being the same as the very-high-quality source is, of course, still a very good thing.
Also--did you read Nichijou or Nichibros? I haven't read the manga for those, but I wouldn't be surprised if their adaptations improved on the source material

The Manga format just wasn't my thing for the series. The anime, at first, was a bit too fast paced for me as well with frequent pauses here and there to make sure I can read stuff but I clearly enjoyed that way more than the Manga.

I felt it's about the same as the source (though because I read the source first, the jokes probably had a slightly lower impact than the first time) being the same as the very-high-quality source is, of course, still a very good thing. By improved I mostly mean adapted well. A lot of comedies are adapted in the laziest possible way. And fair enough, typically this is fine if the source is good enough to stand on its own. For Kaguya, it felt like the studio put some actual thought into how the jokes should be presented, which is nice because the transition isn't always smooth. Anime's a visual medium at its core, so IMO it's not enough for a show to just have good jokes - it should also strive to be visually interesting. Things like incorporating small visual gags that help enhance the actual punchline. + Show Spoiler [For example] + Fading in the furniture in this joke. You can't really do that in manga. It's something to look at to keep the audience engaged, and sets up the punchline pretty effectively. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Since I already know the punchlines, my enjoyment of the show stems from two things: sequences I already liked in the manga, and things that are presented really well or in a novel way. This adaptation has both. I do feel that can't hear the fireworks had a lot less impact in the anime, but meh. Also--did you read Nichijou or Nichibros? I haven't read the manga for those, but I wouldn't be surprised if their adaptations improved on the source material Nope. Can't really comment on those two. Edit: Forgot we got a new season of this. It's been a few years. ![]()

I liked the references and how cleverly the arcs get resolved, and the world-building was intriguing too. However, I thought the movie was even more amazing, since it managed to take on a darker, more tragic tone as a foil to the more whimsical tone of the show. + Show Spoiler + shuvi vs jibril was pretty cool. But Riku in the end crying for help from Tet was sooooo good voiceactor-performance wise. And the music But yeah, I really liked that the movie was something completly different from the series. Anime series getting a continuation in movie format can be a bit tricky at times but with it feeling completly different that wasn't an issue at all for me. Though I thought the movie had a really slow start and it took forever to get to the good parts.

I also thought the asspulls at least had some setup, and they all countered whatever asspulls and unfair advantages the opponents were using. That dynamic kinda reminded me of Jojo.

It just depends on the type of show to what extend they impact the enjoyment. In a show that acts all clever and which has "problem-solving" as a major feature, I think it's a terrible idea and at least extremely lazy. Of course NGNL was all style over substance but that's not really what it wanted to be seen as. Is there a difference in the meaning of the two words in English?

The JSDF patriotism was pretty extreme. And felt almost a bit tone-deaf at times. Especially considering japan's past regarding modern warfare.
