This thread is not a discussion thread about whether X or Y deserves a fan club. Please leave that up to our moderators. If you want to change how we handle fan clubs then please make a thread in Website Feedback. Thanks! |

I have a feeling lindseys manager is just using the sc2 community as a tool to gain her some popularity. All of this 'interest' might very well be fake and meaningless, stop being tools. This fanclub has more credibility than the Slayers_Eve fanclub so I'm not sure why you're whining. At least Lindsey did a great job at NASL and made it worth watching despite all the waiting. She deserves more than a fanclub and if I was any good at sculpture I'd make her a statue. If the shit smells a bit better it doesn't make it any less of a shit, the people in that fan club are equally ridiculous, whether this fan club is slightly less ridiculous or not is pretty irrelevant. I truly feel sorry for everyone who signed up to this fan club because you have clearly lost your mind, there's nothing wrong with Lindsey but she has done absolutely nothing notable thus far.
So perhaps you could just stay the fuck out and not bother to comment in either thread? Your negative opinion isn't valued and your post isn't adding anything to a fanclub. Just because you disagree with Lindsey bringing certain stuff to Starcraft 2, doesn't mean you have to insult others who feel like she did.
She's a great energetic interviewer, very open etc. and very refreshing compared to the usual social awkward people interviewing.
The difference between this thread and Eve's is we've seen Lindsey and we've heard her, she has done something. Eve has not appeared in anything, the only thing we know about her is that she's a girl on the slayers bench who sits next to Cella. We don't know her personality or her skill.

seriously can we take all this bashing somewhere else... who cares if she has a fanclub. how is she different from an actress who thousands of people adore? people see her in a movie and they like her, start a fanclub. people see Lindsey interviewing on during NASL, like her and start a fanclub. stop being so bitter people, jeez

Ok so let me get this straight. We see a nice girl taking interviews at NASL, she is positive, attractive, funny (both due to her ignorance and the way she deals with it) and she shows interest in starcraft. Her interviews were funny and refreshing but she got a lot of hate the first day because of her ignorance and because she is "just hot".
However there are people in the community who liked her and maybe also felt sorry for her because she was clearly oblivious about the whole thing and was getting a lot of hate even tho she clearly was trying her best.
These people wanted to show support for her to let her know that the community wasn't just a bunch of haters and that gamers can actually be friendly and open. Luckily these responses far outnumbered the hateful responses during the first day. Things did get a bit out of hand I agree but it's hardly a bad thing that a nice girl who is trying her best to entertain us and shows interest in the game is getting support is it?
I don't see what we as a fans and members of her fanclub did wrong. I think most of us just wanted to show a different side of this community and show her that we are not just a bunch of angry nerds. On top of that she is just a really nice girl (from what I've seen during the interviews and her twitter/facebook posts). At first I became a member to show here that we as a community can also be friendly, open and positive (just like she approached us). Now due to her reactions on twitter and facebook and her interviews in general I am a genuine fan of her. You can say I'm a sex deprived nerd (I have a girlfriend but whatever) but I'm not just here because she's cute.
Apparently we shouldn't have shown our support for someone who tried to entertain us and give good interviews. Apparently we shouldn't have shown her that we are a friendly and open community who will welcome anyone who is positive and interested in starcraft. Maybe we should have just stayed silent while she was getting hateful responses even tho she was trying her best. Maybe we should have ignored her and dismissed her as ignorant. Maybe we should have told NASL to let someone from the community do the interviews. Maybe we should have told her to get the fuck out and never return?
I respect it if you think that we shouldn't be an open community and instead shut our doors to non players. I just don't agree with you. And yes this fanclub has gotten a bit out of hand and we here all agree she has done very little for the community. It will however not stop us from supporting her and telling her she is welcome in this community and it won't stop us from being a fan.
btw. Why would someone say someone else doesn't deserve support or fans? Doesn't that make you jealous or just an angry nerd? I don't see any other reason to hate on her, did she do anyone harm or did she try to "hurt esports". If you think someone else deserves more fans than yes that is probably true but should that stop us from being a fan of Lindsey or should those "fans" of the person that deserves them more make sure that person receives the same support? Also the only reason this has gotten so big is because people are hating on her.

Well written marsupian, i guess this is exactly the opinion of the most people who joined the fan-club it's just makes me a bid sad, that this was posted so many times in this thread and 1-2 pages after that, the hating and judging of the member in this fanclub and the question if she "deserves" a fanclub will start again :o
Edit: it was also mentioned at the first pages, that it could be only a job for her, and she won't get too much into it after her engagement with the NASL, but this would be just fine, maybe a bit disappointing, but in the end, I got entertained the last couple of days since the Nasl started and she was introduced to us.
|
Thanks Marsupian. I guess some people just can't grasp that whether someone deserves a fanclub or not is for the fans to decide.
|
Marsupian, that's a great post mate

Great post Marsupian
Sign me up as Lindsey's fan as well.
After 2 days of NASL and she is passionate about SC2, that's awesome. Good direction for e-sports in general
-cheers-

I've always felt that the term nerd is thrown around too much.

are people seriously pretending that this thread exists for any other reason than this girls incredible hotness?

@Marsupian: Your post would actually be "trustworthy"" if there was a fanclub for Seltzer, for Anna Prosser, for the interviewer @dreamhack that many people loved, for edward that does decent interviews, and also if the Fanclub for John the Translator was actually just as active as this one. Why can't you admit that you guys go nuts for the sole reason of her being an attractive girl?
I'm okay with this fanclub(apparently there is no other choice), but don't pretend like she was a great "giver" to the community. What would not exist if she wasn't there? What would we have missed if it wasn't her? What would we have not "enjoyed"? Nothing but her appearance. Nothing else than that she being an attractive young girl.
No she did not try to hurt eSports, but she also brought 0 value (if you think being attractive is actually something that you can count then you are ... weird? o.o) into the community, which equals doing NOTHING. Just look at the OP. A bunch of bad jokes and then just her looks, there is even a video about STYLING YOUR HAIR. AS A GIRL. W - T - F.
If this fanclub wouldn't be on teamliquid I wouldn't even be upset, but since when is this so appreciated by the community that is usually so strict about their people to love? This makes no sense, now we can all open our fanclubs for the same reasons given for THIS fanclub. "That red guy with the me gusta shield fanclub" "That dude screaming "LOOOL" in the audience fanclub" "Toilet paper fanclub" "Team Edward ! ! Edward Cullen fanclub" This is no "hate against Lindsay", this is hate against the ignorance of some people that can't admit their real reasons for doing something. It's not even hate. It's just annoying.
I just wanted you guys to know that - now, for community's sake I'll stop complaining so hard, but I had the urge to get this out. I hope the community won't have an Edward Cullen fanclub too soon.

They are attractive girls and they are also REALLY passionate about what they do, they give great things to the community. Yet, they have no fanclub. So the argument that Marsupian gave ( that people that give to the community get fanclubs ) is wrong.
Apparently, people don't find Seltzer and Anna Prosser attractive enough (which is okay because everything sees people different when it comes to appearance).

He didn't say that everyone who gives to the community gets a fan club. You aren't understanding the logic of his argument.
edit: Just to be clear, you can have a statement like "If a person has a legitimate fan club, then that person has contributed to the community." But that statement doesn't mean "If a person has contributed to the community, then that person has a fan club."
And getting fans shouldn't be exclusively about professional merit and success. In fact, that's one of the most frowned-upon reasons for being a fan. It's called being a "fair weather fan" and fans with different motivations don't like it. So Sporrer might not be the best interviewer in the world, but if fans of interviewers always liked only the best interviewer in the world, then there'd be no point in fan clubs.

I don't see any other points in his post, and by that logic I understand that for him, everyone that is giving something to the community should have a fanclub. Now, you CAN find her interviews great, but that doesn't stand against the effort Prosser and Seltzer made.
But if I'm wrong, please correct me. I'm able of being totally wrong!

She's entertaining and doesn't hurt anyone (but herself) in the process. Sign me up >:D

The qualifications to have a fan club are not "beat out every other female contributor" so that's why this is open. She clearly meets the standards to have a fan club so please stop arguing it.
There is nothing wrong with showing support for someone like Lindsey, I never understood how fans posting in a fan club and interacting would bother so many people. What is wrong with just an overall positive thing that doesn't affect you in any way? Why even worry about this and try to tear down the people or her?
If you're not a fan, don't post in here. Pretty simple if you ask me.

If one of the things you value is total amount of time and effort, then I can certainly see how you wouldn't be a Sporrer fan at this point. The bottom line is that there are lots of reasons why someone becomes a fan and just because you have different values doesn't mean that the only thing going on here is sex appeal.
