I'm not sure entirely.. but I think a lot of has to do with what I consider one of the main differences between KPop (asian music in general actually I think), and American style music. While I don't really listen to America music much anymore, I unfortunately can't be completely sure on this, but for me one of the biggest differences is that in Kpop, it seem that they try to not only sell the music.. but the artist themselves. I don't know anything about k-pop but that sounds like a lot of the American pop artists.
Even though Jessica is one of my favorites, I agree with Cyric that there is something about her physical appearance that is just a little.... not fitting. I think a major factor is that she really hasn't found her perfect hairstyle yet. There is so much more that draws me to her than just her looks like her singing and personality. But even still, she is really pretty to me compared to many of the other girls in other girl groups.
Well from that bottom GIF in which she's turning to her left, you can see how the lower half of her face curves down and to the right. In fact, it looks like her nose goes to her right, which may explain why almost all pictures show the left side of her face. But overall it's the long chin that gives me pause I think.
I know what you mean about how kpop idols are marketed as a whole, not just in performances but in various variety shows and television specials, and I totally agree. I like the fact that Korean celebrities, and music idols in particular, are so accessible and aspects of their personalities are revealed through the many shows. However, that still doesn't make Jessica any more or less attractive to me
P.S. Again, my post is in reference to many people's opinions that Jessica is not just physically attractive, but VERY attractive. I'm not saying she's ugly, but I definitely don't think she's more "hot", "sexy", or attractive than many other kpop idols.
The thing about Korean artists, or Asians in general, on TV shows is that they sometimes try REALLY hard to be funny or cute in order to rake in new fans and build a bigger fan base. Sadly, it works really well.
Haha okay well.. like I said I don't really follow American artists anymore so I wouldn't have known. ^^;;. There isn't really anything that would compare to like.. a variety show on American television though.. or so I thought anyways. While I do realize that American artists are of course, all over the media, it's on more things like.. talk shows, and them having their own television shows or whatnot, or guest staring in other dramas or sitcoms, isn't it? Heh, well maybe I'm way off, bu that's what I thought it was like.

I totally see what you're saying with the appearance thing. Yeah, I'd say one of the most dominant factors from what you're pointing out is definitely the longer chin... but hey personally I have no problem with that. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes in terms of attractiveness heh, and I *do* find her very attractive . Besides.. the whole point of this thread is discussion haha, so it's all good~ I know you mentioned your other opinions on SNSD members, but how about on Kpop as a whole. Who's more your style?
In regards to people who're hating on Hyoyeon ><.. lol in my opinion she looks perfectly fine sans-makeup. Of course I am a SNSD fan in general, and thus likely a bit biased, but I saw her a bunch at this past year's Korean Music Festival in LA, and she looks very similar to her on stage appearance from what I can tell. I am.. unfortunately fairly terrible at noticing the more subtle makeups.. but a lot of it was early morning appearances, and she looked good.
I have been told ... not to derail this thread into SNSD fanboyism heh. so I guess I have to contribute other stuff .
Wow I totally thought it was her when I first saw it. But I guess if you look closer, she does have some "softer" features which makes her seem cuter as opposed to sexier. Then again, I could be distracted by the outfit and the huge ribbon O.o.

I half-agree with you, my favorites are Tiffany (#1 imo) and Taeyeon. But anyway, about Jessica, I get what you mean, I can't really describe it but her face is awkward compared to the others sometimes. However, in some pictures, she looks amazing.
However about her voice, in my opinion, she shouldn't be listed as main vocalist, I don't think she sounds that great. Her voice is some-what masculine, and more powerful-ish. It's like Fly to the Sky, Hwanhee's voice overpowers Brian's, but Brian's is more clear and elegant. Jessica has a higher pitched Hwanhee Voice.
also @endlessrain, I agree with you. I don't really like sexy girls either, I prefer cute. Cute > Sexy, however somebody once told me, Cute IS Sexy. Thank god for /s/

Hmm.. well I dunno.. I actually *don't* consider Jessica's voice a power voice.. Taeyeon has a power voice.. for sure.. but Jessica usually sings.. a lot softer..
I know it's just a fancam.. but ^^ Now THAT.... is a power voice heh. I became a Lena Park fan after watching this performance.
