Yes, SNSD is super popular in Korea but not relatively in China or Japan. Until your international fanbase gets big enough or you can make songs in their foreign tongue, most artists promote themselves in the smaller countries first, like Thailand, Vietnam, etc. If you go over too early, you are pretty much destined to fail and just waste money. SuJu does well because of their Chinese sub group and DBSK and BB do well because they can sing in Japanese and they were super popular beforehand. And also, notice how they are all male bands because they tend to have much larger fanbases. It is very difficult for a female (from past 'statistics') to have a breakthrough in other countries using Korean songs. Long story short, Japan and China are for the heavy hitters that already have large or growing fanbases in other countries. You perform/promote in smaller countries first to increase your fanbase and increase exposure. | ||
