Out of the years I've been on Teamliquid (seven or so), this is probably the best article done by anyone, that I've ever read on the website. My hat goes off to Ver, as he truly is a Brood War analytical genius (he's like all the Korean commentators thrown into one Western mind).

Can't wait for Part 2, my guess is that it will be on Savior's ZvP.

Amazing article! I wish my level of play was higher so that I can anaylze the small things progamers do. Makes bw such a deep strategical game that no other game has or will ever come close to. This article just made me realize SC2 still has a long log way to go in terms of gameplay if it wants to catch up to it's predecessor. Again, amazing article, and long live broodwar!!!

Exceptional article (and holy long pages batman!) and looking forward to part 2.
I used to be a huge albeit quiet Savior fan, after the scandal though I didn't know if I could really take any part of his record seriously.
How far back did his cheating tendencies go? What stats could really be believed? I'm not sure these questions can every really be answered for me. However this write up beautifully underlines why he changed the game and effected play on a number of levels and that can't be argued as possibly fake or faulty due to his unfortunate ethics.
Not many articles do I reread but I plan to for this one again tomorrow.

I came into BW right as Bisu defeated Savior. My little brother (always more curious about video games than I was) had discovered the proscene about a week before the finals. He told me about "Boxer" who was "considered the greatest ever". Then he was trying to tell me about the best player at the time. Some guy name Savior who was about to play a guy named bisu for "one of the biggest tournaments in the world". Savior was, he told me, the best player ever to play the game. I knew nothing but was very hyped anyways, but it was at an unreasonably late time anyways. The next morning I awoke to the biggest upset of all time. The first live reports I read were about this kid Bisu who crushed the greatest Zerg of all time. Since then I have been a Bisu and BW fan.

But without his dominance none of the above would have happened. I would never have read about the defeat of Savior. I would never have discovered any of this wonderful pro-scene or quickly lost interest anyways. So savior. Thank you. For all of this journey that has been my e-sports following.

Reading this makes me fuckin sad. Savior was so damn good at this game and it was him and Bisu that got me into SC:BW and eSports in general. Fuck you Ma Jae Yoon. If only he didn't do such stupid things and kept innovating...I mean...THESE GAMES D: He was so dominating in his games in his prime it's not even funny.
