[EVER OSL FINALS] Tushin Park Sung Jun "In next season's selection, I will pick the best terran player"
- You obtained the Golden Mouse by winning 3 finals ▲I have previously states in my previous interviews that with wins comes the Golden Mouse. I have not tried to win in order to obtain the golden mouse. It is actually the same thing but I believe the meaning is different. Anyways I tried my best and I am happy that I won.
-You showed very fear some all-in strategies ▲My belief in best of 5 series is not skill but your mind. That is why I 5-pooled in my first game. I have lost 0:3 in my 2 previous finals through all-in strategies by the opponents. Because of those attacks I remember I was unable to focus. That is why I used it against my opponents this time
- You showed very strong match ups against protoss ▲Because I am a zerg player I believe I am strong against Protoss. I have always been strong against protoss. Although I said I was confident in winning 3:0 I really wasn’t (laughs). I believe I am strong against protoss because of my confidence.
-In your 3rd match Andromeda weren’t you at a disadvantage? ▲I was not really at a disadvantage. I was able to kill corsairs easily with scourages. I just patrolled my scourages but the corsairs suicided into my scourage. If the protoss has many corsairs it is hard to defeat them. I made many more scourages since corsairs are scarier than reavers.
-You attempted a drone-drill in game 2 ▲I prepared for game 1 and 3 and did not really prepare for game 2,4, or 5. I lost too many times in maps for game 2,4, and 5. In game 2 of Best vs Luxury, Best’s build was very weak towards the drone drill. This is why I used the strategy.
-During your stay in SK Telecom your record against best was 5:5 ▲During that time the 5:5 record would be the result of normal games. If Best played if it were normal games today, I probably would not have won easily. However, today was the Finals where mind-control was very important, which is the reason why I believe I won.
-Because of your 2 waivers, you had a rough time. ▲There were many unfortunate events. I thought of quitting programming at an early age. However, my parents told me “It isn’t the time yet, try a bit more”. After moving to STX, the coaches and the players treated me very well. I quickly befriended my teammates and played numerous games with them. STX is a very nice, the coaching staff isn’t bad as the rumors. I think my personality fits with the team.
-People say you were lucky with the lack of terrans in this season ▲To tell you the truth I think I really was lucky. To be a zerg and not meet any terrans is already accomplishing half of your goals. However, to the people who believe I won the OSL because of luck is like insulting the players I have beaten. The players I have beater were players who have beaten terran players. To insult me is like insulting the players I have beaten. I still think that I was lucky.
-You have good jinx of winning when it is hot ▲I play well when my hand is sweating. That is why I turn off the air-conditioner in the booth when I play. Because my play is better when it is hot, I believe my records are better too during the summer. I was able to win during the month of July(laughs)
-You are the first STX member to win ▲STX does not pressure me on bit. They tell me to relax and play like how I always play. Since the 3 months I been in the team, they have not pressured me one bit. They have not forced me to play, and all my practices were voluntarily. This also helps me to become a better player.
-Your next season’s goal ▲Confidence is always the best. However if you lose horribly after winning, it becomes a troublesome situation. First, I want to beat a lot of terran players. In the next selection, I would like to pick the strongest terran. However, I cannot pick my teammate Hwasin. I have lost too many times to Hwasin, and his TvZ match-up is too good.
-Your last words ▲My next goal is to win tomorrows Proleague playoff game. I will practice harder to win the proleague and also try to win next season’s OSL. Although I have won, I do not think I am the best. It is different from what I previously thought. I believe I have more to learn and try to win next season. I will be perfect if I win next season. My ultimate goal is to be recognized with players such Boxer and Nada.
Edit: Oops this should be in the Tourneys section huh? Mod please move >_< sorry for the trouble!

Thanks Awesome Interview.
July is so honest, very in depth.
interviews are normally in the Brood War section so its ok.
|
What a class act. I only discovered starcraft last fall, when July was slumping, but I watched many of his older vods and chose to play zerg (poorly) because of him.
Then I found some old interviews he had given, and his understanding of the game was so impressive yet humble, 'Predicting that he would become less dominant as people came to understand his style of play'. Now he promises to choose a strong terran, his worse matchup. His love for the game and competition is beautiful.
Thanks to Klazart for helping me discover so many players, July included. Seeing him succeed now is incredible.

great interview and yes, this is in the right place
|
Thanks for translation <3

He's a real champion, even if I wanted Best to win. Also of note, I do hope he manages to take a few games from Hwasin in the near future. : p
|
Thank you.
Yes, I'm back thanks to July
And don't forget these:
Bisu
Kingdom
|
Respect. The thing that really stood out was him saying that saying that he won because of luck is like insulting his opponents. Shows how much of a class act he is.
|
See, even he admits that JULY IS HIS MONTH.
|
Class act. He even has words for those who thought he had an "easy" road to the Golden Mouse. Gotta respect the guy.
Thanks for the translation.

Just by saying these two things, you are already recognized with players such Boxer and Nada in my book. Job well done July! What a victory!

wow, good interview! thanks for the translations
also, what is meant by class act?
|
Thanks for the translation!
Excellent interview and July shouldn't worry! He's already one of the best zerg players of all time.
He was very well prepared for BeSt.
|
much love, much much much love !!!
|
wow great interview from the champion!
|
thanks for the translation!! what are the rumors of bad STX coaching that July mentions?
|
Aotearoa39261 Posts
yea good question =/ im interested as well.. any korean want to help us out :D!
|
He doesn't think he is recognized with the likes of BoxeR and NaDa? If he really wasn't before, then he is now with the fact that he's the most successful progamer in the OSL ever and the Golden Mouse. This win will probably boost July to maybe even win the next OSL/MSL. I want to see a NaDa vs. July OSL final for the fourth OSL badge.

He is saying that he was lucky to not face any terran, but he did not win the OSL due to luck. The difference, of course, is that you could argue that even if he faced terran, he had a fair chance of winning the OSL regardless, aside from the potential pitfalls of Hwasin and Flash. But if he won because of luck, that's saying he didn't deserve to win, instead lucking out, which, as he said, would also be an insult to everyone he beat. The latter case is more-or-less what people are saying about Backho. And that sort of thing is what July took offense to.

Park Sung Jun FTW!!! I love you fat guy!!! Thanks a lot for the translation, Fantasy!
|
so awesome, gotta be happy for him
|
His insights show that he wasn't trying to "cheese" and "luck out" in the finals. He had strategic reasons for doing risky builds, especially since he detected a weakness in BeSt's early game on Troy. God of War indeed!
|
Thanks for the translation SiZ.FaNtAsY
Great interview. Great games. Great manner. I used to hate all zergs without exception (its how I was brought up ) but I'm officially a July fan now.
|
playing better with sweaty hands? now thats something new and AWESOMEEEE
|
|
I have always enjoyed watching cheese tacs, they are so exciting.. Hoping to see more!
|
great interview. LOL at bisu's face, he couldn't believe July was so easily owning Best!

What an amazing series btw, even though it was 3-0.

Nice interview. July is... good ol July.
Next OSL, Best will win. I believe in the guy.
|
-During your stay in SK Telecom your record against best was 5:5 ▲During that time the 5:5 record would be the result of normal games. If Best played if it were normal games today, I probably would not have won easily. However, today was the Finals where mind-control was very important, which is the reason why I believe I won.
?
Is this practice record or SKT internal tournaments or what ? I find it hard to believe they only played 10 practice games alltogether during Julys time there, and also that they track records of practice games. They havent met in any official leagues before this final.
Thank you very much for the interview Fantasy, really appreciated

dno it seems like a korean tradition to measure things based on 10 games, i'd interpret that as 50% winrate

So many people favoured Best (even though liquibet favoured July, a lot of those votes were out if hope, not conviction). It's great that this 3-0 victory proves the nay-sayers wrong!

Wait, so... was something lost in translation here? because p > t, and he didnt have to fight t. so he only fought p, his zvp is good so hes lucky.

A Nada vs July OSL Grand Final would easily be the most awesome thing to ever happen. I think it's possible too, given how July came back, and Nada's come back a dozen times too. Both are just such great players it's incredible. Easily my favourite Zerg/Terran of all time.

thx for the translation! GJ July! Must be nice to win 3rd OSL and Golden Mouse in july if your aka is July :D

savior will win the next OSL!

Here comes... the OSL curse again, July will now start slumping :D.
|
yeahhhh psychological game
BeSt's minerals were over 2k at one point in the 3rd game
...minerals always under 400, ha! my ass
|
Wow I respect July even more after that interview. He sounds like such a down to earth and nice guy.
|
Whah, respect. Nice to see his take on the whole mind-game part, and the interview exudes maturity. Glad to see he found a warm nest at STX.

Now we're back to PvZ is Imba. Poor Bisu failed to solve anything.

He use anything new per say.
Everyone knows about 5 pool, drone drill, etc. It's just he used it in the finals brilliantly.
Come to think about it many players have used a few all-in/cheese builds to win it as he stated to gain a psychological advantage.
Comes down to how use the maps strategically and studying your opponents builds.

i found it really interesting that he was saying that he learned that breaking down your opponent in early rounds can lead to victory through personal experience in his 0:3 really showed experience helping him i was truely impressed that he took something like that away from an osl defeat and used it to help him gain another title

I was cheering for Best but if there was a time to lose it was this OSL.
