A group of nightmare level guys wanted me to power them through act4 into hell so I obliged until we got to diablo and then helped no more. As they were too low level I let them beat on diablo for a while and then tped, went hostile, then powerwalked to diablo. Being too low level, they were fruitlessly beating away at d when I come in and whirlwind through the whole pack killing diablo and 5 other guys in one punch. They were mad and still in NM for the rest of their lives.
If any part of the PKing in this story is true then the people you were rushing were monumentally stupid on absolutely every single level.
Hmm the high lvl guy that is rushing us just went to town and hostiled us all, lets all stand around in the same area. and try and kill diablo, which we obviously cant because were getting a rush in the first place!

what changes? honestly I played d2 for 5 years and don't know jack about the story.. is there a good place I can read up on the lore of d1 and d2?
The hero from Diablo 1 is now all of a sudden King Loric's bastard child
And I thought that this hero became Diablo in Diablo 2 and got killed by new hero guy ?
Yes at the end of Diablo 1 he tries to contain Diablo's soulstone within his own body and gets taken over by Diablo who then gets killed again in Diablo 2 and his soulstone destroyed in the hellforge

Heh, I hope they do since the item+drop system was the main thing that had me invest 1000+ hours into this game :-)

So the only thing they really added was give this Diablo 1 Warrior a name and a back story, I can handle that. Not much of a retcon really...

I don't really care that much as I'm sure the story will still be great, but the reason it's a big deal is because in D1 Leoric's son got possessed by Diablo and dies in the end, and Cain in D2 talks about how the player who killed Diablo in D1 is the dark wanderer.

Well yes, that's exactly my point. Neither of those 2 things changed. The kid possed by Diablo in D1 is still Prince Albrecht. The warrior of D1 still becomes the wanderer in D2. The only real retcon is that in D1 (and thus in D2) the name or identity of this warrior(/Dark Wanderer) was not known, he was a generic warrior. Now he is a son of King Leoric (NOT Prince Albrecht, seems like he had more kid's then just the one). Or in Bashiok's words:

Something very cool about D2 was how they kept all the D1 characters in some form of another. Warrior is Dark Wanderer, Sorcerer is Summoner and Rogue is Blood Raven.

It's not the same son. I'm not sure if it was ever mentioned wether that was the only son of Leoric in D1 or even if it is suposed to be a long lost son that was hidden at the time, but it does seem really minor in my view. I've seen much, much worse, specially from Blizzard. Basically every single game from them retcons something.

Onto a new subject, what style of PvE do you guys want to see? Personally, I think D2 had potential for a good PvE, but it wasn't great outside bosses and uber trist. When mobs were too tough to handle, all you had to do was patiently kite. I hope that there are a lot of times in D3 where enemies surround you, or you walk into a room and the door shuts behind you. That way you are forced to use strategy and team coordination.
Oh yeah and I also didn't like rejuv potions. It took a long time to collect a full belt of them, and once you did, it was an instant win ticket provided you don't get one hit. Even though I had the option to use them or not, I would rather not be tempted.
What do you guys think?
I don't think I've ever liked PvE in a game, and I've never played the single player to any game (barring Sc2 since I didn't play BW and I knew the game was very hard). That said, I think the loot system in D2 made PvE actually quite fun. Leveling up and grinding will ALWAYS be monotonous and boring, it's like that always, even WoW with new raids every week or whatever is like that. But Diablo at least was more interesting due to how loot worked (anyone could grab it, you had to keep an eye for it, you coudl work with a party who might snag loot or by yourself which may take longer). It was a lot of fun fighting for the loot from Diablo dropping, if not a bit aggravating when something epic drops and a lvl 1 you were helping out steals it.
omg... im going to quit my job, desert my family, leave behind my responsibilities, isolated myself from real world, lock myself in my own room when D3 comes out =)

Yeah, I love the "nobody gets through unscathed" vibe.
This doesn't bode well for our beloved D2 heroes though. I don't know if all their fates will be revealed in detail, but I doubt they're headed towards a comfortable retirement.
Apart from the Barbarian off course, but I bet he's on one hell of a guilt trip.

Man, I have been giving d3 a tough time, but watching that force2 video update on d3 on the previous page made me realize just how much I desire the beta!!
i would totally play D1 right now, thats how hyped i am. The thing is i'm not willing to ruin my mouse by clicking 1000 times to kill a single enemy hehe
Also the Bnet D3 betabox art has changed if someone is interested.
This is exactly my monitor! But I see no Diablo 3 on mine
Same here actually. >_<
Bashiok answered to someone's thread with a bluepost. (Old news, but keeps the thread super updated!)
"Beta coming any time soon at all?
We’re still looking good for third quarter, which is before the end of September.
We’re preparing ourselves for an extremely limited, and extremely rough beta. The number of people let in will simply be dependent on concurrency of active players (we want to keep it full), and rough because we expect many issues as we’re trying out a lot of new hardware and systems all at the same time. We’ll get it ironed out before release of course, but while most of our other game tests have been of seemingly releasable products, we’re preparing for this one to be a true beta."
