Just downloaded MTGO for my computer, have a few questions... I have no idea where to go first, I tried to look into lobbies, and got totally confused. I heard there are many modes and gametypes (NOT SURE, just heard), I want to play just standard. Where am I supposed to go for that? Since I have 50$ that i can spend, should I spend money on drafting, or buying packs? I'm more interested in drafting though.. WHEN I DO DRAFT and get all the things figured out, since I'm not good I don't want to waste my money, what are good drafting guides to use? If I draft bad, or get bad cards that don't go together, can I change them and use them for other decks after the draft? Lastly, are there quick hotkeys that I can use in the game? If so, what are easy ones that are useful to learn?

SG is in a lot of things because it removes Thragtusk, opposing SGs. Angel of Serenity isn't anywhere near as abusive (nor is Reanimator) if it doesn't hide Thragtusk.

I was looking at getting into this myself and found this new player faq which explained a whole lot here, and a general faq here. First one explains how to get the most value for your money by boosters and cards on the secondary market cheaper for tickets than through the store, general one has more about how the drafts work. Should be enough to start out at least, but others will surely be able to help more.

What are some good websites and bots for purchasing (with Credit Card or PayPal) MTGO tix and boosters, cheaply and safely?

Why not just buy tix from the MtGO Store? Last I checked, tix on eBay were going for $1 or more, so you won't be saving any money that way.

Sideboard depends on your local scene.
Sidenote, is a red splash completely out of your budget?

It could be if it's convincing and not too crazy pricey. I'm ditching on the woodland cemeterys though I think, the ~40 bucks for a playset is just insane =/

I think you should just play TWoo's dirty mono red deck. The Red/Black color is the cheapest right now to make a deck out of.
I also believe that any aggro deck packing brimstone volleys has a chance of winning against any deck, thragtusk or not.

mono-red has been putting up results in a few recent DEs, for what it's worth

yeah it's one of the best online decks but it isn't as good IRL because people don't randomize in paper as well as MODO.

I'll take any paper RNG over any computer RNG. The only benefit is that the computer does it infinitely faster. People can learn to randomize better, MODO can not.

So I'm going to compete in GP Chicago tomorrow, along with some friends who also play competative Magic. I'm pretty happy with my list and so are my friends with theirs. Right now I'm just finalizing what other decks I could face along with the key cards/matchups for various decks, sideboarding options, etc.
Here's my list, feel free to comment on it: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/affinity-modern-01-10-12-1/

not convinced that leyline is the right choice

6-0'd the draft with a sweet Azorius deck, featuring 3 voidwielders, 2 skymark rocs, 2 frostburn weirds, archon. Board into the triple cancel plan vs control, pack an extra dramatic rescue vs aggro.
What was odd was the draft, P1P1 was skymark roc, passing street spasm, lobber crew, frostburn weird, so I figured the guy to my left would likely move into red, so I should cut blue harder than white so that he goes rakdos over izzet. I still end up feeling a bit cut, end up taking an inspiration and stuff earlier than I'd like. P2P1 comes along, and it's an Armada Wurm vs Justiciar. I figure I might be able to splash it and take the wurm. P2P3 is another skymark roc, and there have been no real selesnya cards in either of the packs, so I start heading back towards Azorius.(Turns out the guy to my left also had P2P1 Armada Wurm and so was cutting me out). P3P1 is a terrible pack for Azorius, so I hate out the Pack Rat.
So basically I want to know is if you would splash Pack Rat off of no fixing (2 azo guildgates) given that the most color intensive cards for a single color is 2 Frostburn Weird, and Sunspire Griffin (also 3 Cancel because they ended up going late, played 1 maindeck). Or maybe splash Armada Wurm.
I felt that playing Pack Rat would be wrong because I would have it be a dead card half the time, and T5 1 swamp pack rat is not nearly as scary as having multiple swamps. It would also hurt the consistancy of the rest of my deck. Same thought with Armada Wurm, I felt like Frostburn Weird would be far better if I didn't need to cut islands, good as Armada Wurm is.
I can post the entire list if you would actually want to see what I played, and relevant SB.

I'd play it off 1 Swamp. But I'm super greedy.

So Channel Fireball has decided that Jund doesn't have enough good cards, so they put in Lingering Souls instead of Kitchen Finks or Geralf's Messengers

It appears that they've added some number of Godless Shrines and 4x Lingering Souls.
I'm not sure if they're also running Marsh Flats as well.
With Fetches and Deathrite Shaman it doesn't really seem to be that big of a burden to the mana base.
Edit: Kibler playing GW not a surprise, but weird to see him without Knights. They get wrecked by Deathrite Shaman though. Looks like LSV has busted out of his slump though: top 8 last GP, 8-1 on day one this GP. It would be weird to see him go into the Hall of Fame next year while having a string of awful results.

I really liked Kibler's Junk deck, too bad about the draws in G3 (lands and mana creatures ftw), it's like something I'd play.
