Honestly he lost all three of those games purely from not knowing what herO was doing.

g1 was a risky build, he should have just played standard. g2 he outplayed herO for most of the game but didn't see the oracle DT counter coming, but that's something that's unrepeatable. g3 he didn't realise that herO was essentially going allin and split up his army while trying to expand

I am so upset right now... It should have been Zests comeback to the big stage, 0-3 against herO what the ****...

He looked so sharp on the stream recently, now my weekend is ruined!

Well, I don't think Zest played badly today at all. He played well in fact. No silly mistakes or random failed cheeses. herO just played better. Game 2 was a stroke of genius from herO. Again, this loss shouldn't be much of a surprise as this year has been horrible for Zest. Doing well in the ladder is not a substitution for offline results.

Best of luck to Zest next year. I hope he will come back strong.

Game 1 was basically a failed cheese. I know he didn't really make any mistakes but it was a poor build choice, he should have just tried to play standard. Game 3 was lost from stupid mistakes like not scouting what herO was up to, Zest had the worst possible response to an allin attack you can do (split of part of your army and try to expand)

I don't think there's much he could have done better in game 2, it was just bad luck that his pheonixes didn't catch the pheonixes/oracles of herO. The results may not give the impression but he certainly played better than he has for most of the year anyway

Remember how Mvp dominated hard in 2011, was still fairly relevant in 2012, won the first big thing in the new expansion and then faded away due to his injury?

I think Zests career is following a similar path, although the reason he is fading away is not injury but a handicap of not having a proper team structure built around him

If by "fairly relevant" you mean winning a GSL playing mostly his weakest matchup and reaching another finals during BL/infestor then yes. Mvp was fairly relevant. God people forget so fast.

That is exactly what I meant.

Hero just beat sOs 3-0 as well. He's insane right now doing all the little things to get the edge in games.

Zest did not play badly he just is not as good as Hero who is in top form. Hero is in comparable form to what he was at his peak in 2015 when he was clearly the best player over the course of that whole year.

Despite being an elite player in ladder Zest is simply not at the level of the top Korean players this year.

Still 2 opportunities this calender year. Master's coliseum 2 and another Homestory cup after Blizzcon.

My weekend is not ruined yet. If Alabama loses to Mississippi it will surely be ruined.

Let's remember what this tournament is. 32 of the best players in the world. 29 of them Korean. Elazer, Namshar and Time were the only non Koreans.

Zest made the rd of 16 so he made the top half of that group. Solar, Byun and Elazer did not. All things considered not a bad showing by Zest. Perhaps we are setting the bar a little too high and forgetting this is a player who was struggling mightily for much of the year. From not even qualifying for GSL 3 to a top 16 is progress.

I have a question for your Zest fans. Hypothetical.

Zest in December signs with Psistorm gaming and moves to the USA to become a circuit player. I imagine he would live in LA, there is a very large Korean neighborhood there. True would be his guide for getting acclimated.

Where do you think Zest would be ranked in the circuit? Zest is tied with Losira for 32nd in total WCS points and his 1400 points would put him 13th among circuit players.

How would Zest have fared playing against circuit players who are obviously not as good and not as deep? Would he have done better than other Protoss like Showtime and Drogo who missed Blizzcon?

Would being on a team like Psi storm give him some structure and support that would make him a little better? Obviously not like a Korean team house but Psistorm has many decent to good players based in the US that would provide good practice and help.

Again purely hypothetical. Zest's English is not good enough to consider such a move but we have seen quite a few Koreans move to the US or Europe and it furthered their careers, allowed them to be more competitive while also being well compensated.

Is this part also hypothetical or actually true

He would absolutely destroy any foreign terran and protoss (except for maybe Neeb), some of the zergs could probably beat him, but seeing how he would end up playing against Z 80% of the time anyway, he'd likely improve

I think Zest makes the final 8 and goes to Blizzcon as a circuit player. Might be the back half the the 8 much like True but he makes it and he would benefit some from being on a team.

Well yeah but that's not saying much. Most of the Circuit top 8 are GSL ro32 players as well. If any top dogs from korea like Stats, TY, Inno, soO, Maru, Dark etc went over to circuit they'd be winning events without losing any maps

I think it's difficult to say. Remember that Innovation once move outside Korean and only have normal results.
