I did want to talk about the new 4 minute song Volume up. As far as I know there have been no live performances, but I was wondering when they do play it live there is a few really high note that are held out by the girl with short hair (sorry for not know her name) but will she be able to sing that live or will they pull an IU and have that pre-recorded like in Good Day's high note. How does everyone feel about these things? I have seen it multiple times. Do People prefer that or should they write songs in the practical range of singers?

edit- She usually does do the notes alright, but idk if they'll do it here. Not really a fan of her, she seems to think projecting loudly while singing= having a strong voice. It's just loud, not necessarily good.

I haven't liked any of the songs 4 minute promoted, but they have had some decentish ost songs. + Show Spoiler + and this annoying one by gayoon in lie to me, but it stuck in my head for months. + Show Spoiler +

Personally, I don't care much, KPop isn't as much singing skills as it is a show. It's the overall package of dancing, singing, looks, personality, etc. That makes KPop stars as well as performances. I mean I have to hear their voices, they can't just full on lip-sync or I'm not watching. But if they sing the verses and lip-sync the chorus while doing a really hard, cool and entertaining dance, I have no problem with that at all.

Touché, it's not like Kpop is about talant in any way, it's a cultural phenomenon with a charm and a unique appeal. You need to see it as a different thing than most other genres.

I agree with all of this to a certain extent, but with the training process that all of the idols have to go through, wouldn't you think there would be better singers that came through? I think the "group" concept works so well because you can put very specialized people in the group to cover all areas, so should atleast one of them do the hard singing parts? and if not then why not leave the part out? idk maybe this is not such an important thing, but it is music after all.

There may have been better singers, but then they weren't as attractive, or were camera shy and didn't have much to say for variety, or couldn't dance, or could dance but not sing at the same time, or didn't want to keep practicing as hard. You can't really tell but even for main vocalists in a group labels consider a lot more than just vocal talent. edit- @Haxx it's not, but it's just funny because you both have hit a new level of fanboyism/creeperdom today lol.

Kpop is what it is, pretty people dancing with so so vocals ... take it or leave it because companies like JYP, SM etc are not going to change now, lets be honest this thread is more about cute pics than actual music discussion most of the times, so clearly they know what works.

Lol I was just going to say that... It really isnt so much a music discussion thread. It more like posting music and saying why you like the people who sing it ^.^ which is fine. I really dont give a fuck about anyone but Sohee

most people have already heard MAMA, History, What is Love the 3 other songs are Angel (into your world) Two Moons (the rapping one ft. Key from shinee) Machine Machine was never heard before, and it's pretty good i think. Angel is solid, and the 3 that were already released are solid as well. Can't really say I was too much a fan of Two Moons though. I don't dislike it, but don't particularly like it either.

shinhwa's comeback is awesome, especially the song "hurts." minwoo is charismatic as ever, always has a knack of finding the camera. loving dongwan's ever-improving vocals--i've always liked his husky tone. junjin's voice has improved too, and it's nice to see that he still has his dance moves. andy is WAY less awkward that before and he really grew into his looks he used to look really good during 1st/2nd album, then something happened in his 20s where he looked awkward all the time, but now that he's in his 30s he looks good again. hyesung's vocals are always on point as usual, but it's really unfortunate he hurt his knee during the concert. eric's flow seems to have gotten better. not to mention, even as a guy i find him to be ridiculously good looking. he should give hollywood a try. he could be the new face of korean/asian men in american cinema.

I already liked History and MAMA. What Is Love is a nice R&B track. It reminds me of TVXQ's Before U Go, just not as good. Two Moons is kind of an out of place song on the album imo. It's ok, but definitely my least favorite. I love Machine's style. Pretty good debut mini album overall. They have plenty of songs to release still from the teasers. Wish they included them, but hey, it's SM and they need to put something on a repackage lol.
