+ Show Spoiler + So many people I've seen criticize it as being ridiculous, but ultimately, does it matter? How the letters got sent to the past is unimportant, any explanation would do, in my opinion

Maybe it's because there's much more to the story in the LNs but the direction started to feel extremely incoherent with the return by death mechanic still totally unexplained and the central princess selection plot being totally sidetracked and never resolved.

I liked the survival stuff in the first half way more than the romancey stuff in the second half (and this is coming from someone who's generally a sucker for romance), I'm giving it a 7/10 overall. Thats the nature of anime with LN source mate. The selection and the truth behind his return by death mechanic are likely going to be the meat of the story and thus if you want to find out you have to go buy the source. This anime...was only the beginning that introduces the world and teases the main plot. There was an interview with some of the ReZero staff posted on CR earlier that was interesting and there they say the anime wasn't even going to be 25 episodes at first.

At some point, you have to cut if off somewhere and there will be unanswered questions.

Sadly, it doesn't seem that anime series are their own drivers.

The author got lazy. I'd also be wary of any further seasons just because of how much they managed to fuck up s2. The LNs themselves were starting to drag too. I think there's an OVA coming out next season though.

Goddamnit. They ended the anime with a bit of a cliffhang too. An OVA would be nice, but... dammit.
