Also if the majority of the articles and claims by Landmark hold true, then the CEO's wife is quite the cold hearted bitch ripping off the members two ways behind her husband's back. lol this somehow reminds me of the kdrama Baker King, Kim Tak Gu.

Idk it always struck me as the mother being the one most involved their kid's life outside the home.

So, the main CEO (who is currently hospitalised, has been for 12 months now) and kara had a normal and stable relationship and all hell broke loose when his wife took over as acting CEO? Or was it just as bad when the main CEO was in charge? Also, does anyone know who exactly his wife is, qualifications, etc?

Kara makes it huge in Japan, but barely gets a chunk of the revenue generated. however, 1% of revenue to the idol group is apparently standard when a Korean group starts out in Japan, but much QQ still occurs due to 15.4M in revenue is a huge chunk of change while 154K to be split between the idol group is laughably low. lawyers are going to end up winning this dispute, while Korean entertainment group & idol group involved lose out. I wonder how many idol groups have a decent escalator / bonus structure setup in their contract. I think TVXQ had one with SM but its terms were laughably bad. 2NE1 is the next Korean idol group that will blow up in Japan, but it seems YG does a pretty good job of keeping his two idol groups happy.

Well you couldn't possibly know that, like no one knew how shitty tvxq was being treated back before they filed the lawsuit. I really think this issue isn't just in kpop.

I think their problem with the Japan thing wasn't the 1% as much as it was the 15% take going through their Japan label, THEN through DSP Japan, THEN to the group members, so they're effectively getting a fraction of a fraction of a fraction. Their other issue seems to be that family members with no qualifications are running DSP- the President's wife running the company even though she has no prior experience in business, family members running Karaya (the Kara clothing store), etc., plus they never got told business and contract details if you believe them. I'd be hella pissed too. Regarding an earlier post, allkpop comments are retarded, things like "I'm sure the girls don't care about money as long as they get to make music", or "I don't care as long as I get to see them perform" or "they're being greedy" (my personal favorite) It's the same problem I have with a lot of music fans in the US too, talking about "selling out" (although with kpop so manufactured thats not really an issue) or getting greedy. People have to realize that this is a damn profession, and when 1st gen idols are talking about being broke or having virtually no money left from their performance days if I were an idol I'd be fucking scared too. It's also hard to see anyone as greedy when they supposedly only sleep like 2 hours a night if at all, and then rarely make a million even if they're the most popular artists in the nation. edit- also a lot of people are saying that it's only the mothers who care so much, which I tend to doubt as well. Their image has been so carefully cultivated that people assume they're really like that (super cheerful all the time, not greedy at all, nice to everyone), but I think they'd probably want their money too, it's just that having the parents deal with the legalities makes more sense.

“First of all, although I knew that talks regarding their contracts were going on, I did not think that the issue would escalate to this level. Seungyeon has told me from time to time that she was tired, but I didn’t think much of it.” He continued, “I received a phone call from Seungyeon on the 19th and all she did was cry. I think it was because things weren’t developing the way she had thought at first, and now that the issue is out of her hands, she was afraid to find a way to overcome it.” When asked what he thought the members’ biggest problems were with DSP Media, he responded, “There’s a lot, but I think the main is that there’s no order. As much as KARA is being acknowledged for their efforts, the support isn’t following through.” He also stated that the lawsuit is not because of ‘money problems’ or the rumors regarding a new agency offering them better contracts. Han explained, “I don’t want to discuss monetary issues right now, as it isn’t even the proper time for that. If DSP is unjust, I’d rather they just end their contract as opposed to move to another agency. It’s something that cannot happen.” Han expressed his concerns for Kamilias, KARA’s fanbase, by stating, “How can a singer exist without fans? What’s most disappointing is that the members think importantly of their fans, but they’re receiving criticisms saying that they’ve lost their loyalty. I am unsure as to how to clarify that.” He continued, “I once told Seungyeon to give up the chaotic entertainment industry and to just go back to studying. Whatever path is right, and whatever decision is the best, I just hope that the issue is resolved with wisdom.” When asked what he thought the ‘right path’ was, he answered, “Doesn’t everyone know what the right path is? It’s for all five members to remain together. A lot of people compare the case to TVXQ, but KARA is still a beginner. Whether they stay together or leave, I don’t think it’s right to promote as separate groups. Whatever the case, I believe that they should remain together.” Han concluded, “I think the priority right now is to figure out what exactly is the problem, and whether it’s something that can be fixed. I need to meet with the other parents to hear what they think. No matter what someone does, bringing something to a successful conclusion is a must, and as a parent, that is what’s most disappointing.” http://www.allkpop.com/2011/01/karas-seungyeons-father-believes-all-five-should-remain-together

Her retraction isn't confirmed yet, the "one member to retract" was some stupid rumor on a different english language site, and all the AKP article said is that she's "talking" to them.

Gyuri <3 sticking in there He continued, “Yesterday, Goo Hara and Han Seungyeon did not even know that they even filed for contract terminations and were extremely shocked with the news. The members may have discussed the issue for a while, but we don’t think they knew that it would be turned into a legal matter so quickly.” wtf?
