Even though I enjoyed Paprika a little more I think Perfect Blue was better done and a real gem from beginning to the end. Ended up giving Perfect Blue a 9/10 and Paprika an 8/10. Both are really unique and great movies though. Also, damn she was cute ![]() Alderamin + Show Spoiler + What really her death was surprising? She wasn't part of the main cast and was introduced to just be sympathetic of course she was going to die. I didn't take her death as "choices have consequences" more like it was a bad war to begin with and thankfully Ikta isn't too godlike that he can save everyone. I like the series enough to keep watching but am wary because Ikta's genius to me is more like Hyulek's from Tytania who is just inexplicably lucky and right than Yang Wen-li from LotG who was more believable and interesting. Ikta can calculate the amount of force needed to knock down a spider from a building and predict chess outcomes by not actually watching the match. His comrades are also extremely skilled so he needs to face just as skilled opponents or tough circumstances for it be interesting without going the MC is a god route.

I felt like Paprika had the more interesting setting but didn't quite explore it enough. Would have loved to watch a series about this. The characters were great though. Perfect Blue on the other hand featured the better written story. Both were excellently directed. Those blends and cuts were so perfect - doesn't matter if it was for story connections, surreal blurring or other weird shit. It hit the mark each time. I never felt lost but my brain was working at full speed to keep up with all the details and connections the viewer had to make. Kanna dying was fairly obvious, especially after she said "I guess I am more tough than I thought" at the beginning of the episode. Giving some backstory about a character to make people feel sympathy for it shortly before killing it off is not something new. In fact it often spoils what is going to happen next. Bad shows like Angel Beats! and Akame Ga Kill should be fairly well known for doing silly stuff like that. It always rings an alarm in my head whenever I see something like that happening. I also share your concerns about Ikta. He needs a strong opponent or it's going to be Arslan all over again. Unfortunately the show is only 1 cour as far as I know, I don't think that they will have the time to properly introduce a believable antagonist and also resolve the current story arc in only 5 episodes.

Which i prefer over having cgi everything for an asian-made show.

I agree it's a let down, also the novelty of the series has worn off for me so it just compounds the disappointment. Still worth the watch though.

I dunno, everything CGI besides the characters not only looks like complete garbage, but it also doesn't mesh and blend well, and ends up being jarring as hell. At least full CGI, even if it looks bad, looks like one cohesive product.

I think the pacing was the killer here. This arc deserved to have a 24 episode run, like the one before it, so it could have proper buildup scenes, and let each of the big moments, well, have their moment. At 12 episodes, it feels like every time something cool happens, the actors are being shooed offstage. It gets through to all the big stuff, but it's so rushed because it has to fit in half as many episodes.

If it was 24 episodes they would have to put in so much anime only filler you'd be complaining the reverse.

There's a lot of chapters and pages that have been removed in this adaption, they cut quite a bit for this second season to be quite honest. So i don't think it's completely fair to say that it's because the manga was rushed or light on actual content. I just wish it'd have been 11~13 episodes for the tournament and 4-6 for the arc that follows. Would've been ideal. Not that i think the second season has been awful, but it's been a worse adaption than season 1 was imho.
