Name: 김동원 (Kim, Dong Won) DOB: April 16, 1991 (Age 22) Race: Terran Team: Nicknames: The Terran Sniper, 참치테란 (Tuna Terran) [his first name 동원 is also the name of a notable canned tuna manufacturer in Korea] TL Links: Liquipedia - Ryung / TLPD - Ryung Twitter: @AxRyung
One of the notable members of the SlayerS terran line, Ryung first rose to prominence in GSTL March during the oGs-SlayerS quarterfinal match when, as the second player to be sent out, managed to take down TOP and SuperNova, thereby recording a 2-kill and being selected as the match MVP. Since then Ryung has gained a reputation for his outrageous TvT skills.
On the back of his successful run at the GSTL he sailed through the Code A qualifiers and made his GSL debut during the May season. He made it to the semifinals and thus the Up and Down matches on his first try, but knocked back into Code A by the likes of MC and HongUn, and suffered yet another setback when he was eliminated in the Round of 16 in GSL July Code A by Tassadar. However, Ryung won the Wildcard tournament to fill Rain's spot in the Up and Down matches and then went 4-0 in his group (defeating MarineKing, Happy, Dream and FruitDealer all in convincing fashion) to secure his first ever Code S berth in GSL August.
In his first run at Code S in GSL August Ryung sailed through Group F, defeating StarTale_Trickster and TSL_aLive and advancing to the Round of 16 in 1st place. He secured a place in the Round of 8 by taking out ZeNEX_Puzzle 2-0, and lost a nailbiting series to StarTale's July 2-3.
Placing himself into Group B for GSL October, he ran over MarineKing and then edged out Bomber in one of the longest GSL matches to date to book a match against TSL_Clide in the Round of 16, to whom he fell in a close 1:2 series.
GSL 2011 LG Cinema 3D GSL May - Code A Semifinalist (Lost to Bomber 1:3) 2011 GSL Super Tournament - Quarterfinalist (Lost to MMA 1:3) 2011 Pepsi GSL July - Code A Round of 16 (Lost to Tassadar 1:2) Won Wildcard tournament (Defeated Luvsic 2:0) Advanced to Code S (4-0 in Up/Down Group A) 2011 Pepsi GSL August - Code S Round of 8 (Lost to July 2:3) 2011 Sony Ericsson GSL October - Code S Round of 16 (Lost to Clide 1:2)
This has taken way too fucking long. He's deserved it for quite some time, and I was hoping someone would make him a fanclub soon(I was too lazy to do it myself).
FINALLY! Sign me up! This has been so overdue, I was thinking about starting it myself, actually. (Though I wouldn't have been able to do it justice.) DEFINITELY one of my favorite players.
Ryung slams Puzzle 2-0 in the Round of 16, advancing to the Round of 8 in his first Code S run! He'll be facing Startale's July next, wish him all the best (-:
Game 1 against puzzle was quite entertaining! Go Ryung you can win the whole thing. I hope he gets a chance to play IM_MVP to avenge Slayers for MLG Anaheim!

I'm kind of hoping that Ryung gets MVP in the semi's and Polt in the finals to avenge some of Slayers defeats. Of course you got to be careful what you wish for because MVP and Polt are pretty scary.

Ryung has great TvT and he's in team Slayers. He gets to practice and theorycraft with MMA, Boxer, Ganzi, Taeja, Jys, and Lots so I think he can take on MVP and Polt. He would at least give us interesting strategy and good games.

I love how he is willing to challenge his teammates in GSL Individual League and his style is not boring but pure art
I completely agree. The LR thread for code S day 1 was very irritating to me. The Bomber v Ryung game was -excellent- and super high level TvT (no spoilers ;D). Meanwhile, half the people who voted "no, don't bother watching it" because they've failed to appreciate just how amazing that game was. /rage :3
Popping that celebratory champagne after MMA's Blizz Cup win like a bonjwa. This guy is hilarious, and I love how he just went up and took Huk's prize.
Ryung is an really funny guy and a great player. He has developed his other matchups very well and he looked very strong in code S this season, only barely losing two of his matches in a strong group.
I know people like MMA because he is a great player, but the joking remark "forgotten son" sometimes seems true, Ryung is a threat to just about any player in the world and has a good personality.
Haven't posted on TL in a while but comments saying SlayerS should disband (yeah I know they are there daily, haters gonna hate) and yet no talk of Ryung just brought a tear to my eye.

SlayerS dead, Ryung lost
For now. One day, SlayerS will rise from the ashes and occupy Code S once more. And the chosen one leading the charge will be SlayerS.Yamacha: The Forgotten Son.
as soon as i saw the news of SlayerS disbanding I figured Axiom would try to pick him due to his stay at the Bain's house. Glad to see him find a new home
Ryung to find some new motivation and obtain consistency? INCOMING NEXT TAEJA!?
I guess I should be signing up to this. Every single time I watch him play, there's really awesome games. Like the game vs DRG on whirlwind a while back, and now vs Flash.
Nice showdown of how much you need to outplay zerg to win very barely. Ryung play was super impressive, he should have stomped Curious in game 2 if the matchup made sense.
man, i have been sort of interested in ryung for a while, but he played such a positionaly brilliant series vs all of his zerg opponents. It was kind of jaw dropping. One of the things i noticed was how effective his drops were. They weren't overly sneaky but his army positioning was so strong that the zerg was scared to pull stuff to deal with it.
God I just love Ryung so much I really hope he can make Ro4 and I wish I could go to vegas now T_T also I wasn't planning on buy GSL vods this season but now I guess I have to...
Even though MKP's my favourite player, i love Ryung for his flash of brilliance, like that game with teh nukes and the seeker missile on whirlwind vs DRG on code S Season 3 Ro16 i believe ? Sign me up please
Start out with a bit sloppy first game, then little by little turn into being a total badass with 4th game almost perfect play. Can't wait for semifinals vs leenock or sniper Maybe some more whirlwind domination?
Ryung got so few fans... even thought a lot of people like MKP a huge emotional player, Kong, and come back kid... I hope to see our last ESF-terran player wins, the tuna terran even thought TvZ so tough!!!
Gogo Ryung!!!!
Also really hope to see a cooler fanpage x) photoshop & co!
I don't know why I've waited so long to do this, but sign me up for this fan club. I've always liked Ryung, and I lament his fate as the forgotten son of BoxeR. That being said, I'm glad he's coming back to do so well.
Hey guys! I'm actively looking for the drawing Ryung made of MMA on Paint an eternity ago (the one MMA looks like a pirate) I figured this was the best place where to look for it ... does anyone have a way to find it ??

This is getting srs @ 2-2... Watching on GOMTV.net is slightly behind the IPL twitch stream, but seems to lack the lag issues, and none of those obnoxiously loud Kingston / ASUS ads.

And use of the new higher quality GOM.tv stream :D

Don't get your hopes up. :\
But I do think that Ryung's move will definitely mean that in terms of public attention, he's the big winner of the night. Everyone will remember him tonight over the other 3 semifinalists, and in eSports, attention is huge. Hell, the fact that this fanclub only has 12 pages is a travesty!
Holy shit all these fools signing up because of Ryung's comment... so sad these people only paid more attention to Ryung when it satisfied their personal biases...
But seriously, RYUNG ;__; you did so well :D I was really impressed with your TvZ again and everyone here is really proud of you and supports you! I think you will do as well as this season again, maybe they will nerf zerg, maybe they won't but either way I am sure you will keep proving yourself as one of the best players in the world, never change!!! Fighting~~~

I don't know if I enjoy being called a fool when I have watched and liked Ryung for a long time, never signed up to his fan club since I never signed up to anyone's fan club, and more importantly when I really really don't see how you could possibly not have expected a wall of sign-ups after this.
But I guess you thought you would look smart posting this. It's kinda true, you do.

I haven't been this sad for Ryung since he lost to July in the ro8 last year and I was cheering for July at the time. I hope he doesn't let this weigh him down for too long and next season he claims victory.
Oh Ryung, I really wanted him to win that, but the rather hilarious comment he made will be remembered for some time. I don't know if it will stick more than say "Obama-toss," which has only kinda stuck to MC, but anyways, the guy has opinions^^
It's probably good he's on Axiom now, not just not-KeSPA. Either way, the guy's had quite the funny attitude for a long time. I'm reminded of when he referred to the imba Creator style protoss in an interview.

Anyways...
It is more along the lines of me pointing out that people are showing more support for him and coming into his fan club just to whine about imbalance and seeing him as a beacon to whine around. I don't like the fact that people do this, also I never accused anyone directly, if you came here only because of his comment and because you see him as a beacon of the "terran UP nerf Z and P now" battlecry then yes, I think you are a fool. It is up to you to include yourself in my comment. Did you pay more attention to his last comment, or his play during this tournament and maybe even farther back in his career?
Also again I did expect this, that is why I checked the fan club page. I still checked and even posted my comment because I was angry in an irrational way that Ryung had lost and that his frustration might attract negative attention to him. Well it turns out attention is still attention so he will get some more fans for setting himself apart... but I still think flocking to a guy because of an event like this is a bit sad (imo).
If you are internalizing my comment I can respond to you directly with the following. All I saw about you sign up comment is that you said "instant signup" I would normally assume because of your comment aimed at me that you have watched many of his games and you are feeling encouraged, by Ryung's narrow loss and his frustration, to show your support in a thread dedicated to him (his fan club) . But by looking at other comments surrounding your's it could have been assumed that your comment was a gut response to his final comment in game 5.
Either way this is too long because I am bored, but yeah it is good to know that you support Ryung and have done so for a while, he really deserves it. Hopefully we will be able root for him in many tournaments to come.
Also I actually don't know what to make of your final line O.o
On December 01 2012 16:53 MahE wrote: Even if you agree with Ryung, since when was whining from a progamer DURING A GSL SEMIFINAL MATCH acceptable behaviour?
It would be a lot more interesting if players would comment like this more, and show some personality. Also, this is his career and there was $40k on the line; he has every right to be frustrated by the current balance issues with late-game zerg.
I'm not sure if I really like what Ryung did or not. On the one hand, whining during semifinals games of such a tournament as GSL doesn't make him honor, but I like that at last somebody said the truth about current situation. On the other hand, Ryung took responsibility and risks to lose fans, to be punished for that etc. NaNiWa was severely punished for a less provoking behavior. Well, I think Ryung at least has some courage. And, also, I think that probably it force blizzard to think more about current situation, so Ryung makes service for us.
I'm just thinking that the whole situation is taken way too seriously in either way. Of course he's going to be pissed for losing in GSL ro4, and right after the loss it's not exactly easy to not put the frustration to words.
All in all, had no effect on my support - hope to see Ryung do as well in next season as well.
Ryung almost made it up for not winning the whole thing, and if gsl punish him, that's just fucked up, cause ryung brings the entertainement, this is gonna be talked about more than the finals itself...
Edit : I don't know why, but Ryung makes me think of stan marsh from south park... maybe they should stop forcing him to wear blue...
To be fair the slugfest he and Kennigit was funnier than the tweet itself.
Also the Xcom reference, fucking Thin Man snipers ruining everything when you restart. Critical hit from across the map on someone in full cover? Still more fair than TvZ!

I think at most he will get a warning, some player paused during a game in Code S (Cant remember exactly when) and Tasteosis mentioned he would get a warning but nothing more.
Sign me up. I'm a huge fan of anyone willing to say "IMBA" like it is at the GSL semi finals in Vegas. Maybe Blizzard will listen to a professional but probably not. Ryung rocks though.
Really sad to see that Ryung failed to qualify for Code S, it means that outside Clan Wars it's unlikely we'll see him until GSL Season 2 because he's not competing in Pro-League or anything.
It's real shame especially when you some of the games in WCS AM S1 last year where he crushed Polt and aLive with ease and hasn't really been able to hit those heights again since
Yeah. It must be pretty heartbreaking to not making into Code S when you've practiced so hard to get there and not even win series.
It also must be pretty demotivating that there's pretty much no tournaments in Korea to compete in apart from Pro-league and Korean qualifiers to foreign tournaments like IEM's are more stacked than the event. So if you're in that situation as a Korean programmer it must be pretty demotivating to not have much in the horizon to work towards.
In 30 min team IMBA (Ryung & MMA) will be playing in Archon showmatch against team PRANK (CranK & Patience) and team TRULY HYUNSTOPPABLE (TRUE & HyuN)!

As sad as I was that Soulkey lost; Ryung played like a god. If he keeps playing like that he's certainly on TYs level. I don't think Maru is quite there currently.
But if he plays someone from Group B... it better be Cure if he wants to advance.
After today I believe he can take anyone, with right amount of preparation. Maybe sOs would be tricky.
Dark will always be rough because he's the best Zerg, he's incredibly good. Preparing for a BO5 against sOs is probably hell. ByuN has Ryung's number online, for him it's a matter of showing up offline. Cure is definitely the weakest opponent for Ryung.

Well, yeah, he would be the best. Doesn't mean he can't beat others.

Ryung has been streaming a ton lately if anyone is interested in seeing mech lose horribly to carriers over and over again, jokes aside he has had some pretty entertaining games lately and its worth checking out
