The author loves doing that. There is a better way to make something epic. Make it epic. The way you described is just lazy imo. Nishio Ishin (the author) is quite notorious/famous (depends on how you look at it :D) for being very meta with his writing. Make no mistake, the trolling was done deliberately, and with that end of ep 1 in mind. How much it worked, how it's received, etc. obviously differs person to person. For example, Ecael and I loves our crazies, so getting more Nanami text time (air time) was a perfectly good trade-off for a generic "epic fight," at least from my perspective. That said, I don't think either of us is going to vehemently defend Ishin here either - Katanagatari LNs received somewhat bland reviews, and they are far from being heralded as his best works. Given his writing style and such, I'd go ahead and assume that's because he failed a lot of his jokes, or at least his jokes had a bad "it made me chuckle" vs "what" ratio ;p

HERR HERR you're funny, and cool, for labeling everything moe fanservice shoujo shit. HERR HERR. I don't know about you, but so far this season everything seems to fall under the catagory of moe fanservice shouju shit. Not trying to make myself sound cool, but it is quicker to state good luck finding it than posting a detailed description and explaining why you will not find it this season.

Moshidora isn't out yet (as far as I know), never seen Kaiji (didn't watch S1 yet) and I forgot about Steins;Gate, therefor there is one show so far this season that avoids moe fanservice designation.

+ Show Spoiler + Maybe just me but it was kinda underwhelming. It's not the story since I already knew how it was going to be in both seasons, it was more of an... unique atmosphere that seemed to have been lost? The gamble part hasn't really begun yet so hope they do a better job on that one.

It's not the story since I already knew how it was going to be in both seasons, it was more of an... unique atmosphere that seemed to have been lost? The gamble part hasn't really begun yet so hope they do a better job on that one. Let's be honest, the first episode from the first season wasn't all that great either. The intresting parts of Kaiji are the gambles and how they work out. Regardless of that being the strong point they still have to logically build up towards it, wich just like last time they did in a single episode. I thought it was a pretty good introduction episode, it sets up the first gamble and even when he wins that, it only opens the door to being able to gamble more since the pass only lasts him one day. Only thing i thought could have been done better was + Show Spoiler + His fingers, i don't like that they are back to normal. I would have prefferd it if he was left without his fingers or if his fingers could barely move anymore. I believe it's cheap to have a major setback or punishment like loosing fingers and then undoing the entire thing. Still, it seems like he is permanently wearing gloves so to a certain degree it does leave a scar. The scar is important for his motivation to defeat the boss. All in all it's still the great show i watched a few weeks back. I am basically watching the first and 2nd season back to back and i can tell you that the vibe is pretty much the same. Kaiji is still going to be rocking all other shows out this season.
