I think he should play for longer games, even if the opponent is a macro oriented player (like f.ex. Haypro), unless there is some obvious sign that the opponent would be weak to a fast push. The usual pattern when things go bad for Tyler is this: His opponent plays relatively normal. Tyler goes for a relatively fast push (a 4-gate, or a 6-gate, or something to that effect), during which he does not add gateways or expands. If the push goes well, he wins. But often, against strong players, the push doesn't end the game in victory for Tyler. In that case, Tyler is behind as he has no backup plan. The inevitable counter from his opponent usually ends the game.

He's so solid with his macro and ability to read usually, now he gets out of Open Bracket and starts playing totally different?

I heard him talking somewhere the other day that he wanted to play this Mlg with "safe" aggression builds. So far they haven't been safe, but if he ever finds that build he will change SC 2 for sure. We need a reliable way to harass, comparable to Broodwar reaver drop harass.
