You're correct. MC is the best Protoss in the world, and MVP has not had as much success in TvP as other matchups. However, look at it from MVP's mindset. They are both two-time GSL champions and MC has openly challenged him. If I was MVP, I'd be excited to play this match. If he loses, a decent number of people will expect it given his TvP. But if he wins, he's all of a sudden got some of the best TvP in the world, and he just made MC look silly for picking him. I feel like its a low risk - high reward pay out from him, given that the majority are favoring MC over him.

That being said, I hope MC destroys him and shows climbs the Blizzcon rankings.
