Garbage series overall. Yeah at least trade with the armie you have there because it's super effective at that point anyway. I guess "respect the creep" ?! And yeah the series was awful :/ He had banshees vs nothing that shoots up, fight should have been a stomp tbh. And even if it's not a stomp you just can't give Zerg the time to tech to everything they want. No matter if you play bio or mech. And then next game he pulls back the reaper for no reason. This series was the essence of going full TY. Can't even be happy for soO after such a bad series. It was a decent bait by soO, sending in the lings at the time the reaper would leave to bait it back. If TY didn't fall for it he would have scouted the ravengers and held it 100%. It was a dumb reaction by TY. He had a marine and pulled an SCV from his main, that's 100% enough to keep the SCV building the CC alive. The only reason to pull back the reaper is to guarantee the kill on the lings. That's too greedy against soO. Because soO is really not afraid of going all-in. Also he didn't go pool first in any game except the one he cheesed in. That should have been a tell for TY.

To me at least, I really didn't like his decision to go for Mech on Echo, the third game. Good map for Mech but then TY is not known for Mech. He is much stronger with Bio and also soO is quite good at Mech even without swarmhosts. I really think if TY went to Bio for that map, he would get out 3:0 soO given it is impossible to get 4th and 5th bases for Z that map if you keep bio pushing and the Z just bleeds out to death eventually. It's fine to go mech one game in a BO5 on the best mech map. Especially when you're up 2-0. He just didn't play the game out very well. Also mech and variations of it is pretty much all TY plays on stream.
And in the last game he made big 2 mistakes while soO made 0.

I kind of figured that he went for Mech just to be unpredictable a bit. But frankly, with how he planned out the group stage selection (evil genius really), I thought he would be more practical and just do anything to win. Like Inno said "I don't care about fun matches. I just want the prize money."
I'm super happy that soO moved on but I can't help it but feel bad for TY. He just can't win a Korean tier 1 tournament after being a progamer for so long. Always came very close but failed short. It gotta hurt.

You know, I was thinking his group at IEM was gonna be super easy for him to take 1st.
And then ESL added Stats.
So now he actually has competition for 1st place. I wonder how TY feels about playing jjakji since I assume jjakji used to be one of his main practice partners for all the great TvTs he's played in LotV.

Although I think we shouldn't think Stats is invincible PvT just because he beat INno. After all it could very well have been a 3-0 sweep by INno.

I mean he kinda kicked Stats' ass in the Ro16 in GSL. Still, he went from "basically guaranteed 1st" to "any loss could mean getting 2nd or even 3rd".
With TY's horrible track record of always being in bad form and or getting sick at the start of tournaments outside of Korea I wouldn't be surprised at all if he doesn't get 1st now.

Stats will put up one hell of a fight is my prediction. After beating Inno he's got to feel like PvT is his game. Also Neeb is no slouch in PvT either. TY will have to work for his place.

Of course, that's assuming TY actually shows up in good condition.

He was so terrible today. Thank god he doesn't have to play tomorrow and can take some rest.

Totally not a good day for some top players. herO crashed out early. TY barely made it. Neeb was like dying so badly.

I think he got distracted for a moment and because he was so tired he didn't realize he didn't shift-click the medivacs to safety and was too slow to do anything about it.
|
He definitely looked tired. Hope he feels better on Saturday.
Does anyone know how they do the brackets? Who might he go up against?

Does anyone know how they do the brackets? Who might he go up against? Well he'll play a 2nd place finisher in the Ro12. So far we only know Ryung. And then it's also a question of whether they draw the bracket, or have predetermined matches (e.g. A vs B, C vs D)
|
Yea... There is nothing on the IEM website. Maybe they wont show it until all groups are finished.
|
Deserved 3-1 vs Zest in the Ro12. A win against GuMiho in his next match is worth a lot of money and WCS points. Hope he's ready.
|
He can do it for sure. But gumiho is a scary opponent

Granted TY when he's playing at his best is like the best TvT player, but he's not been totally at his best so far and GuMiho will have prepared for him. And GuMiho is in really good shape this tournament.

Yeah i think it's basically 50:50. We will see

I just got home - can someone sum up the TY vs Zest games I missed please?

Game 1: Zest masses up phoenix/adept, never transitions, TY kills him with a late game army Game 2: TY kills Zest's 3rd nexus immediately with 6 marines, Zest takes another one and masses up phoenix/adept, TY move commands his army into the adepts and loses a won game Game 3: Zest masses up phoenix/adept (literally until max), never transitions, TY kills him with a high tech late game army Game 4: Zest goes stalker/colossus, TY denies his 3rd forever with a tank push, eventually Zest takes a big fight with no warp prism to reinforce and loses because TY pulled 40 SCVs into the battle.
