He doesn't delibrately pick difficult opponents. First season he was last to be picked in a group, though it did end up being the group of death.
Second season he picked oGsTheWind and it seemed pretty clear after oGsSupernova ended up in that group that they worked out in advance who would win against each other (MC's game against TheWind was a massive troll).
This season MC said he did not wish to face Bomber, but eventually Bomber was left for last which ended up being MC's "pick" (TheWind could've chosen Bomber to be in HuK's group but was nice to HuK).

iirc, people said that after Bomber beat MC at Dreamhack, MC called Korea and said that he wanted to be put in Bomber's group for Code S.
