Like serious pressure. Making an idol group costs tons of $$$. It's like at least 6 figures to make an mv, at least 5 figures to go up on stage once, and everything else, plus the costs the company takes training idols for years and such is huge money. Obviously there's tons of more costs not mentioned. Plus, they're under contract. Imagine wtf happens to these girls in these smaller companies if they don't bring in the $$$. At this point, they'd probably do almost anything to make the dough, considering how much time, energy, and money has been invested in them to debut. Also, they're like entirely responsible for keeping their small companies afloat, and the ceo invested tons of $$$ to try to make the ez bucks in this kpop "boom". And if he's not making the $$$ that he wants, I find it hard to believe that there is not going to be any fishy stuff going on under the table. And then there's the question of, why would these girls go through so much to debut, even under uncertain and shitty circumstances, I would say that I think it's because of the culture. And how being a celebrity is the #1 occupation desired by kids in korea right now. That, and the potential $$$ that could be made through kpop. Wtf am I even writing

also, regardless of pressure to make money, i think its sad that these girls are willing to go this low to "fulfill their dream". if they had any self respect for themselves they wouldnt agree to a contract that allows the company to exploit them like this. unless they were too naive/stupid to read the fineprint

edit: also, I guess the "idol" culture overlaps with modelling/etc concepts too. It's just like how, at least from what I see in the US, there's plenty of women & men that think that being a model well help them transition to a different show business route afterwards, but that inevitably fails. I.e. the thought is model -> "more serious" singer/actor, or same for acting business of "bad" roles -> get better/more serious roles. In reality most people fail or only get crappy roles all the time (prostitute #4), but idols in south korea seem to have more of a tie in to getting acting roles, etc, as evidenced by the fact that actually happens with some of the idols.
