Fiestar meeting was very awkward. Some highlights: - One guy got a fake kiss from Linzy(?) and he got so excited he fell off the side of the stage. - One very socially awkward guy had to perform a sexy dance together with Hyeji(?). Afterwards to the audiences great excitement he proposes to sing a song for her while she continues sexy dancing. He sings terribly and it was so awkward I couldnt look. (i suppose im lucky i wasnt selected to do the sexy dance) - One of the fans had like Downs syndrome and kept replying loudly to anything the girls said. Provided some much needed comic relief for all awkwardness. - During photosession cheska started crying and that was the starting point for the cryingfest. They even put on some sad pianomusic to get all the sulking going. They had to go off stage for 5minutes to get themselves together. - Do you know that instinct feeling to care for a crying baby? Seeing Jei crying on the stage was just as nerve-wrecking. She is seriously cute. - I spoke with Cheska privately for a while and asked about her future. Due to her emotional state she was very honest with me about why she left and her future plans. Such a nice girl, I wish her all the best. - Overall it was the most well organised fanmeet i attended. Got lots of expensive freebies and flowers. Guess they might be concerned about fans fallout when girl leaves? They didnt allow much photo, but here is the awkward moment when cheska starts crying. + Show Spoiler + Cute Jei + Show Spoiler + 4minute fansign was a very quick affair, felt like a signature factory. Their schedule must be terrible because they looked as tired as last week. They didnt ask me many questions or say Im handsome as all the others do^^. I was very happy to see they won inki today, they looked so surprised to beat snsd and 2ne1 sunbaes. Beautiful Gayoon and tired Hyuna + Show Spoiler +

I've been lurking in this thread for quite a while, but I might as well post my little story. It's likely going to be tl;dr for most people, because I have far too much free time and nothing better to do at the moment. Read on if you are likewise busy procrastinating. Like most people, my only previous experience with K-pop was Gangnam Style. I mean, it was pretty hard to NOT hear that song played absolutely everywhere in 2012. I never really saw the actual video or listened to the entire song all the way through until just last month. Other than that, I knew literally nothing about Korean music, K-pop or otherwise, although I kind of figured that Psy is about as representative of the K-pop scene as Weird Al Yankovic would be of all American pop music. In any case, about two months ago I was trying to kill some time and decided to watch a Starcraft stream, which is likely the preferred time-killing method for a lot of people on this site. Unfortunately, there were no interesting tournaments going on at the time, so I decided to check out a random stream of a Korean tournament instead. The stream opened during a break between games with a random Korean music video playing in the background, so I alt-tabbed the browser and did something else while waiting for the game to start. However, I found myself enjoying the song that was playing and after about a minute, I switched back to the music video and tried to look up the title of the song in the stream chat. Unfortunately, by that time another music video had already started. Since everyone was asking about the title for that song, the chat moved so quickly that even if someone had mentioned the name of that first song, I managed to miss it. The second song wasn't as good, but I decided to settle for the consolation prize and searched for it on Youtube. That second song, by the way, was Dal Shabet's Big Baby Baby. By some divine stroke of luck, while re-watching that second music video on Youtube, I saw a familiar image on the sidebar for "related videos". Sure enough, it was that first music video from the stream. The song in question was AoA's Miniskirt. By that point, I was pretty much intrigued as all hell. I immediately searched for "kpop playlist" and just "went ham", as the cool kids say. I should probably mention that my general music taste is all over the place. I start listening to whatever genre catches my fancy at any given time - and I start listening hard. For example, my largest music folders are (in no particular order) Guns n' Roses, Enya, Manowar, Queen, Tracy Chapman, Billboard Top 40 hits, Genesis, game soundtracks, REM, Weird Al Yankovic, Nightwish, etc. You get the idea. Basically, I had the K-pop playlist running on the background while I was busy watching streams, browsing, playing, working, etc. Whenever I heard a song I liked, I alt-tabbed whatever I was doing at the moment and bookmarked the music video. Once the first playlist was finished, I simply started another one. I listened through at least 3-4 playlists or around 150-200 songs each. Yeah, I wasn't kidding about the "going ham" part. I watched the full music videos only after I had bookmarked them, so the video itself didn't actually influence the choice. I kept a "dynamic" list, so whenever I bookmarked a new song, I placed it on the list relative to what I considered its position to be among the rest of the songs. Over these last two months, I have added more than a hundred songs to my playlist, which seems insane even to me. For your viewing pleasure, here are my top hundred K-pop songs so far, in order of how catchy/awesome/great I found them to be: + Show Spoiler + 1 BESTie - Love Options 2 Tiny-G - Miss You 3 SHINee - Lucifer 4 Ailee - Singing Got Better 5 BTS - Boy in Luv 6 Girls' Generation - Genie 7 G-Dragon - One of a Kind 8 AoA - Miniskirt 9 SHINee - Ayo 10 B1A4 - What's Happening? 11 Girls' Generation - Gee 12 Girl's Day - Expectation 13 Heyne - Dalla 14 AoA - Confused 15 SHINee - Everybody 16 BESTie - Thank U Very Much 17 Girls' Generation - Galaxy Supernova 18 Girl's Day - Female President 19 BESTie - Pitapat 20 Wassup - Nom Nom Nom 21 B.A.P - 1004 (Angel) 22 2PM - Comeback When You Hear This Song 23 Girl's Day - Don't Forget Me 24 Girls' Generation - Dancing Queen 25 f(x) - Electric Shock 26 Girls' Generation (TTS) - Twinkle 27 Nine Muses - Glue 28 B.A.P. - Warrior 29 Taeyang - Ringa Linga 30 4Minute - Is it Poppin'? 31 Crayon Pop - Dancing Queen 2.0 32 Demion - Ask Her Out 33 Henry - Trap 34 AoA - Get Out 35 B.A.P. - Crash 36 Rainbow - A 37 Girls' Generation - Into the New World 38 Brown Eyed Girls - Abracadabra 39 2NE1 - Falling in Love 40 G-Dragon - Coup d'Etat 41 Drunken Tiger - The Cure 42 Big Bang & 2NE1 - Lollipop 43 2PM - A.D.T.O.Y. 44 Ailee - Heaven 45 Exo - Growl 46 4Minute - What's Your Name? 47 Girls' Generation - Run Devil Run 48 XIA - Incredible 49 Wonder Girls - Be My Baby 50 Boyfriend - I Yah 51 SHINee - Ring Ding Dong 52 Honey-G - My Love 53 Kara - Mr. 54 Seo In Young - Love Me 55 2NE1 - Happy 56 2NE1 - Clap Your Hands 57 B.A.P. - One Shot 58 Girls' Generation - All My Love Is for You 59 WonderBoyz - Tarzan 60 Nu'est - Face 61 Brown Eyed Girls - Kill Bill 62 SHINee - Sherlock 63 Nine Muses - Wild 64 A Pink - My My 65 Kara - Damaged Lady 66 Sistar19 - Gone Not Around Any Longer 67 Miss A - I Don't Need No Man 68 2NE1 - Missing You 69 f(x) - Chu 70 B.A.P. - Stop It 71 LC9 - MaMa Beat 72 Lee Hyori - Bad Girls 73 4Minute - Whatcha Doin' Today? 74 Orange Caramel - Catallena 75 Ailee - I Will Show You 76 Kim Jaejoong - Just Another Girl 77 2NE1 - Come Back Home 78 BTOB - Wow 79 Sistar - Loving U 80 Kara - Step 81 Girls' Generation - I Got a Boy 82 Miss A - Hush 83 Sistar - Alone 84 VIXX - Voodoo Doll 85 2NE1 - I Love You 86 Sistar19 - Ma Boy 87 Hyuna - Ice Cream 88 BTS - No More Dream 89 G-Dragon - Who You? 90 VIXX - Hyde 91 B1A4 - Baby Good Night 92 Dal Shabet - Big Baby Baby 93 Shinhwa - Venus 94 AoA Black - Moya 95 Girl's Day - Twinkle Twinkle 96 Wonder Girls - Like This 97 Rainbow - Tell Me Tell Me 98 Tiny-G - Minimanimo 99 Gain - Bloom 100 Nine Muses - News In the beginning, I really couldn't tell one artist apart from another. I don't know any Korean, I don't understand any lyrics, I often can't tell singers or even groups apart. Many songs have gone from unbearable to bearable to likeable - and I have no idea why. I haven't got a clue as to how every single group manages to come up with a new dance routine for every single music video. I don't even pretend to know what the deal is with this entire "idol" lifestyle or Korean culture. But I do know one thing: I fucking love K-pop.

I will definitely look into those. Yes, most of the songs on the list are from 2012 upwards, because most playlists don't have all that many older songs. If I like a lot of songs by any single group, I usually look up some of their older songs as well. Otherwise, it's easy for some artists to simply slip by without notice. And Galaxy Supernova is indeed awesome. On March 30 2014 22:05 Doulmaigus wrote: That's interesting. It's been like that for me with every other genre, but for whatever reason, I started getting into K-pop the other way around. I guess it helped that all the artists seemed to blend into one, so there wasn't really any preference or bias towards any one group at the start. I'm leaning towards SHINee, BESTie and Girls' Generation at the moment. And don't get me wrong, I really love a lot of the music videos and visuals, but it's the catchy beats that hook me in initially. And for all those interested, here's the full playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfHSMFponXEgRglXw642zfggtNrhKexdM

I'm pretty amazed by this fact too, that someone just collects all they can of the genre instead of settling for a favourite at start. There's even some songs on this list I didn't even know existed... and it's only been 2months!? Also.. the Psy - Weird Al Yankovic comparison is pretty spot on. SHINee and Girls' Generation got a good and large library of songs behind them, you should check it out. Bestie is pretty new though, so I think you've heard/seen it all..

I think people who get into K-pop would usually just have a crush on a group/singer or a song and start from there, but you went all over the place right away. And also, I think a typical K-pop fan would care more about the visuals. Anyway, you got a good top 100 to me. and telling them apart only comes with time, if you keep it up. I totally agree. And for all those interested, here's the full playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfHSMFponXEgRglXw642zfggtNrhKexdM It's not totally bizarre that you listened to the audio before watching the music videos for kpop, at least I fall into the same category as well. This was the first song that got me into kpop: There is definitely a lot of music that is still to be heard! Especially some older groups, such as DBSK as previously mentioned, and of course the older songs from some of the groups like Girls' Generation. However it seems you like the catchy songs more so than the ballad types, so maybe DBSK might not be for you. There are definitely quite a few songs I'd like to suggest based off your list as well, although I'm not sure if you missed them or didn't like the songs when looking at some of these groups, like.. + Show Spoiler +

On March 30 2014 19:04 Sciurus wrote: I've been lurking in this thread for quite a while, but I might as well post my little story. Honestly, it's still difficult. Groups like Girl's Day, Girls' Generation, Nine Muses and AoA were interchangeable to me, all boy groups seemed absolutely identical, and I still could not tell you the name of a single member from over half of the groups I've listened to. But I do know one thing: I fucking love K-pop. wow! thats one hell of... bw first before kpop... started to notice kpop when i was watching a korean cable channel arirang way back early 2002... pops in seoul and showbiz korea served up as my gateway to kpop seven and boa was the first kpop artists knew... listened mostly on NOT the trend bands that time... like vanlla unity, click-b etc... though i was often listening to korean music since then, was only until 2006 that i started to have that 'craze'... was introduced to suju and kara... carefully (suju) and if you wanna (kara).... those were the songs i credited that started my kpop craze fly to the sky, ss501, girls generation... like you i listened to their music first before watching or care to see who does sing the songs... i was listening to this song by girls generations, tinkerbell was captivated... i looked who sang that line.... thought that her voice as angelic... haha~ turned out to be seohyun... these past years, was been into an old school korean group, cool if im not mistaken they are the oldest existing co-ed korean band since 1994..., for 20 years now probably their famous song internationally would be 'all for you', was also sang by apink's eunji and inguk for reply 1997 i love their music... they have this really weird songs... from ballad, summer songs to rock type. i started collecting all their 11 studio and 11 mini albums and others... i bet there is no other kpop group could match their number of albums and longevitiy... as for popularity, they are indeed not on the trend though.. and that's what i love most in them, they promote their own unique music... another co-ed that caught my attention years ago was sunny hill... prefered the original but still do love the current line up... eun young has such a soothing, powerful voice... ah~ back to memory lane with the original dbsk songs... they rock! nowadays only iu and apink are idols i follow... and ever since then, all the songs in my library were 99% korean songs...
