Known for being a "practice bonjwa" in his BW days, PuMa was a rising terran star on both the eSTRO and Hite Sparkyz teams, and was a preferred practice partner of Flash himself!
This guy plays so intelligently when compared to other terrans besting them in scouting, positioning, macro, and preparation. With some of the best, fresh Terran play seen in a while, the sky is the limit for this young talent. Now a member of EG, this absolute monster boasts a 70+ win ratio in all of his matchups! Let's cheer this rising star on!

Get me in here! This guy is INSANELY good. I wouldn't be surprised if he won NASL with ease, even with MC there. Just look at his damn ELO. He's beaten Puzzle 4 times straight and he beat Sage 3 times in a row, then 2 times in a row later.
On July 07 2011 08:03 doihy wrote: Why was he a beast in bw? on the tl page it says he had like a 30 percent win ratio...
He was really good, he was just young and had nerve issues. In practice he was one of the best in business, for example he was one of Flash's preferred practice partners.

The only games we have of him are in GSTL and iCCUP weeklies, but i think the weeklies are free rebroadcast, so go check 'em out!
this man needs more love, i remember him from BW i always got the feeling back then that he was one of those hidden gosus that just do amazing in practice yet nowhere near their potential on stage nowadays i see him on HuK's stream, i have more insight on him, he seems like a great person on top of his immense talent within the game :D sign me up yo
Sign me up, this guy is amazing. Became a fan of him from the Team League and from the NASL Open Tournament(He borrowed my account for the tournament too which was rly cool, got a chance to talk to him~) Think he will win the NASL if he doesn't get nervous

Replays are saved to the computer, not to your account but I was able to get them since they released every replay for that tournament. Was really awesome seeing my account on the stream and him play really good people(My friend freaked out because he actually thought that was me lol) :p Also he was using my account because I help the NASL out with some things and TSL signed up at the very last second and didn't have accounts of their own. NASL didn't have enough extra ones at the time so I let them borrow mine. Was able to get on my brothers account and talk to him in between his games(well attempt to talk), his basic English was ok, was able to get some basic things through to him like good luck and stuff like that. Anyway good luck in the NASL PuMa, I have you winning for the bracket contest, don't let me down Also I am really sad, I initially had him in my fantasy team, but switched him with some other people the day before it started, wish I could get him back but his costs way to much now, now my team isn't doing so hot.
From MC's interview - Are you confident that you can win? I think Puma is the wildcard. I have faced him to test the waters, and I feel like he is an amazing player. I think I can do it as long as I avoid Puma.
Here is a video of PuMa doing a interview for qualifying for the NASL Grand Finals. Unfortunately TSL did not put translations at the bottom like they did for the old TSL App videos before the season started. Hopefully someone translates it soon~

Loved it back in BW when some of his talents shined through his nerves on some proleague games. Also I have to say, this guy has solid macro, and damn good dicision making. But all in front: He has the sickest micro in SC2 I have ever seen until now. I mean, did you see his Tank/Marine/Ghost Micro against CoCa on Tal'Darim in the Korean Weekly? Focusing Banlings, spreading Marines and sniping all in one smooth action... and so fast. Flashed... Hope he will get over his nerves and take the NASL in some amazing games.

At the beginning of the game 2 rax did some good damage to July, but then Puma made some half-assed marine push with stim half done and lost all his marines. Then it was Marine-Tank vs Mutaling/Bling. Puma pushed and lost his army but he managed to heavily thin the muta numbers with gosu focus-fire while trying to retreat. Two or three rounds of units after he decided to push again and his plan was to keep July busy with a drop while pushing into the natural, July fended the attack off but at the cost of all his forces. An even army trade it seemed.
BUT PUMA WAS NOT DONE. Out of nowhere reinforcing troops arrive to score the win. And there was mules dropped in the last fight. If they intended to repair the last tank or if they were manner mules no one shall know.

that's game 4.
game 3: XNC, started with a reaper expand into 2 (one with reactor) fact blue flame harass, he killed a lots of drones, he kept attacking forcing july into making a big number of roach. Back in his base he was going to go for somewhat of a mech build with 3 fact (2 TL; 1 R). Still harassing all game long with hellion ( killed a total of ~40 worker. ). when his natural started to kick in he put down 2 more rax and started pumping bio. his game plan was to maintain july on 3 base long enough for him to establish the gold with a massive amount of tanks ( 14 ). From this point july didn't had the choice, he was so far behind he had to attack but his roach/bane army died very fast to the shitload of tanks.
Everything he did seemed so solid and it looks like I am even going to be using that 3 Factory thing that he showed in the NASL today. Hopefully I can do just as well as Puma did on the ladder

lol, i got so used to the BO3 format, that I thought last game = game 3. :p
sign me ! i had doubts aboutw hat i am going to say next, but i see that now its obvious: BEst terran atm. his tvt is really strong, his tvz is the best ive seen, and his tvp hasnt still showed itself that mutch just enough to say that its good. If he wins mc i guess he is definitely the best terran atm, with the best zerg being nestea, DRG or the winner between sen and july ( they are the top 4 for sure), and the best protoss being between HUK and MC.
I hate Puma for ruining Nal_ra's show, but his play is amazing. He was a practice bonjwa in BW as well, but I guess he's finally getting his nerves settled down a bit.
Statistically, PuMa's TvP is actually his BEST matchup, which is surprising since we all think his TvT and TvZ are the godly MUs due to him beating MKP, Polt, and July. The TvP matches are ones that not many people have seen, but he's beaten Sage 3-0 and 2-0, and Puzzle 4-1, along with HongUn 2-0 and Yonghwa 2-1, so his TvP seems pretty frightening. I'd give him a great chance against MC, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it came down to 4-3 for either person - that is, if NASL doesn't suffer the GSL finals curse.
WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT im a fangirl... guy...
GREAT GAME PUMA :D I'm so happy for you! Beating MC as a Korean without much recognition definitely is an amazing way to get your name out in the E-sports community. Definitely a force to be reckoned with! :D
How can you not be a fan? Sign me up dammit! (would not be surprised to see him turn into the first bonjwa of starcraft 2, everything about his play is just so... excellent!)
Sign me up ... sick games you had through the whole series! so impressed. He is such an honest person, even the translator was overwhelmed by his honesty! such a good mannered boy
I've been a fan of his since his great performance in the GSL team league, but I never actually bothered looking at the fan pages since MMA's page was out.
In that OP picture he looks like a chubby Henry (of Super Junior M). lol. Just dropping in to see if this exploded after the events that recently occurred.
you caused me to lose my geforce match i normally play zerg but watching you beat MC somehow compelled me to offrace terran in my games and i lost ;~~~~;
Sign me up, I would have posted in this after the open qualifier victory but I usually do not join fan clubs. Being a terran player, this guys play has made me a huge fan.

I think the big thing here is that he was always known as a practice god. but never lived up to in in televised matches. now, winning nasl open, 3 kill in gstl, winning nasl season 1. He might have gotten over his nerve issues and you will finally see this guy more in televised games. I expect him to get through the next gsl qualifiers next season.

If they would just start watching SC2 to the same extent as the foreign community, then these players wouldn't actually have to go outside of Korea looking for a paycheck.

Just dropping in to say happy birthday! I have my own opinions about the shitstorm, but they really don't need to be voiced here; I just hope he's keeping his head up above the water - some of the comments in the Korean community are fucking abusive - and best of luck to him (and EG) in the future.
After seeing him play in NASL, sign me up. Was awesome to watch him play. It's sad him deciding to join another team ended up in an idiotic shitfest, but I hope this guy the best. Also, yay I finally stopped lurking to post!
I have to say when I saw him win NASL you can tell he was a top BW player. Not sure how he is not in code S but in my opinion Puma looks as good as bomber or MVP and could be one of the very best terrans. Once he sits in the US for a while though his skills will deteriorate playing against crappy US players.

He's not living in the US... What was the point of this post?
I just had a nice walk with Puma, Killer (TSL) and Moonglade here in Cologne. Met them on their way to the convention center and took the opportunity to talk for a bit. Teriffic guys all of them. Always impressed by how some seem to learn english as a side effect of a particular interest or hobby.
I am very skeptical of him being Flash's practice partner. I've been following Flash around for a while and I never heard Flash mention's Puma's name ever. Does anyone have a link that says that?

I swear to God I thought that drop from the last game wasn't going to do much damage, boy was I wrong. I really liked his push from Game 2. Everything seemed so well placed and well thought. Kinda hard to stop that as Zerg thought.

He didn't enter the last qualifier, most likely because it was just after he had switched teams. And @ K3Nyy Artosis and Idra both lived in the eSTRO house with PuMa for Starcraft 1, and both have stated in the past that PuMa was a practice partner of Flash.

Yeah he did kind of get supply blocked a lot... either hes tired, nervous, sick, or whatever the excuse may be but if he cleans that up hes going to be even scarier.
Puma can get code A spot from mlg right? He is on eg a NA team, he is eligible for code A just as much as Naniwa (both on foreign teams residing in Korea). If mlg doesn't allow him on, then it's kinda racist.

Nope. Code A spots are only available for non-Korean residents. The point of it is to give incentive to foreigners to come to Korea and play in the GSL by not making them pay $23589238593 to fly to Korea and end up losing in a sick hard qualifier.
PuMa is not elligible for this because he can participate in the Code A qualifiers (and have been) easily.

DRG and HerO are both pretty strong contenders for the Code S spot as well, maybe more so DRG than HerO. With a bit of luck in the brackets, Puma could make it through, though.

I'm with you to man. I stayed up till 5AM thinking the finals would start abruptly, then I tried to sit thru WC3 finals and LoL finals and I couldn't handle it so I just fell asleep. When I awoke the awards ceremony was just starting.
I was very happy with PuMa's results though ever since he's joined EG he's been my favorite terran. (sorry DeMuslim you're very good too)
Is that carmac manhandling PuMa? xD Also, sign me up. He'll be the start of EG's reign, the practice that the other members will enjoy before Raleigh will hopefully prove to be extremely effective!
Don't think I'm signed up yet for this yet, definitely should be. Puma is so damn good, can't wait to see him at more tournaments. Can he go 3 for 3 at MLG?
So, in spite of anything better to do, I made a playlist of PuMa all-killing Airforce ACE in Winner's League! I skipped the first game, but as you can imagine, Hite Sparkyz start in a 0-1 defecit after YellOw defeats Leta.
watching his replays of the iem finals.... its a bunch of bs that hee cheesed out mc. he just played better. his scouting is so insane, he had an eye on mc the entire series and responded accordingly. tons of money scans and crucial behind-enemy-lines scouting.

MC admitted that he isn't the force he was a couple of months ago now afterwards, it's very refreshing to see players admit, and more importantly, find the issues in their play and make it public. Glad to see that there isn't any hard feelings between them.
I'm a Puma-fan, he is slowly growing to become my favourite T player. Solid gameplay, and I totally love the 1/1/1's he did VS MC, plus he is humble and a nice person.

Hey guys, so I'm starting school within the next few days and I won't have a whole lot of time to update the OP. However, if you find any replays, vods, or pictures of PuMa please, please, please PM them to me so I can put them in the OP.
Also, can anyone design some headers/banners for the OP? I'm quite terrible at things like that, and I would love to get some cooler banners for this OP! Again, if you want to help the fanclub (and be a boss) please PM any replay, vods, or pictures of PuMa to me so I can update the OP!
cant wait to see him in mlg, hopefully he is in good health he has alot of games ahead of him... Also I am wondering what his tvz and tvt are like. I can tell him tvp is TOP notch. And I remember him having good tvt. So I wonder if DRG is the best bet to knock him out of tournament. Need to see a puma vs DRG or bomber match! Would be perfect!
Normally I don't see a difference between the macro of the very best korean players, but holy... against Sheth his macro was obviously off the hook... massive stream of units constantly pouring into Sheth's bases. As Artosis said Puma was at 150 supply where most other terrans would've been around 120 at that point. Ridiculous. I didn't realize macro could be that much better than other pros even if it was done perfectly. Speechless.
WOW, game 2... That engagement. To be honest he jsut scares me. He only micros half his army and for some reason that is better that microing whole thing hahaha! Do marines do more dps while not microed? I would say so based on watching puma!

Yes practice partner of flash, and he hasn't gotten anything done with his face yet.
Has anyone else noticed that Puma seems to be sick 24/7? He's coughing and sniffling a lot when the camera is on him. I seem to remember him doing that at both NASL and IEM.
So puma lost to puzzle. Game 1, VR all-in with proxy and 3 vrs puma or anyone really, had no chance. Game 2, puma goes 3/1 tank push with 6 tanks, puzzle delayed push with FF and gets out enough colossus to narrowly break push. But to be honest puma pretty much did a 1/1/1 all in and puzzle straight up denied it. So can people stop complaining a little bit now?
anyone got a link to the TL quote that described all the epic shit PuMa did in sc1 as a practice partner (his high winrates against A-class players etc.)
Not even two months ago PuMa won the first Global Challenge of this season in Cologne with a clear 3-0 over MC. Now he is in the semi finals of the GC Guangzhou against his teammate IdrA. We sat down with him to learn some more about this very talented player. Thanks go out to SK.Reis for translating.
China is not that far from Korea, but how different does it feel for you?
The biggest different for me is the food. The Chinese food is much fattier than the Korean. It also smells different here, not just the food but in general.
Did you expect your teammate IdrA to win against RevivaL?
I did not really care about that game because I was focused on my own match that day against JYP. After I learned the score though, I was almost shocked that IdrA won in such a convincing fashion.
How do you feel about going up against your teammate IdrA?
Well, IdrA is of course my team mate but I want to win this tournament and that makes him just another player I have to beat to beat if I want to take the first place.
How do you rate the level of the Chinese players that you saw in Guangzhou?
I watched the Chinese whenever I could and they don't play any different than the rest of the world. I guess their problem is that the number of very good players in China is smaller and means less high level competition and practice.
What do you think about elfittajas performance in his first IEM SC2 event?
I didn't manage to watch him a lot but what I heard from other players is that he has a unique style that differs from most other Protoss players.
If you win against IdrA, you'll meet a Protoss in the final. How do you like that match-up?
I think TvP is currently my strongest match-up. The only map loss I had in the past was against MaNa at the GC Cologne. I feel very confident for a final against a Protoss.
How do you like IEM compared to other events?
Since I won the Global Challenge Cologne I felt that if I go to China, that I also had to show a very good performance in Guangzhou. In general I don't differentiate a lot between events. Each of them is a tournament where I want to play as good as possible and ultimately win.
There are people who say that you play 1-1-1 and can't play macro games. How do you feel about that?
When I won the NASL, I never did the 1-1-1 or All-Ins. It was always macro games. The thing about macro is, that the games always lead up to the same point; huge armies and the chance for the enemy to come back. With 1-1-1 the chances to win are higher and I invest a lot of time to think about my 1-1-1.
You have been very successful outside of Korea. Do you feel you have what it takes to eventually make it into Code S?
Yes I think so 100%. Even though I am part of Team EG I practice a lot with Korean Code S players and I know that I have what it takes to play in Code S.
You mentioned Team EG and soon your mates HuK and IdrA will join you in Korea. Do yo look forward to practice with Idra and HuK them?
Yes I am very excited about it. I think it is important to have full-time practice partners and with those two I will be able to practice against a highly skilled Protoss and a highly skilled Zerg. For the future I definitely want to win the GSL and also maintain my performance in foreign events.
Do you think the current StarCraft 2 pros like youself, Nestea, MC or MVP will still be on top when the current StarCraft 1 pros switch to SC2?
I think that is hard to predict for the next years. I see my own chances as very good. The current StarCraft 1 pros will definitely be top notch, but being great in StarCraft 1 is no guarantee that you will be good in StarCraft 2. I was part of eSTRO and know how good the StarCraft 1 pros are.
MC won the Sick Nerd Baller title at GamesCom, does PuMa want to win it?
Of course I would like to win that title, but it is based on popularity and has nothing to do with skill for me.
Last question: Why the red hair?
*laughs* That is the result of a communication problem between me and my hairdresser. I wanted to have a more blond-brown color and ended up with this. The color is really hard to swallow. In the future I'll definitely have to change it again.
Puma you are my hero... every time you take a series off a fan favorite protoss the nerds get soooooo butt hurt, crying like bitches in the LR threads and stream chats. No matter how good you play you never get the props you deserve.
Pretty sure I signed up ages ago but didn't see my name on the list so do it now!! Game games against huk and idra, shame 3 eg in 1 group but puma looks the strongest eg member by far in this tournament
IdrA may be my favorite player, but im pretty sure watching puma play is the more exciting than anyone else! he always makes nailbiting, amazing games.
Sign me up for the Puma fanclub. I always cheer for him (against HerO in the last couple times they met in fact!) but realized I'm not here. Puma is amazingly good, and I'm always sad when he gets a somewhat poor reception by foreign fans
Doesn't this win make Puma the third highest earning sc2 player on winnings? I don't know if liquipedia is up to date, but if it is, he should have just passed Polt with NASL2x and Dreamhack alone.
Had to go to bed when the score was 3:2, so happy to see that Puma pulled through. =) I also loved how Hero said before the matches that he felt comfortable as long as they would not play a long macro match. Should shut up some haters, but probably won't...

Yeah, he should be 4th (MC, Nestea, MVP all have 220k+).

That was a mis-translation, what HerO actually said was he felt he would do well as long as he could hold off the 1-1-1.
Anywho, I rooted for HerO, but Puma was absolutely solid in those games. Very well done.

Pretty insane how hes suddenly the 4th highest earning player behind players of the highest caliber like MC, Nestea and MVP. Doesn't mean that hes "as good.." especially when it comes to Nestea and MVP but a pretty nice feat never the less.
I really enjoy Puma's play. I realize that there is considerable antipathy on TL against player who utilitze strategies like the 1-1-1, but I feel that this build is just very exciting to watch, creating a situation where every unit becomes very important and good control becomes of the utmost importance.
Aaaaaaand, this fanclub get 3 pages xD i guess TL is still upset a bit about Puma and all the drama in the past, or they are just sad that it was Hero who lost to him in the Finals :/

Oh you should add his 3rd place at IEM China to his accomplishments.
Yeah its insane, hes actually the 4th highest overall earning SC2 player now behind Nestea, MC, and Mvp. Crazy how things change in just a couple of weeks... from failing to make top 8 at MLG providence (signalling a potential slump) - to him getting 2nd at Dreamhack and 1st at NASL.
I think training with Slayers has helped him a GREAT deal.. he has the awesome benefit of training with slayers while being paid an awesome salary by EG + flight and other accommodations.
I know there are a lot of the lower tier and mid tier koreans looking for foreign teams now but it seems like its only a beneficial relationship if a top tier Korean player teams up with a top tier foreigner team. Example: EGPuMa, LiquidHero, MVPcoLDRG have worked out wonderfully and all 3 examples have made significant amount of money outside of Korea/GSL. While some of the lower tiers havent really done much.. ex: Check, Tandongho, Hwangsin etc.
He was just testing things out before. I'm not surprised because I think EG players are required to stream, but I'm so pumped to see PuMa wrecking nerds.
PuMa is streaming right now and hes playing cjentusHydra. No idea if hes the real hydra but so far this game is pretty insane. This zergs creep is 41 minutes into the game has been the most consistent creep spreading ive ever seen.

1. It's LosirA. A streamer viewed his replay against CJEntusHydrA, and a viewer then compared the hotkey setup and such and they were identical. The siiiiiiick apm of LosirA was also there.

PuMa: For this tournament, I didn’t use any 1/1/1 builds – instead I played my strategy according to how Liquid`HerO was playing. So I hope that fans who in the past have said negative things about me, that I use 1/1/1 builds too much, now after seeing my other style of play can see me more as a versatile player.
awww cant belive puma actually read people's complains about him doing his amazingly executed 1-1-1 build atleast now he proved that he can win major tournys even without using it
thank you very much for the article, Cameron! had an amazing read Puma fighting!
NP. PuMa's got a bit of a cocky streak to him (much like some of our other beloved EG members) and actually playfully says that EG is superior to TL so there is no rivalry.
Him saying that just means the rivalry is alive and well
Hey guys. I haven't been following Puma's games in foreign tournaments. Can somebody recommend some good games where he goes 1-1-1 or some good cheeses? I want to know what his reputation of being a cheeser is all about.

I bet PuMa was integral in helping EG recruit JYP. They still practice together and are obviously great friends. The addition of JYP should also make PuMa ecstatic to have another Korean on the team.
I dont get it, he can stand toe to toe with code S players, but then when he gets to the code A quals he chokes? It cant be nerves cause he has played on multiple final stages before can it?

I have been a fan of Puma since NASL 1. So here is a Puma wallpaper I did the other day for my Photoshop stream where I take graphic requests and stream them. You can watch the making of video online here http://www.justin.tv/futurefive/b/304499397

Unfortunately he won't be able to make the qualifiers. (Assumption since they are currently being played.) I really hope he gets some consideration for the available GSL seeds. Besides Stephano and Polt, I'm not sure if there is another player that deserves to be in the discussion more considering his recent results (3rd at assembly and 2nd at the IEM championships)
I cannot believe that Puma was passed over for a seed again. This is really getting a bit outrageous. He is one of the most accomplished players in terms of foreign tournaments.

The Naniwa pick is all about bringing in more foreign viewers. GSL really wants to get more subscriptions and increase viwership and having players like Naniwa in Code S is a big part of that.
With that said, I definitely think Puma would have been the better pick. Puma has shown that he can compete with top Koreans on a much more consistent basis (beating MMA for goodness sake)
I really like Puma and I am rooting for EG in the GSL and all that. But picking Naniwa over Puma I can understand and I support that decision. Not only does he bring more foreign interest to the GSL, he also gave up on his Code S spot previously to show that he was truly sorry for the Nestea incident. He learned his lesson and it only seems fair to me to condone him. Giving him the Code S spot back, that he also earned in the first place, shows that GOM is willing to give someone a second chance that screwed up but matured as a competitive player and human being. It is the right signal I believe.
Also, I hope that Puma earns himself a Code S spot the hard way, qualifying for Code A, going through the whole process and all of that. He definitely has the skill to do so and one should not take away from him the possibility of that accomplishment as I am sure it would mean a lot for him in itself. He will get there.

I'm not against Naniwa getting the spot. Naniwa deserved his spot more than Polt because he was given a spot from Providence. When GSL retracted that seed from him, it was controversial on GSL because they appeared to be backtracking on the MLG-GSL agreement.
I would have liked to see Puma get the spot rather than Polt. Polt did win Assembly, but Puma has won more major tournaments and done so more consistently. He should have gotten the spot last season as well.
Ah well, it's pointless to debate this now, as seeds are set and done now. Polt is not undeserving of the seed, I just hope that GSL will stop snubbing Puma in Season 3.

it is possible to transfer the "ownership" of the thread to someone else. That happened in the Idra fanclub, so if someone is willing to, this should be no problem
PuMa sent 2 scvs before the scv train to try and get a bunker up in sOs' base. Unfortunately the zealot killed both AND his scv train then got scouted. I think due to these circumstances PuMa felt he had to try to attack with the marines before sOs got out a sentry or another stalker, so he showed the marines. IMO if PuMa had waited for the scvs to show up he still would have lost cuz no bunker.
