IdrA wants to win the games he thinks he should win because he is the best macro player in the world. So if someone cheeses or does a timing attack he is fine with being behind, he just wans to be able to catch up to them due to his superior mechanics and macro and destroy them. Which is something he feels he is not able to in a lot of games, so he either has to coinflip and do early agression or get killed in the lategame. And IdrA thinks that's not very good game design, if skill sometimes can't beat luck or risky strategies. Which is something everyone can argue about, of course, but that's his point of view and that's how he says, acts, and plays. And then NonY really failed in the EG vs TL discussion, which I thought was a complete 180 from the way he behaved previously. But that's ok, you could see he regretted it immediately when the discussion shifted, and I felt he kind of apologised later on when he was talking about his embarassing moments and how he lets his rage get the better of him a lot, especially concerning TL. So I think that was a very intresting State of the Game indeed, it's only too bad that a lot of people seemingly did not catch all the nuances. Also, the uncomfortable laughter when IdrA jokes about being so much better than anyone else is really funny. He is half-joking you know, you can see it in his smile. Don't take him at pure face value. He's not that simple of a man.

Which is something everyone can argue about, of course, but that's his point of view and that's how he says, acts, and plays. This conclusion is incorrect. What Tyler described was how HE looks at the game. Last weeks SOTG Tyler described his own gameplay as sacrificing economy for safety, so that he can be prepared for risks or cheese that his opponent does. To compensate for the loss of economy, he needs world class mechanics. He said last week and he repeated this week that this is also how idrA looks at the game. This is NOT what idrA said on this weeks cast. What idrA said was that because Zerg has no way of scouting a terran that pushes out a fast marine and walls in, either with overlords or drones then its IMPOSSIBLE for him to compensate for what his enemy does, as there is not enough time to react when his opponent moves out. Zerg has no one build that counters all attacks. His only options because of this is 1. All-in cheese or 2. rely on his opponent to make mistakes. IdrA feels that since he is playing against Terrans and Protoss who doesn't have their builds perfected, he can take games from them if they mess up while he plays a perfect game, but when they sort out their builds, the only option Zerg has is a 2 base all in. IdrA means that skill is taken out of the equation, and he is left to rely on luck in case his all-in works or fails. This is NOT what Tyler said idrA did, and Day9 didn't understand the concept at all, since he was taking a more philosophical approach to gamebalance. (Day9 said that if a race is imbalanced then people will stop playing that race until the game is balanced again).

It's pretty interesting to learn where and how he cuts corners as opposed to just seeing 3rd person VODs and replays where it just looks like he's playing super safe.
