Overall, the show was ok. The fanservice is too much though. Good humor. For a show about being trapped in a game, I think Grimgar managed to build a more interesting "game" world though, more serious. Konosuba seems to be more of a fun show -_- | ||

Best Animes for 2016 Girls und Panzer der film - Technically a 2015 movie, but we didn't get a release until this year so hey. Some of the drama wasn't very good, but a solid 80% of the movie was tank battles, so whatever. It's exactly what I wanted from a GuP continuation - ridiculous fights, plenty of opportunties for the varied cast to shine, solid directing, and unusual attention to detail. The movie is a labor of love and it really shows. I think it's the only thing I watched multiple times this year. Haikyuu s3 - Tsukishima's arc is arguably the best part of the entire series thus far. Best Thing that Nobody Watched of 2016 Probably Natsume Go? The 4 (now 5) season backlog is pretty harsh. Otherwise, Rakugo. Most Surprising of 2016 Thunderbolt Fantasy - Nothing particularly groundbreaking, but it sure was entertaining. Even if it wasn't an anime. Bernard Jou Iwaku - I expected it to suck, but it was actually pretty good. Rakugo - Doing a full rakugo routine in ep 1 was pretty bold, but it almost made me drop the show due to how boring I found it. Fortunately, things picked up after that. Stockholm Syndrome Award for 2016 Rewrite - It's actually just bad, but it's Rewrite so I was compelled to watch it. Worst anime that I wasted time on in 2016 Mayoiga - It made no goddamn sense. I will say though, reading episode summaries and reactions was pretty amusing. Best Anime Season of 2016 Fall Worst Anime Season of 2016 Spring Most Disappointing of 2016 Yuri on Ice - They had a real opportunity to make something unique, and chose to pander instead. Can't really blame them I guess, considering the sales. Macross Delta - What happened? The start was so promising, and then the story went totally off the rails. Worst of all, the fights weren't even good. If nothing else, it gave me a greater appreciation for Frontier. Boku Dake ga Inai Machi - Seriously, what the fuck was that ending. Guilty Pleasure Brave Witches - Even though I think this show is terrible, I'm too deep into the franchise to stop now. 'Elem Award' for Most Overrated Anime of 2016 Everyone saying Re: Zero isn't a true elitist. It's gotta be + Show Spoiler + Kimi no na wa. People talk about this movie like it's the second coming of Christ. It's not bad by any means, but IMO it's average at best. I'm curious to see if people will hail this as a classic in a decade, like the better Ghibli movies. OP of 2016 As always, I like OPs that actually do stuff with their visuals. Boku Dake ga Inai Machi - Decent song and a good teaser of things to come. It was a good intro for the series. Drifters - Good artstyle and mood. It's not often that you get an English song either. My favorite song is probably Kuromukuro OP 1. I think it's the only song I didn't habitually skip this year. I also feel obligated to shoutout two seconds of breakdancing. I kinda wish Jojo went back to doing CG ops. They had some really good stuff in parts 1-3. ED of 2016 Yuri on Ice. Mostly because the ED sequences had stuff that was actually relevant to the story, and the presentation was unique too. It was pretty refreshing. Rakugo's ED was instrumental only, and I think it was period relevant as well. Mob Psycho 100 Best Scene of 2016 The final battle of the GuP movie. There's no dialogue or music in the opening three minutes. It heightens the tension of the scene, the sound effects are emphasized (and the sound effects are really good), and the focus is placed on the tactics unfolding in the battle. Every cut has a purpose and shows something meaningful. They also did a really good job of showcasing how in tune the sisters are. It's a great scene. The polka scene was also good (and maybe even more iconic), but I liked this fight better. Gundam Thunderbolt had some good stuff too. The guncam footage and beam saber through the wall come to mind. Makes me wonder how The Origin ever got greenlit in its current form. I liked this as well (Jojo spoilers). The music really makes this scene. It was pretty neat seeing her look 20 years younger with her hair down though. Kyouko from 3-gatsu is an excellent awful character. He didn't singlehandedly ruin the show, but he sure as hell didn't help. The MC from Fune wo Amu. He's definitely a big reason why I dropped the show. This guy just slaughtered half my people, but that's okay, I forgive him because he's conveniently my childhood friend. Everyone in Kabaneri was also terrible with the possible exception of the engineering crew. | ||
