I partially agree with the people upset about the graphics. I have absolutely no problem with the "cartooney" look or the feel at all. It just seems very rough around the edges overall, technologically. Characters have shockingly low detail sometimes, shadows look terrible in a few shots, and there doesnt seem to be any sort of advanced shaders, like even what SC2 has. I'm not going to scream murder based off a few videos shown but it definitely seems like it could use more polishing. Hopefully it will get it.

It is the concept of discreteness. Where skill attainment is a discrete event, guided by fate of the battle against monsters. This creates the aura of adventurism that is necessary for immersion to the game. The case is directly the opposite with XP as it eliminates the direct monster slaughter-loot tension dynamic, replacing it with a grind dynamic.

Ok, guess I can relate to that. There was something cool about getting a new book drop in D1 as it meant a new skill. So from your viewpoint, the runes are a good? I mean, they do pretty much what you say, a discrete new skill which comes directly from monster-loot?

For me personally the XP-or-loot thing doesn't change much. The core (or end result I guess) is still the same: you slay monster and you get better skills. The books that dropped (or the ones you could read) depended on your skill level, so you still had to level up to get new skills, the feel of the 2 games wasn't that different.

The biggest change for me (and also the reason why I liked D1 more than D2, or at least at first), was the ease of making a char and starting an adventure. I like perfection in my characters. This meant I couldn't start a char and just start wailing, as I needed to know how much strength and dex I needed, or which skills I would've liked to use. For me this new D3 builds looks pretty good.

you clearly have no idea what anyone is talking about. It's the atmosphere they fucked up. It looks just like wow...

When this art controversy first started (like what, 3-4 years ago?), a lot of people seemed to think the actual colors were the problem. They went so far as to suggest a red filter be used. The whole indy-atmosphere thing came later
Honestly, D2 screwed up D1's atmosphere already. And I liked still D2.

Also, I feel it's hard to convey a sense of feeling and atmosphere from a screenshot. A character with a tiny light radius might look nice in a screenshot, but it would suck as a game. I'm going to wait for the game to be released before bashing the atmosphere.

luckily we have videos and not just screenshots

Right, because SC2 plays just like those videos we saw before beta started...

They're still poloshing the game and I for one think the videos manage to get the atmosphere across just fine. Then again, opinions on that are personal.

Remember the Beta B-Roll footage is only 1280x720 in the raw press kit and even it represents an unfinished game.

It will, no doubt blizzard will release a game with superior graphics. The game was in development so they may not have implemented advanced graphic options yet. Or they could always do something like the crysis 2 graphics update (not sure how that worked out, only heard about it). But so far in 2011 video games have only increased in quality of graphics, not decrease.

That would be nice if they changed things for the better. These days taking away and simplifying features= THE HOT NEW SHIT YOU SHOULD LOVE THIS for devs.

Good thing this doesn't apply to Diablo 3. The customization options blow away anything Diablo 2 was capable of.

Sure they do. At this point it really will have to wait until the beta.

Hey guys, we recently became aware that Diablo 3 is up for pre-order on Amazon. If you don't mind not getting a digital copy, you can buy it online and help support TL from our store. Usually Amazon offers release-day shipping which means it ships early and arrives the same day it's released, however since they don't know the release date, it isn't available yet so you may want to wait until the date is announced.

Gonna waste so many hours in this game .

If I was 10 years younger (read stupider) and only read small snippets of what they're doing, without taking the time to watch the interview videos to understand their reasoning behind their decisions, I'd probably be sitting on forums complaining in big capital letters, too.

It's just sad that some people have the time to complain, but they don't take the time to learn or reason behind it.

in all my time in the gaming scene i learned one thing:

people complain. unneccessarily. a lot. they'll complain about everything really. all the time. until they get used to the new and start to love it. it's the same everytime. it was like this for every counterstrike update, game balance (MMO/RTS), new game installments (sc2 got 3/5 stars on amazon, come on... you serious, crowd?)

and it NEVER stopped annoying me :D

diablo3 looks SOOOOOOOOOOO DAMN SMOOTH. you can SEE in the trailer that it will feel good to play. compare to path of exile. the gameplay looks horrible in comparison.

Will you also be offering D3 from european shops such as amazon.co.uk once they are up and a release date is in sight?
If so, I'll totally preoder from here like I did with SC2 and hopefully every future expansion for it. ESPORTS!@!!!

Yes! It needs to be dark, mysterious, but folksy sounding. I hope it's not "epic fantasy dragons and knights paladins of the light gloriously slaying undead". Wow-like might not be a horrible thing, I actually felt the wow expansion packs had relatively good music.

I don't mind a disney-like appearance as long as the content, story, and music all retain some grit (which i'm quite sure they will).

I think it's pointless to argue about how much customization D3 might lose by adding or removing something. From what I've heard, there are already at least several trillion builds using different combinations of whatever six skills you use, the skill runes on them, and the three passives you choose.

Who really cares if you have five trillion possibilities instead of six. As far as I'm concerned we will all die of old age before we are even able to experiment with one billion builds, let alone a trillion. The game looks damn fun. That's what matters.

That is actually something that most companies don't understand, every player input needs to have a reaction in the game or player's will get frustrated quickly.

I lost interest in D3 when they announced the PvP arena system.

However the auction house sounds interesting.

I myself was a TPPKer in D2X HC, and it was a lot of fun. HC was so amazing, once you play it you never go back, although only about 1% could withstand it. It got so bad that you would need hacks (anti-drop hack) just to play, because if you didn't you would be drophacked and pk'd (literally 100% of the time), and as Hardcore went, if you died, your character and all it's gear and stash was erased (no ghost to get your body rofl). Which sucked when Warden banned everyone on HC.

HC was just brutal and a lot of fun. Pking people who were ballsy or dumb enough to be in a public game trusting a high level. The level of paranoia and distrust, as well as bravado was just somethign I had never seen in a game. I heard they made something where people have to accept being Hostiled now, so I don't know about it anymore. But PvP arena sounds really lame to me.
