Friends, let us rejoice and sing sweet songs about the glorious game we shall all get the chance to play. It looks fucking magnificent!!!
I seriously CANNOT WAIT to play this. It looks like a game to really redeem the series! They've just put their hands in the air and said fuck it people, we're going to make this game right if it takes a goddamn decade. We don't care what everyone thinks along the way, it'll be worth it in the end.

looks like a bizarre fusion of advent children and dark souls. The FF fan inside me is put off intensely, but the gaming fan inside me is fairly excited.

Looks more like Devil May Cry than Final Fantasy, but I'll still get it (enjoyed Dirge of Cerebus).
Shame for old school JRPG fans though.

I think I'm gonna miss the tactical / party based combat system... Still hope the game is good...
The main hero looks like a complete bad ass though!

They renamed it to FF 15 now?
Interesting, I haven't enjoyed a FF game since 10 though..
is it going to be on PC?
|
Debating buying a ps3 just for this. Been waiting so long.

though this looks nice and all... I seriously wonder why they even bothered naming it final fantasy

No.

It will be on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Because they can.

I'm struggling to understand what exactly you might be referring to. What about the game makes you think this way? Is it just because the game isn't turn based? If that's all...I'd really recommend that you take a gander at Crisis Core on the PSP. Anyone who enjoyed that game will certainly love FF 15

Could you elaborate a bit on why your inner FF fan is put off by what we've seen of the game so far? I''m seeing this attitude pop up a bit here lately and its not one I really understand.
My inner FF fan has a rock-hard boner just thinking about this game. I feel like this game might revitalize the series in a really big way.
For me, FF is more about how epic the story and music are as opposed to rigid adherence to a strict formula for game-play. In the end its really pretty simple for me: a good story, told well, and with great music and presentation = me likey very much

Game looks fucking nice. I hope all magic looks as nice as that Fire spell. I also approve of the KH-style combat system. I do kind of like the hybrid turn-based/RT systems we've seen in FFXII and FFXIII, though, although I really wasn't a fan of not being able to control a character directly in combat in XIII

Well, why do they call any of them Final Fantasy? The first one made sense because it was all or nothing. The rest are simply because they can and it's the same style and genre for the most part.

Yeah I get that. What I don't get is why he seemed confused about them naming THIS game Final Fantasy. He seemed to be implying that there was a significant enough departure from the series to merit a different name. Or at least that is what it seemed to me

Daaaamnn, the gameplay looks really fluid, too fluid even maybe.

Because its just not FF, like someone said earlier, it looks like devil-may-cry. Someone else i know said the exact same thing, and it summed up my thoughts exactly.
FF is known for its JRPG gameplay, 12 and 13 went way off the bat with it and got worse each time (12 was good, but extremely different, 13's gameplay was shite in most opinions) they could have taken 13, made it so that you have to control your entire party not just one person (SO easy to do btw.) but instead they went "Fuck tactical / turn based, ACTIONNNNN" and here we are, staring at a Devil-may-cry like battle.
If you value FF for its story telling, then i dont know where you've been, the story telling has been going down-hill for a LONG time. (Last good one was X imo, and everyone fucking hated that. 12 was bland in everyones eyes, only the beginning saved it along with gameplay) 13 was wtf cheese and hard to comprehend (not in a FF8 good way either). 13-2 was just what in the living fuck. 13-3 is looking to be even more bullshit.
Dirge of cerberus and Crisis core were awesome games, but for me they were carried by FF7's epic storyline and the fact that they tied in with it. They werent true FF games, they were spinoffs which is where this game belongs. Excellent games, but not Main-series FF.
Also crisis core battle system would be considered trash on a main system, it worked on psp, nothing more, DoC's battle system was shoddy too, i should know i spent way too much time playing it.
The fact is, this game DOES look amazing, but its not Final fantasy at heart. Resurrecting the FF series? With an action game? You make me giggle my friend and are symbolic of everything wrong with the current generation of gamers and old-timers mindsets.
I go back to my previous statement, they took FF13's system and stripped it of everything that resembled the old FF games. They should have taken FF13's system and re-added those old crutches. FF13 with party control, all it needs is a UI adjustment and a decent camera.
Instead we got an awesome looking action game, with most likely a mediocre story, if the recent FF's are anything to go by.
TL;DR - The game looks fucking epic, but not FF. I will be playing it though!

jRPG is such a meaningless term now. Originally it was a menu-based RPG system, but then the Tales games and Star Ocean games changed that. Ever since then, the definition of a jRPG has blurred more and more that I wonder whether there even is a point in distinguishing them between jRPGs and wRPGs now. Dark Souls and Demon Souls are jRPGs, but they're very much so wRPG in look and feel.

WUT, both DS games do not feel western in the slightest. At least to me. Not a single western game has ever captured the feel from that game and it feels altogether asian to me. Just the gameplay and difficulty make it so
And sorry, my definition of JRPG is actually the traditional FF battle system, that ended with X.
