He easily got the best group, did well by DRG too moving him from group D, and it's not like Stats was going to be in a much better position than he is now. He is a much better chance at moving from that group. I think he has a good chance vs. both Cure and Zest. Maybe if he had have been last picked and gone to group D while DRG was still there, but surely he would have been picked before Rogue. I wonder what TY had in mind originally? Also I don't know what Special was really thinking, as he had a pretty good situation no matter what... [In case you didn't see the group selection TY had exactly what he wanted having chosen Scarlett and then her choosing Special. Special was meant to choose someone like Dream, but chose Stats just to throw a curveball] I think TY expected Special to choose Dream, and then he could've swapped out Special for DRG (though that puts Special in a pretty bad place). That would've also been a better setup for DRG as well.

TY will have to do something special tomorrow just to make the loser's bracket in the next part of the tournament. I hope that it's because he doesn't want to show anything a few days out from GSL, but after watching a lot of Cure's matches recently (eg. 5-0 vs Solar yesterday), among others, it just felt as though TY's feel for the recent meta was well off. He got very unlucky vs Bly in game 2, with the command centre and bunker and it seemed a terrible build to do again from Bly. Meh, it happens. Game 3 though was such a throw. He just sat back and expanded slowly, when he was so ahead in army supply. He let Bly get to 6 bases to 4, and then Bly took out his 4th and he didn't counter-attack. That was the game there. Before that he was very indecisive with his aggression, not really searching for better angles, around side bases, and unwilling to make a strong frontal push, which would probably have been effective given the supply differential. Perhaps he played the image of Bly as much as anything, but he is a top calibre player, who should be simply moving out against someone like that and punishing. In game 1 vs Solar, his really obvious 3 base (pretty much) all-in, looked almost like an overreaction to getting his hellions surrounded. I have no idea why he left them there while he focused on the banshees. Game 4 was a bit of a build order loss, but he stayed out on the map for a very long time. 2 rax proxy that is countered has a transition, yet he got all of his marines caught outside of his base. From that point Solar knew that TY would have to overreact to his roach/ravager push and then he had the resources to prepare for the desperation counter all-in. It felt as though he played into Solar's hands in both games, not showing patience to play his way out of tough situations. (I wouldn't say he had much chance after the marines went down--it was more about how he played his way out of the 2 rax shut down) Strange day! Hoping that he is at his best tomorrow. I doubt if he does one of the 4 or 5 early BC opening variations he will be giving anything away for GSL, plus I think at the moment it has a very solid transition to at least being even in the mid-game.

As for tomorrow, realistically the only way he gets out of the group now is some sort of tie at 2-3. He's not beating soO.

It's actually quite possible for him to still make it. Losing 2-1 and winning 2-0 was the best worst-case scenario. Assuming he beats uThermal he just needs Solar to beat Bly and one of Scarlett or uThermal and if Solar gets the job done against uThermal then he's pretty good. A few what-ifs, but assuming the two other Koreans keep coasting (highly likely) it's not that hard to imagine. The more TY games the better! Fingers crossed... That season finals group does look very good. Two very winnable TvTs and a 50/50 opponent as well.

That said it was only the 3rd most important event TY plays in this week so I think he feels pretty whatever.

I definitely think TY sometimes gets a little overconfident and takes it easier than he would have (probably a little bit like when he gets 2-0 up). Winner of group B will be a super challenge and he will no doubt come in good condition.

I'm going to go for Inno, because I've got a lot more confidence in his TvT than TvZ after the last few days. (obviously I would most prefer Bunny, but I'm being realistic about who will get out in first). I'd favour him vs Inno on recent form for sure. I've seen a fair few games, and he's a bit vulnerable (he was 0-6 or 0-7 vs Dream in the last few weeks at some stage and dropped a series vs Time.)

Also - after the win over Special, TY now has a 70% TvT winrate in Code S!

In regards to underestimating opponents - not the first time, won't be the last. Remember that time TY got eliminated in the Ro32 last year? Yeah, he said he didn't take his opponents seriously. So I guess from that perspective this isn't the worst thing that could have happened ![]()

Also, I seem to remember Artosis quoting TY as having possibly the best ever GSL win rate over all and in TvT in particular, in the lead up to the recent final. I could check back on the VOD, and it’s possible I misinterpreted it, but I was pretty impressed and a little surprised. He’s been super consistent and has a ridiculous success rate up to ro8s and plenty of 3-2 losses in them. I’m not sure where to find this stat though. I had a little look around liquipedia and alligurac, But didn’t find anything.

Also I think it's better for TY ultimately that the group went the way it did. Imagine if Special beats DRG (it was pretty close after all) and TY then wins the group 4-0 on a poor day and keeps taking it easy because it worked. Better to have a rude awakening today than in the Ro8.

He kinda threw the series against TIME, pretty sure he'd win a rematch.
