and ankle deep. The expansion should be coming out next month, and will cost $60 USD. It should add more features to the game, and some will carry onto the base game. If you pre-order the expansion, there is a discount for those who own the base game. Which, conveniently, is the same amount of money as the current discounted cost of Elite. So you can technically get both for $60 USD, where you get to try the current game for cheap. Just pay attention as I think the discount goes away sometime around (soon before or after) the release of the expansion. NOTE: The discount is easiest to get when you buy the base game from Frontier Developments store instead of steam. I THINK you have to link your ED steam game to a Frontier account in order to get the discount on the Frontier store. Both Steam and Frontier are selling the game at the same price. With all that being said, Elite is definitely worth it at $15 USD. Just note that the game should be moving over to DX11 and 64-bit within a year, so it may not play nice with all systems soon. I have not played Elite without a joystick, but from what I have read from reddit is that it is perfectly playable. There is a tradeoff of more intuitive flight/manoeuvrability with the joystick versus aiming accuracy of the mouse. PS3 pad might work fine as the game is out for XBox, and thus should have some form of controller support. Elite definitely has control remapping. | ||

You don't have to worry about the game not being deep, because there's also a new expansion coming up very soon called Horizons allowing you to land on planets and do stuff there. It's like Eve online except with none of the boring hundreds of hours dumped into macro. Above all, what Elite: Dangerous is great at is making you feel like a real spaceship pilot. If that appeals to you, buy this game and the expansion ASAP. | ||
