On the other hand, while I'm less hyped about FranXX, I would still put it above Violet for sure.
Also, MAL is a decent indicator as mentioned above. I think the time span in Violet Evergarden isn't as obviously explained, but it definitely feels like it's weeks to months between episodes. In a way, I'm glad because if we were to follow in real-time her growth (what I was afraid of after like eps 1-2) it was going to suck a lot. But after a few ep later, she's shown to have grown a lot, and by ep10, has already built up a reputation of being a very good ghost writer. Ep 11 even mentions the time it takes to travel to one of the client locations was ~1 week 1 way.

Crunchyroll's data is also due to user input. User's have to manually select the show to watch it, therefore not accurate and not what I see. I see FranXX as not very popular............. + Show Spoiler +/s sorry couldn't resist.

Steins gate just kind of sucks. Code Geass seems like it probably sucks too after getting a few episodes in. I'm at episode 20 of One Piece and it just feels so incredibly slow. Full Metal Alchemist may end up good, since I am only a few episodes in, but nothing seems as promising as HxH did when I was like 4 episodes in. I'm beginning to think HxH really is the best anime ever. What's it take for a guy to find a nice "basically just a super long movie" action anime?
I felt like I was just growing distant from anime, but then I found HxH. HxH showed me my taste has gotten more picky, but clearly there are others out there that rival HxH. HxH is funny, yet serious. The pacing was amazing. The continuity and growth was amazing.
I liked Evangelion, SNK, and OPM, but I'd be lying if I said they came anywhere near HxH.
My knight in shining anime armor may lift me from the shadows some day, but not today :'( While not action you should maybe try a series like Monster or LoGH if you want some seriously well told stories Yeah, it doesn't actually need to be action. Evangelion was really good. I just want a really, really well told story that makes me want to keep watching. I'll look into those, thanks!
LotGH and Monster start kind of slow, too. Just a warning. Although I thought HxH started very slow as well. Anyways, I fully agree with those two suggestions for you. Both anime feature great well-written characters and story, which is sadly rare.
Other than that, HxH is probably the best anime of its genre. I'm biased here because, while I like action, special power systems etc., I don't like a lot of the shounen clichés such as stupid one-liners, long drawn out fights and ass pulls among others. HxH bans most of them and adds a bunch of unusual stuff for the genre which makes is quite unique.

I was hooked on HxH after the 5th episode, so perhaps we have different definitions of slow.
To me, the biggest thing that I feel HxH has done better than even most modern TV shows is world building. HxH has an extremely well developed lore and world. The role of nen, various factions and whatnot is just plain outstanding. It was an extremely immersive show and even taking a step away from the genre, I don't think I've ever enjoyed watching anything as much as I've enjoyed HxH. I truly think HxH is unmatched in its ability to build a cohesive, fascinating world where it is so well designed you can find yourself theorizing for hours.
What a show. What a great, great show. It was the only show capable of dethroning Star Trek Voyager for me as GOAT.

Violet ep10 is probably the best ep of the season though. It doesn't help that the first few eps were original instead of following the ln but I think this way was better. When they started getting to novel adapted content (ep6 or 7?) the stories felt a lot better because of the character building done in the first 5 episodes.
Also, darling is a really popular show. Your small sample of ppl on discord is nothing. Even kim kardashian insta'd it.
My top5 would be like Violet, Overlord, darling, lolishogi, and last spot would be between beatless, fate, or nanatsu no taizai. Yuru camp is also great.

I dunno about HxH but One Piece sure has developed a pretty interesting and well developed world. To an extent that people have drawn maps to map it all out.

Yeah, One Piece seems like a vast, vast world. I think someone here mentioned One Piece "gets real" after what...40 episodes? I forget. I'm 20 in and really waiting for things to pick up or for there to be a more "thick" story.

One Piece starts picking up when you get to Arlong

When abouts is that episode#-wise? I'll keep pushing along!

Its been a while since I watched through the anime, but I think that arc starts in the 30s? Early One Piece goes like Earlystuff->Buggy->Kuro->Don Krieg->Arlong
|
The walk to Arlong Park is still probably one of my favorite moments in Shounen history.
|
Zoro's fight vs Mihawk in the Don Kreig arc was pretty sweet too. But yea that walk to Arlong Park was amazing.
I think the Don Kreig arc is where it really started to take off for me. Sanji's backstory plus the Zoro fight.

I'm trying to finish up Violet Evergarden tonight, I'm on episode 8, and goddam, you would think it but Kyoani's action scenes are so freaking good. I was kinda disappointed it wasn't more actiony given the little pieces we got in episode 1 or 2. But this makes me want to see more action to them. And God Bless, the direction of the scene near the end of episode 7 just filled me with awe and wonder.

Rest of the season is pretty trash tier tbh. Not even the fate series by Shaft is meh.
watch sorayori.

I tried at the start of the season. Stand by what I said.

You're really really really missing out.

Na. I tried it. I know what its all about and I have 0 interest in wasting time on it.

Welp, I'm just gonna say that I have not been so excited to go home from work to watch the last episode of a show in .. well.. ever really.
Judging by the latest reviews, ep 13 was just as good as the last few eps, which would make this a Top3 anime of all time for me along with Clannad AS and Your Name and I'm probably going to rant the hell out of it later today.

Silent voice >>> Your Name
You put Clannad AS as a top...i won't judge but...

Clannad AS is the best the best piece of media I have ever consumed in my entire life, and has legit changed the way I look at life, which cannot be said about any other show ever made. You can judge all you want.

Maybe one day they'll remake clannad without the god awful character designs and then i can watch it
