THe thread started out hillariously (and rightfully) about how extremely bad K-pop is in all aspects. Atleast the music that mainstream korean idiot kids listen to. Korea has had alot of good singers in the past but none of them bitched out and went for this plastic fake fucking shit. A lot of male singers doing ballads whom I can not name and Younha come to mind. It's still pop music but it's not "Act like a disoriented idiotic 14 year old girl and giggle your way through music videos" style. This thread really confirms my theory that about 90% of people do not hear music as the rest of us. They just listen to it do be cool. What makes them cool is different based on where they come from and in which clicks they hang out. Basically 90% of people are posers. what do you listen to

You know what's real music, unlike 90% of Korean kids who are idiots for listening to kpop. You're too good for that. But since the world is full of idiots, it's really hard to find people who are just as smart as you. Feeling lonely is a terrible thing. I think you should start a "Real Music Thread". Then you could find people who are just as smart about music as you.

and i thought, it's true. when i recommend a song to a friend, i am assuming that the person im recommending the song to is missing out on a really good song, because he or she doesn't have the same music tastes as i do. one thing i admit is that i don't publicly listen to SNSD's music around strangers, but i still like their music. am i embarassed because it's a bad music? No. it's just too cute lol i really think, there is no such thing as a "BAD" music. everyone has a different taste in music. like one person might think jessica alba is the hottest woman alive, but many ppl think otherwise, including me. so, i think ppl should stop bashing kpop, as though the kinds of music they listen to are the best, because not everyone certainly thinks so. i really hate when ppl talk, "real music blah balh your music sucks blah blah" respect our music bitch!

That's what I'm interested in since it is apparently superior to every single Korean young person's taste and 90% of the world's populations' preferences as well. HOSHIT. Only 10% of the world has the 'correct' listening skills to appreciate 'real' music. We must look to our new musical savior Starbrift to tell us how to reform our terrible poser habits of liking music that deviates from his personal taste. What happened to the joy of finding a new genre that you enjoy? Does one's personal evolution in musical taste/exposure immediately make a person a 'poser'? If so then I am one of the biggest posers on the planet. Heaven help music journalists.... Also it's 'hilariously' and 'cliques' - if you're going to be a condescending ass-hat/our musical redeemer then at least try and spell your narrow-minded ramblings correctly. Only being able to name drop a single artist implies that really Starbrift hasn't got the slightest clue what he's going on about in terms of the diversity of Korean music. From the more traditional genres such as Trot which are aimed at the senior generations to the globalizing influence of modern Hip Hop acts such as Epik High who are breaking down the boundaries of nationality and distance with projects like Map the Soul. Basically if you don't like Korean music then don't post in this thread - stop raining on peoples' perfectly valid parade. We don't want your negativity. One last thing - I've been a teacher of those so-called 'idiotic' Korean children and the majority of the ones I've come into contact through my profession have been sweet, caring and wonderful individuals. Their musical taste has no bearing on their levels of intelligence whatsoever. However, Starbrift's comments definitely seem to indicate he is lacking in certain areas such as tolerance and the notion of individuality in relation to musical (or otherwise.) inclinations. (Hoo boy, scathing rants are pleasurable to write at times...)

What makes them cool is different based on where they come from and in which clicks they hang out. Basically 90% of people are posers. Of course KPop is trash, but it's still fun to talk about and sometimes fun to listen to if you take it for what it is - entertainment. And the thing about some people listening to music differently than others, well that's a given and while in most situations discussing 'taste' is useless, I believe there are objective ways to differentiate between 'high quality' taste and 'low quality' taste. My taste in movies, for example, is low quality. I don't know shit about directing, acting, lighting and all those other things. When I watch a movie I watch it as a whole and judging from my general impression and overall feel I decide if I like the movie or not. You can test this yourself if you try to explain to someone WHY you think something is good, if you can't describe it very well, then your taste is low quality. When movielovers explain to my why they think a particular movie or scene is good, I'm baffled about all those things they notice that never come to my mind. Now for music I have high quality taste. I've been a long time hobby musician, I know exactly what I like and what not and why. Then there are others, professional musicians, they have even higher tastes, there are professors etc. The notion that everyone's taste is equal comes from that terrible trendy notion that all humans are equal, which is of course bullshit. There are people who can't even distinguish between the different instruments used in a song, hell there are even people who don't know what verse chorus bridge and interlude are. Of course those people can like and dislike songs too, just like I like and dislike movies, but their taste is of lower quality than mine. And that's not meant to be an insult, I'm perfectly fine to admit that I have low quality taste in many areas (fashion, photography, art, poetry, food, etc.). It's just that people have a hard time admitting that when it comes to music, because music is so accessible and everyone thinks they know something about it. (Just like philosophy - I'm a philosophy major and never talk about philosophy with 'regular' non scholars, because it always ends up being frustrating and fruitless). In every area you have a high quality taste in, you will always notice that 95% of people around you don't, that's just the way it is and there's nothing bad about it. You say "you can't believe it", but what's so hard to believe about it, people just can't be interested in everything. You just need to know that your taste equally sucks in other areas, probably without you even realizing that. PS: The post is supposed to sound arrogant, I'm fine with that. I think arrogance as a negative attribute is overrated.

i love jazz, playing/listening/studying. but some jazz stuff is better academically, and others are better sounding. as an example, alot of old bebop stuff by coltrane and charlie parker are very interesting to study and very hard to play, but this doesnt make it better music. on the other hand, i really enjoy listening to jim hall - nowhere near as fun to study or analyse or as skillful and complex as others. both are equally valid types of music. the validity and quality of the music depends on how it's judged
