There's too many fanboys that will buy AAA titles no matter what. They are being exploited because their 'strategy' at buying games is flawed and developers exploit that.


But apart from it being too casual, I don't think Mass Effect games are low production or cheap. Rushing games has been endemic in gaming for about a decade. Before that AAA titles used to be the exception to thos.
Releasing games only when they were perfect and you have to go back to games like Dungeon Keeper and Starcraft. Maybe some of you remember how long those games were delayed.
After that, big games were all released with a tight schedule. Just look at Diablo 2, act 4. It only has 3 waypoints where all other acts have 9. Game wasn't finished. Ending was rushed.
For the last 10 years it has really been impossible to delay a game for a year because a AAA title with 1 year dated graphics isn't going to sell and then a huge investment is ruined.

Yes, with Mass Effect 3 it was kind of obvious. But really one should have gotten used to it. Maybe it is more striking because the two earlier reaper battles were quite good and many players expected the ending to be a real climax epic battle wise.

People that pirate a game have the same effect as people who don't play games. In fact, if anything it would actually do the opposite of what is claimed. Some people may only buy games that are extremely good. They first play them for free then 'vote with their wallet'.

Devs that make bad games should lose profit. If so, piracy would actually discourage rushed games, bad endings and lame DLC rather than encourage it. So blaming this on pirates is silly because if they actually have an effect, they have a positive one rather than a negative one.
And this is actually what some devs claim they see and what some devs base their stratey on.

What piracy may do is lower the size of the market and thus also the budget of the titles.

Also, it makes no sense to suggest that you should never pirate because then you don't pay. If you don't want to pay, then don't and pirate if you want the game. If you want to pay you can do so at any point. It makes no sense to suggest that by never pirating you can trick yourself into paying when you don't want to. I understand very well that many people just decide to pirate and not buy. But if you aren't willing to pay after pirating, how are you willing to pay without pirating? Doesn't make sense. If you don't want to pay you don't want to pay. If after pirating you aren't willing to pay you weren't willing to pay before you pirate. Hence you pirate.

Maybe you can somehow trick yourself into never pirating ever. But it is not a logical argument.
