This thread is not a discussion thread about whether X or Y deserves a fan club. Please leave that up to our moderators. If you want to change how we handle fan clubs then please make a thread in Website Feedback. Thanks! |
Wow. 528 people listed in the fan club o_o. Hope she becomes a permanent member of the community for her to surpass nearly every fan club :p Maybe Anna needs a fan club?

It's a little strange that even Boxer's fanclub is only about half the size of this thread. No wonder it goes beyond 5 pages when 75% of the thread is people arguing if she deserves a fanclub or not... I was really only checking the last few pages to see if anyone had posted this yet... How can anyone bitching about how this fanclub is bigger than BoxeR's seriously NOT think about that? It seems like a fairly obvious conclusion that if people are arguing over whether she deserves a fanclub that's going to generate a longer thread. Doesn't mean she's more popular than BoxeR.

You seem to be offended about phrases like "I like cute girls" though, so I've tried to include them in most of my posts. I am a fan of InControl (maybe not subscribed). He's a great example because he got a lot of hate during NASL, though he has such a great passion for this game and is a very hard worker from what I know. I have called people out on negative comments on LR threads and stream chats before. New, different people coming into Starcraft aren't bad for the community. People throwing mud at those people "because they get more support than they "deserve"" are.(OMG double quotes o_O) That's what bad politicians do. We're in it for the same reasons (I think). P.S. Lindsey is cute. Don't get me wrong, I agree that Lindsey is cute and no I do not get offended by your "I like cute girls", imo it would be perfectly fine to show her all the love for her good looks on her facebook, some model page or whatever, I just do think it is unfitting in a StarCraft II Forum, hard to understand my point eh? It's fine that you're a fan of Geoff, that shows you actually have some interest in StarCraft II as well instead of "just girls". Coming into the community? Because she did some interviews she was paid for...? You know what a "hostess" is? That's Lindsey for you, not a community member. The only thing I can tell by her "yea this seems cool to me" and saying she'd try it out is that she isn't dumb at all, she saw a occasion and took it. But being naive enough to take that as passion/love/real interest in the game won't work for me, I'm sorry. It also just boosts the "nerds are desperate and lonely"-stigma which is what we do not really want to happen if us - the StarCraft community - wants to become a "real" sports. (As real as that gets, being a computer game.) Thus I will stay "negative" about that topic.
Yes. Because everyone knows cheerleaders in other sports don't support the same stigma.

Cheerleaders don't get enormous fanclubs from sports fans, at least not on the individual level.

How many people in this fanclub didn't like starcraft before they found out about Lindsey? Although I think a more apt analogy would be someone like Erin Andrews, a sideline reporter/interviewer known for being hot, and being worshipped by randy sportsfans.

I think a lot of this whining is pretty pathetic. Labelling the people in here and saying the only reason they like her is because she is hot is just dumb. I know it's fun being the "anti" guy but come on...
What did she do? First day, she went around and blundered into interviewing fans at an event when there was nothing else happening on the stream. I don't recall seeing someone interviewing the fans in the downtimes of the event and although it was kind of clear that she didn't really know anything about starcraft, it was still nice to see. Pretty funny too, but you could at least see had a positive energy for it.
Then everyone does some hatin'.
And then the next day happens. She's put the effort in and learnt some stuff of SC2 and now understands a little about the community and why we enjoy it. She watches the games and actually has some pretty good interviews with the fans about them and it was nice for someone new to starcraft chatting to people and being excited about it.
I'm a fan of hers because it was nice to see someone entering the world that is starcraft and from what I can tell, enjoying it. I like having something to watch and getting a better view of the live crowd and seeing their excitement too. If she goes to another event and does the same thing, what's the problem with that? I'd be happy to get a better idea of the live event, especially if the stream isn't going to show anything else.
Starcraft has been around for a hell of a long time. The things we have we already respect and have done so for years. We don't need to join Boxer's fanclub to be known as his fans. These fanclubs are to support the person. Isn't it allowable to support someone that's not only just getting into starcraft but getting involved as well?
Anyone that was thrown into what she did and then made an effort to get with the community would deserve support.
