Did you not notice that the first MV was a 19 minute mini-drama? There wasn't really much dancing going on in that or focus on the song itself. Multi mvs are how the big spenders roll these days, man. Got to have an epic cinematic MV, then the dance/performance version and, if required, the remix. We've still go the "in Tokyo" versuib waiting for us down the road and one other iteration, but gods know what that's going to entail. Maybe the full drama without musical breaks.

Holy crap, WG song is so bad.
First SNSD puts out The Boys and now WG with this stuff. These groups need to stay the fuck away from America if that's the type of songs they're going to put out, stick to making catchy kpop style songs and go back to being Asian. I really hope no other groups try to follow.
Also Sunye's face looks so hollow, don't know if its just the make up or not but her cheeks are freaking scary. She was my favorite too

isn't Sunye in a relationship or something? That means WG are done in Korea so no wonder they would try to sell them in US.

^yes but that doesn't mean they're "done". I mean, so's Hara but Kara isn't going anywhere, and the revelation happened in the middle of Be My Baby promotions and sales were still going strong and they still won music shows so I think you're overestimating the impact that relationships have on sales.

edit- and since I missed out on today, 1. Yes Hoi Hoi is bad. Sounds ready to be translated into Japanese though, and if my perception about the Japanese market is correct they'll eat this shit up. The only possibly redeemable thing about this is if the lives are any good, since Hyunyoung especially and the other 2 are good singers, and since Rainbow gets no attention musically (woori and Jaekyung do alright cause of variety) this may get them the vocal attention they deserve. 2. Lubby Dubby zombies is objectively bad, but since I like T-ara and it's more T-ara I like it. Would've liked it more if it continued the drama plotline but you can't have everything. 3. WG song is bad but I wasn't expecting much out of it so it about met my expectations.

IMHO this speculation is fairly accurate. Seungah was already tweeting in Japanese from before it became apparent that Rainbow was going to try to follow Kara's footsteps in Japan.

Is 2ne1 going to release a song for america too? TBH that doesn't bother me as much as WG and SNSD because their style is already pretty similar to the pop here. That being said, it still has a distinct kpop feel to it, I think if they kept that feel and didn't try to "americanize" their release then it should be fine.
The only english songs I've liked by kpop artists have been covers, ie the ones on the SM Town Christmas album, but even then some of them (covers) have been pretty bad like when AS+F(x) did Avril's "Girlfriend"
I really don't think any kpop artists can do American style pop correctly, I'd love to be proven wrong but until then I'll just hope they never try.

Yeah but unless you mean waayy before, I mean Rainbow has already debuted in Japan... your post confuses me.
@skysec yes sometime this year. I don't follow 2ne1 too much so it may be the one being produced by Will.I.Am but I'm not sure, that may just be the next Korean one. But he's been promoting them in a big way (for kpop), it's similar to the SNSD-Teddy Riley situation in terms of relationship, although obviously Will.I.Am (such a pain in the ass to type out) is a bigger "get".

Will.I.Am is producing their American album. I think 2NE1 has the best chance out of all of them at actually 'making it' in the US, but honestly I just think the US isn't ready for an Asian music star yet, for a variety of reasons. I actually am really looking forward to that album though, I bet it will be good.

Zombie Lovey Dovey: I can see why they wanted to have a music video that focused more on the song and dance, but the whole zombie theme was so random. I could see some logic or reasoning behind if it had been released during Halloween, but now? Also, I think it's quite apparent that they were doing some sort of tribute to Michael Jackson's Thriller with that video. The zombie theme, the "scary" horror movie-like intro, them turning into zombies, the MJ-like footwear and glittery socks/leg warmers, the random moonwalking in the choreography, the "twist" ending with someone walking away with creepy eyes and glancing back over their shoulder, and even the cackle/laugh at the end. Again, this would've made more sense if it had been during Halloween or something.
New WG: I think it's about the same as SNSD's "The Boys", which I know almost everyone in this thread hated. Personally, while I was initially a bit disappointed with "The Boys", it grew on me and I actually think it's a pretty good song (particularly when performed). I think "The DJ Is Mine" is also a bit disappointing, but that it has a good chance of growing on people and turning out to be something that I'd enjoy listening to. One thing that I see no redeeming value in was the featuring by the School Gyrls, since they took up half the song and video and are not very well-known as far as I can tell. It's unfortunate that JYP is choosing to associate WG with the School Gyrls, since they seemed to be a failed girl group by Nick Cannon of all people (why in the heck would you want to associate with him??). As for why the song and video came out now, I think it's pretty obvious that it's intended to supplement and help promote their Nickelodeon movie. Apparently, the School Gyrls had one too, so it seems again that JYP is trying to follow a very questionable model/strategy employed by a very suspect source.
2NE1's US Album: I think this has a good chance of being pretty successful, although I don't know that it will allow 2NE1 to really "break into" the mainstream America. Like others have said, their style of music already seems quite suitable to the US market, and Will.i.am producing their album bodes well for them. Their ability to speak English will be very useful if they do end up doing any promotions in the US. YG seems to have been working hard to promote them amongst the US and they have been recognized and/or supported by some artists/celebrities like Snoop, Dr. Dre, Will.i.am, Jeremy Scott, Katy Perry, Perez Hilton, etc. It'll be interesting to see where this goes for sure.

I actually am really looking forward to that album though, I bet it will be good. Well there is Far East Movement, that filipino guy in the Black Eyed Peas, and that one rapper who did Black and Yellow, but seeing as none of them are really visual based I see where you're coming from. Although since it is Will.I.Am and lately BEP's success has come more from the instrumental side of things accompanied by ridiculously simple "raps", and that's all things that 2ne1 can do, I do think they have a chance to succeed.
@Cyric- School Gyrls is there because, as far as I can tell, they play the "rival" girl group in their nick movie and the song is all marketing geared towards that thing, so it makes sense from that angle, although ofc I agree that it's not good musically. I agree with everything you said about 2ne1, and I think out of all of them they have the best chance, unless WG's movie catches on with the teen nick watching crowd, which is possible but all really depends on Nick's marketing of it and WG's engrish. As other people have noted the plot seems dumb but, having sat through a shit ton of Nick/Disney movies due to having a younger sister, as far as I can tell it's not atypical of one of those movies so the plot isn't really standing in their way.

Also I was randomly playing around with the idea how the whole lovey dovey zombie concept could be a subtle social criticism on fans. Its stretching it but an amusing thought. The zombie virus is the k-pop wave infecting people turning them into mindless zombies/fans who just want to consume and infect after. I could add to this metaphor in that t-ara was performing while the zombies were held back by the gates. Its like them performing for their fans and when the zombies break through and confront t-ara, its like fans who go overboard. To stretch the metaphor more, the cameos by 5-dolls and the girl at the start symbolize competitors of t-ara that the fans try to suppress and undermine. Still can't think of how to interpret the ending with the girl turning into some half zombie/human hybrid.
