It's one of maybe 3 playable cards outside standard in the entire set. It's a really, really weak set in comparison to most other recent ones.

It's not that hard. Nearly every other card that does something that would be great outside the block is severely overcosted.

Every set has a couple of cards like that. This set has much more narrow ones and I'm stretching it by even saying 3 cards would see lots of play outside Standard.

Or you could go back to Alara where each set had a ton of cards like that <_<

Alara??? What cards from alara are played in modern/legacy? From the entire block, I can only think of elspeth, nacatl, and cascade cards, but cascade is just broken.

With the size of the cardpool for these formats, you aren't going to get more than maybe 3 cards from a set that might have an impact on these formats.

Cascade cards made and make multiple decks in modern/extended (which still exsists GPT San Diego is extended). The power in the cards from Lorriwyn, Alara, and Zendicar were much higher than that of the cards coming to us in Innistrad. Snapcaster mage will be played in all kinds of blue decks. THE THING IS CRYPTICS 5-8 FOR 2 MORE MANA. Of course it will be played. I'm playing 2 in my GPT deck with stoneforges.

O I see. But still, alara block brought 2 good cards and cascade. I wouldn't call that a powerful block just because of 1 broken mechanic. Lorwyn block certainly was powerful though. Zendikar doesn't see much play in legacy/modern either. It brought fetchlands but outside of that there really just pyromancer's ascension. And with the recent bannings, that probably won't get played anymore.

New extended sure, Modern? Not so much outside of...a few from each set.

Also, you aren't playing Stoneforges...unless you want to get clowned.

Path over Swords? Nah...

Edit: I like how nobody mentions the two cards that see the most play, Pridemage/Knight.

Ok, I forgot conflux. But those 2 cards along with knight of the reliquary are only good cards from the set. Which is my point. You don't usually see a set with more than 3 cards that make an impact on older formats.

Banlist isn't till Oct 1 right? The GPT is on the friday of the release. So I get snapcasters and Swords and Stoneforges for a whole 24 hours. Jace too.

Qasali Pridemage, Noble Heirarch, Elspeth, Wild Nacatl, Bloodbraid Elf, Path to Exile, Relic of Progenitus, Maelstrom Pulse, Knight of the Reliquary, Ad Nauseum, Ethersworn Canonist, Cascade cards (like Bloodbraid Elf), Sphinx of the Steel Wind, Magister Sphinx, Cruel Ultimatum, Ranger of Eos, Progenitus....

So yeah, just a few.
