 What is actually the difference? Smarties are slightly smaller, with a thinner candy shell? I could probably google this... ETA: Ok I did google it and I was completely wrong, Smarties are wider and have a thicker shell >_< They are thinner though! | ||

TBH about 90% of the difference in terms of the two candies boils down to one thing: ET: The Extra Terrestrial. M&Ms got in on that and rode that cash cow spaceship all the way to the bank.
