Idra's injects are not better than the other good Zergs out there, but he seems to be so unstoppable in a macro game. How is he so good? What am I not seeing?

His play is more refined that's why.
He gets to the same point in his unit number and tech quicker than other Zerg by more efficiently managing the order of his buildings, the amount of his units/drones and the timing of his tech.
He frequently checks drone amounts to make sure he has the optimum amount at each expo and knows what to get next.
He takes expansions not "when he can" but when he knows he can saturate it and instantly gain benefit.

Take Ret for example. Ret just makes drones :p He overmakes them and he makes them at bad times. This sets his tech and harass back giving him less map control and initiative.
Ret hasn't really refined his SC2 play in the way he did with BW I don't feel. (I was a big fan of Ret in BW).

Thanks a bunch! Do you think Idra would do better if he got more than 3 queens for injects? I think most Koreans like to get a queen for hatch, even for the macro hatches. Idra in general seems less focussed on having 8 active creep tumours and billions of larvae and all that. Does taking slightly late gas, skipping a potential 4th queen, and all that stuff contribute to his seemingly unstoppable mid game ZvT?

Are you sure he only makes three queens? Doesn't make a lot of sense to not have a queen per base, i'm pretty sure he makes more than three when he cans.

You guys misunderstand. IdrA gets more than 3 Queens every time, it's just he only uses 3 for Injects. Why doesn't he use more? We might never know, but clearly he does not need to.

He probably just likes to invest in macro hatches instead. Less multitasking required, more durable (getting a queen sniped from a drop sucks so much), and more consistent larva as opposed to bursts of larva.

I also think only having 3 Queens for injects lets you manage your reinforcements much better.
Often times you see Zergs having 6 Hatches all over the map and units are popping out from everywhere,
which can be a problem to get your reinforcements in the right position, so only having 3 constant producing
hatches which are all near your main base (natural and makro hatch), makes it much easier for u to get
ur stuff at the right time in the right place (as long as u hit your injects).
I like Zerglings... and Banelings... and also Roaches... well, i like ZERG

I think it's the product of so much seasoned Starcraft skill. The reason IdrA is annoyed by all-ins and cheese is because he enjoys slipping into the midgame where he's so comfortable, where his multitasking shines through and his game sense pays off immensely. It's just the little things IdrA does, having refined his play to such a high level, that all build up and make him so dominant, especially vs a Terran, where the matchup is all about multitasking and mechanics.

I can see Idra is winning, but I don't see what part of his game makes his macro tiers above other Zerg players. He becomes this unharrasable macro monster, even though his mechanics aren't necessarily superior to someone like Ret or Dimaga.

Dunno if others will agree, but here's the opinion of someone who's been following his play since WoL beta:

1. I can confidently say that yes, his mechanics are superior to at least Dimaga's. Watching Dimaga vs Select, what jumped out at me was how passive Dima's mutas were. They were sitting on top of his army or somehere in the vicinity of the Terran's base when in the hands of IdrA or July they would be dancing around, going in and out, looking for little openings, killing enough stuff here and there to justify their cost several times over. I don't remember how many engineering bays he killed in those games against Bomber t MLG Orlando, but it was a LOT.

2. Right now though, the defining characteristic of IdrA's play is his knowledge of the early stages of the game (the first 10 minutes or so). It is, plainly speaking, insane. Like, you KNOW he's gonna go for mutas every single time in a ZvT but if you try to do a timing push with marines, tanks, stim and whatnot designed to kill him right before the first mutas pop out (the most vulnerable time for a zerg), you'll find that he somehow has enough zerglings, banelings and enough creep out on the map to stall your army and get him enough time to make more units and crush your force. I've lost track of how many times I've seen that exact scenario happen.

So, I think the answer is "knowledge of the game". He knows better than almost any other zerg how to tell what his opponent is doing and how much stuff he needs to hold things off and when he can and can't attack.

That's why when he DOES lose it's disproportionately often the times when he's faced with something he's never seen before, so that his knowledge of the game is useless.

Right so, you're retarded yeah? First you claim to not take anything away from IdrA, then continue to do so, then completely disregard the talent that was at the tournament.

Select: Korean, Taken games off MVP, one of the best foreign terrans

HuK: Needs no explanation, top3 protoss in the world and top2 foreigner

White-Ra: Top European protoss, won IPL2, does quite well for himself

Dimaga: Top European zerg, beast.

Elfi: Yeah ok, this guy's not that great, but he's still not terrible by any means (3-1'd HuK)

Sjow: See above

Ret: Also top european zerg, macro monster, great player, easily one of the best foreigners

Before you talk you should probably do your research, just because someone doesn't have a korean team prefix before their name it doesn't mean they're terrible and just because they're not an icon of community hype it doesn't mean they're terrible either.

What are you not seeing? The game obviously.

/facepalm

You're terrible.

Calling him terrible was unacceptable. I wish you didn't because otherwise you seem to make pretty good posts.
