To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
  • Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
  • When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
  • No reposting of old material unless justified
  • Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
  • No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
  • Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
  • No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
  • No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
  • Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)

Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.

OH and i have a question. what song do you guys think is the most representative of korean music? or rather which song do you think should be most representative?

I've had conversations about that with a lot of friends, not about Korean music in general, but K-Pop. What is the best K-Pop song? Everyone seems to settle on Mirotic. Most representative of K-Pop? Unanimous agreement on Gee.

I'd probably say Gee as representative, but I'd guess most non-kpop listeners would think of Gangnam Style.

As far as best K-pop song? I dunno if that can even be answered... k-pop is still pretty varied in terms of song variety. It's different for each person.

Changes every year. Gee and Mirotic are examples of good kpop in the past, but they couldn't even stand the test of time. Both sound dated, Gee more so than Mirotic, though. But neither of them represent kpop today.

Miriotic still sounds good in todays standards imo. Gee a bit more dated, back when bubblegum pop was the "thing". But I still like it tons.

As much as I hate Crayon by G-dragon; the performances have sickkkk stages.

While KMD on r/kpop might sound weird at first I think it's definitly justifiable.
Yay, more a pink content! Some interesting and fun stuff in here. Seems like they'll stick to their cute concept for their upcoming comeback.

A PINK - CeCi Magazine Interview

Ceci: Yookyung, Naeun, Namjoo and Hayoung, have you ever felt jealous of your adult unnies?

EJ: I don’t think the girls will be looking forward to being 20 years old after seeing us. We don’t live a “free” campus life like most young adults do, however we do have a fantasy life though. Not too long ago, Naeun asked me, “Unnie, how does your neck feel when you drink beer?” and I was surprised, even worse, Namjoo asked us (the unnies) to drink beer in front of them.

NJ: I was curious that’s why. And also because I was afraid that the unnies won’t drink because of us.

EJ: I will take a confirmation shot of us drinking beer and will post it on the messenger board. You don’t think we’ll do it for you guys? (Laughs)

BM: We’re really curious about clubs as well. To be honest, we didn’t even go yet, because our title being “fairy-dols”.

NJ: Instead the unnies will make a club in our practice room, and that’s really funny.

EJ: I’m in charge of turning on and off the switch, but lately we’ve been lacking in business incase the switch would get on fire.

YK: We’re really jealous when the unnies watch movies.

Ceci: Haha, is there a recent movie that only unnies can watch?

EJ: It’s the movie “Taken 2”. This is a behind story but Namjoo really wanted to go see it, and she got in with adult accompaniment our manager oppa. She’s not allowed to do that, but as proof I will confess.

NJ: I’m sorry, though I was so nervous in the theatre. I couldn’t even drink a beverage and held in to go to the washroom. In a few months we’re in free irrigation!

EJ: When I was in middle school, I wore my mom’s formal wedding outfit and got caught in the theatres. I even wore pointy high heels and looked like a real adult. I was so mad to why I got caught. Now I realize how funny I looked.

HY: I feel bad that I can’t go to kareoke at nights after practicing because I’m still a teenager.

Ceci: You sing all day, but you go to kareoke again?

CR: Of course, it’s the same singing, but it’s completely different. We go to kareoke to relieve our stress. We choose songs from SISTAR and 4Minute seniors, and dance sexy like them.

NJ: In the end we end with an A Pink song in gag style. We speed up the tempo and rap the song.

Ceci: Has each of you heard reasons why you were able to join A Pink?

CR: I heard that Bomi joined because of her personal Taekwondo 3rd degree ‘back round kick’. Shinsadong Tiger composer saw that and said okay right away.

NJ: After I auditioned I heard someone say, “She’s a middle school student?” I didn’t know if they meant that because of my face or my skills. (ALL: It could be both)

HY: I heard that too. (ALL: You have nothing to worry about, you’re like that)

EJ: Hayoung is slowly getting younger. She’s A Pink’s “Benjamin Button”.

NE: I don’t really know. I followed my cousin to an audition and someone gave me an application. I thought ‘How could I say no’ and ended up applying.

BM: Naeun’s success in her audition is because she is a goddess.

Ceci: Who is the member that transformed the most?

BM: Eunji! The fact that Eunji wears make up and wear kill heels are so interesting now.

CR: Wearing kill heels, I hope that she stops walking out-toed. In her musical “Legally Blonde” her princess like character can’t walk out-toed, I’m worried.

EJ: On November 17th is the first performance, and I’m polishing my princess character and walking. I got in so much trouble.

Ceci: We’re sad that A Pink News Season 3 has ended.

CR: Since it was news just for A Pink, the emotional impact was big. Because of the program we were able to show various of different images, but we ended well smiling. We promised all the staff that we would meet again in a different broadcast.

Ceci: It was to the point when we were wondering if a girl group could act like that.

EJ: Every time we see the broadcast we would regret why we acted like that. Our dark circles were huge too. Because of the program, I realized the importance of make up.

NJ: We forgot that it was a program that everyone was watching. We ate midnight snacks, danced the crab-leg dance, when other idols said “We had fun watching the broadcast,” we were so embarrassed.

CR: Hearing that the whole school saw the personality that I only showed in class was so embarrassing. But the shooting was always fun.

BM: If we do season 4, I want to end like Hayoung who always show gag but always become edited out, and acts funny all the time but always appearing like goddesses -Yookyung and Naeun’s charms.

Ceci: Is there a way of communication in just A Pink?

CR: When we all saw each other, everyone was in a sensitive puberty stage. On top of that, as a leader, I was an introvert person so I wasn’t able to say my sad point of view or share my deep thoughts. So if there was any situation we would open a punishment session in the living room.

EJ: Now days, we can tell by looking at each other’s expression. Before we would stay quiet and move on in case we hurt other’s feelings but now we say confidently that we’re mad. Then we would say sorry and move on while laughing. You saw our personalities today, it’s good. That’s why it’s nice.

Ceci: You’re preparing for your album now. Have you ever thought of making a strong charismatic stage?

CR: We like our A Pink style. When A Pink comes out to the world, like how Eunji was caught in the theaters, it’s going to be awkward.

EJ: At first the fairy and young girl image was really awkward with our personalities, but now we’re sufficient with it. We’re thankful that they made us into fairies. When will we able to wear princess outfits again?

CR: Now we will work hard and not lose our A Pink colours, we will return as a young girl image again.

I think you can easily mark Gee as representative of girl-group kpop.

Eh, I think it only happened because as current generation of listening to kpop, Gee was our intro to kpop. But, if you just look at this year's release, it sounds vastly different as compared to '09.

K.will performances still so crisp. Also Miss A's new single starting to get stuck in my head.

It's not necessarily about sound though. Gee is picked not because it's still what kpop currently sounds like but because it's most representative of what female kpop is in terms of attitude/image/concept.

*was. A lot of groups have gone through an image change, or shift, now. Female kpop groups are far different than they once were, for the most part. Especially the ones that have been out longer. There are still companies trying to replicate SNSD's success with debut groups, but I'd say a lot of groups we've been following for a while have gone through a change.

Or perhaps I'm just wrong, and it could just be the cycle of debut groups just happen to have that image, and maturing~

I'm not talking about image like "oh they were cute image", I mean image in that Gee is perfectly representative of what kpop is in that it displays all the conventions of kpop- super clean image, perfect choreo, all that shit. If you try to break it down into "concept" like "Sistar is sexy and A Pink are fairies" then you get what I posted earlier- there's no right answer.

But if you had a friend who asked "what is kpop" you could show them Gee and they'd basically get it. That's the point.

Although Aiyu asked "korean music" and not "kpop", and for that you still don't have a right answer.

Any of DBSK's albums (both JYJ and pre-split) are some of the best sounding mainstream Korean pop albums out there, along with Super Junior's stuff before Bonamana.

No Music Core because it was recorded last week before all of this week's stuff was released. Dunno about Inkigayo though, I rarely watch it.

Yup. I don't think either sounds "dated" either, I don't think even something like Rising Sun sounds old. And all three of those songs still have a big presence (though of course its inferior versions of Mirotic and Rising Sun that are performed these days, them feels when you know you'll never get to see a true performance of Mirotic in person).

I just had a wonderful vivid dream where I met Girls Day. I sang karaoke with Minah and we did Crayon Pop's Saturday Night and 2PM's Put Your Hands up. I then took a selca of me and Sojin and put it up on KMD to the massive jealousy of everyone here. And then I woke up.

That sounds nice. I on the other hand have never dreamed about anything kpop related. Not sure why though

When I go to Korea my goal will be to take a selca with some kpop Idol. It would make my life complete.

We did never learn what their hair smelled like from Snowbird...

I also had a dream last night where I just now realized that Yoona had went to my highschool one year and I had been science partners with her or something and her english sucked. Also had a lucid dream for the 3rd time ever (I think) but nothing interesting happened, all my dead pets being alive tipped me off to the dream.

Ailee on IS2 completely destroyed KMK's performance apart from the awkward dance break.
There are also some nifty little KMK reaction faces in that

Sick performance. Although the best parts of that video is probably kmk's expressions.

EDIT: Just got to listen through Hyuna's album. First, WHERE'S THE VIDEO!?. Second, I'm not thrilled by it, but it's honestly better than I expected. Although she's a decent rapper it's clear that she didn't get into this industry because of her musical qualitites..
